At first, I hated this! The odor and flavor are not pleasant. I thought it was contaminated until I did some research and also spoke with an herbalist. The leaves of the plant are not as strong as this root. The root very effective, though, in helping me to sleep. Per the recommendation of the herbalist, I mix a small amount of this with a very pleasant-tasting and -smelling plant such as dried peppermint. Just use a VERY small amount of the valerian root.

A little more expensive than the Valerian root I was getting from a different company, but the taste is slightly better and it’s definitely more potent.

I brew this up almost nightly with a mix of lavender and wormwood.By itself the Valerian flavor is tolerable and kind of numbing.Valerian, in general, is not known for good taste.I enjoy a really relaxing state before bed and phenomenal dream sequences every time!

This Valerian leaf is finer than the chopped root. I brew an infusion of it. Take 4 cups of water, boil it, add 1/3 c. Valerian leaf. Boil for 2 minutes. Add a handful of mint leaves. Boil 1 minute more. Add 1/4 c. honey if desired.Strain through paper towels in a funnel into a pitcher. Warm and serve 1/2 cup. for relaxation. in daytime. Drink 1 cup 1/2 hr. before bedtime to get to sleep faster.

I have used Valerian root for many years to help with my insomnia. Sometimes when I have bought it, the product is old and has no fragrance and doesn't seem to work as well unless I make a strong tea. I can say that is not true for this tea. I opened the shipping envelope and the fragrance was very strong. Its a nice fragrance to me and definitely made me want to try it the same day. The tea worked like a charm for me. Smelled moldy, dry as a bone, hard as stone. Couldn't stomach it. I've had better valerian root
