Wegiel Handmade European Professional Tournament Chess Pieces With Wood Storage Case

I whated a chess piece set to better match the size board I had this was a great solution at a great price.

my wife, while garage sale shopping with her sister, came across a very old looking table that was extremely dusty. Always one for a bargain and since she loves to restore wood items, she picked it up for just a couple bucks. My first opinion when she brought it home was, "please don't bring it in the house", but a few days later, after she cleaned it up, she did and I realized it was a chess table. After she spent a few hours cleaning it up, it was actually in pretty good shape, even though it didn't really match our furniture, we parked it by the entry way of our house (inside, mind you). After seeing the table my boys (17,14) went to the closet and found there old plastic chess set pieces and started to play (on the new table). After seeing this go on for the next week, I decided to purchase a better set of wood pieces that would look a little nicer than the plastic pieces they were using. I came across this set, it looked really nice, the price was right so i purchased it. It came super quick, thanks amazon, and it goes absolutely perfect with the table.Its been a few months and although they don't play as much chess anymore, maybe only once a week, I never put the pieces away in the nice little wood box they came in, nor do I put them in the chess table drawer, I leave them out on the table, all set up, waiting for the next match.....(they have been dropped a few times, nothing broken off, and we have tile in the entry, the pieces have a really nice weight to them, not heavy but definitely not light like they were cheap or anything, have had no issues with the underside felt neither....the detail is very nice, i have never purchased a set like this before and I am very pleased with the quality..)

I bought the No. 5 set with the 3.5 inch king with a 1.25 inch base. I think this size works well with 1.75 to 2.0 inch board squares. The pieces looked very nice, were symetrical, and not warped, like you sometimes get with inexpensive sets. They are felted and lightly weighted which is also a feature you dont' always get. The storage box was well made, jointed, glued and stained, but not lined with felt. The pieces fit lying down but not standing up. I did put felt pads on the bottom to keep it from scratching the furniture. I think this is a good set or general practice and playing and so on.

I recently purchased the Staunton chess pieces from Amazon. I evaluated this set of pieces using the following criteria and ended up rating this product at a 4 out of 5. I judged the overall quality of the pieces, the storage container, and the accuracy to the photos on Amazon. I recently made my own chess board and was looking for a nice set of wooden pieces to accompany the handmade board. I had never purchased chess pieces online before, so I was nervous to see how they looked in person. I was initially impressed when I opened the box. The wooden pieces are hand carved in Poland and look great. The detail isn’t out of this world, but they do have a nice weight to them. The design is pretty typical for wooden chess pieces, but they do look nice. If you buy this product, you will appreciate the fact that the pieces look exactly like the photos on Amazon, and the color accuracy is also a nice surprise.This set comes with a wooden storage box to house the pieces when not being used. This is a nice addition, although the wooden partition that keeps the two colors of pieces separate was loose and does fall out easily. This can be easily fixed with a little hot glue, so this was not a huge problem. I was impressed by the quality of these pieces, but disappointed with the storage box. If you can overlook the loose partition, this is a great set of chess pieces, especially considering the price. At the time of purchase, the list price was about $50, and they were on sale for a little under $30. This still seems to be the case months later at the time of this review. That’s a great price for a set of wooden chess pieces of this size and quality.These chess pieces would be a fantastic gift idea for beginners and experts alike. Not only are they perfect for those that play regularly, but if you are looking for pieces that look great just sitting on a chess board then this is the set for you. It can be difficult to find a nice set of pieces for a decent price, but they managed to deliver on this one. I hope you like these pieces as much as I do.

Tough crowd around here, this is a $35 dollar chess set, not a $200 chess set. People are expecting way to much for a set at this price. It is a very nice "low priced" set. Pieces are uniform in appearance, solid wood with a decent finish, they feel good in the fingers and have a nice heft, though I would have liked a couple of grams more per piece. The carry case is plywood with an acceptable finish on the outside and no finish inside, for those that care, you could line it with felt for a few dollars. This set would be a bargain at twice the price.

This is the prettiest Chess pieces I have ever seen...if Chess pieces can be 'pretty'! The craftsmanship of this set is something I will be honored to leave to a family member whenever I can no longer pick up the pieces. From the simple carving of the pieces to the felt on the bottom of the wood, it is a beautiful set.It was not the most expensive set, by any means, but I don't think I could have found one that looks better than this set does.I am very happy with my purchase, and if I ever 'gift' a Chess set to anyone, I will buy a set just like this one.Thanks so much!

These are the chess pieces I should have bought years ago.

These are completely fine pieces. They aren't particularly heavy but they do have a nice wood smell to them. One of my white bishops came with the felt on the bottom already detached which was super disappointing but I guess I can glue it back on.Besides the defect I'm happy with my purchase.UPDATE: Seller sent me replacement white bishop very quickly. I am pleased with the good customer service. It bumped this up from 4 stars to 5 stars.Thank you, Seller! new piece received today :)
