Is there any stiff stabilizer piece to keep thumb from bending torque palm? Can the strap around thumb and wrist adjustable?

There is not a stiff stablilzer piece in the Xtend. The strap around the thumb and wrist are adjustable which in turn pulls the thumb from a bent to open position.

What are the measurements in inches in order to determine the size

The wrap around strap is approximately 9 inches. The loop fits over the lower thumb joint and the strap goes around the hand.

I had a stroke and have trouble opening my hand, could this help with keeping the thumb extended and opening and closing?

Yes the Xtend will help to keep your thumb extended although it does not assist with opening and closing. The Xtend is designed to keep the thumb in an upright position.
