Not bad pedal
I bought this after seeing one on youtube, unfortunately I didn't realise there were different versions of this pedal. It wasn't really what I was after so I returned it to Amazon. I like a Satriani type distortion sound with a close delay behind it. This distortion was a bit raw. Be good for some types of music 70s rock etc.

Does one thing, not very versatile
Didn't expect much, but seems like the knobs aren't even required as you can only get one sound out of it and it's not great. Also instructions show it takes a 9v but give me no indication how to open it. Guess you need a screwdriver.

Very good pedal for the price
Not a metal distortion if you're looking for chuggy metal sound, but a very very nice vintage-overdrive type of sound, very nice to play slightly driven (almost clean) tones. I use it in my setlist for Mr. Brightside for example. On higher gain, works a bit like a fuzz pedal. Anyway, it does the job I wanted it to do and I'm happy with it!

Raw? Fat? Scoop? What??
Raw = Tube Screamer style mid boost. Turn the gain down and the volume up. Surprisingly versatile.Fat = Flat EQ, uncoloured distortion.Scoop = The modern metal scoop sound. All the gain! Slayer!! \m/Excellent build quality. Seriously this pedal will outlast you, and possibly your kids kids too. Its a tank. You need a screwdriver to install a battery (9v square type) but that's not a big deal.

What a great pedal!
I love this pedal - for the money it does a really great job and you can get excellent tones out of it. I prefer the 'fat' setting - superb for metal, especially when complimented with an overdrive. I've got a dialed-down Boss SD-1 just before it, and it really fills out the tone. I run all of my pedals through the clean channel on a Laney Ironheart, and this pedal has now earned a place on my board. I have other 'higher end' distortion pedals (some are just over-rated due to their name IMO), but this is actually my current little favourite, I just find it really easy to dial in the tones I like. Others may disagree of course, because tone is so subjective, but if you are looking for a well made budget distortion pedal that does what it's supposed to then you can't really go wrong with this one. Good pinch harmonics and thrashy chugs can be obtained all day long here!! Happy shredding :-)

Quality at a very economical price for those who want to take the Left Hand Path
If you want that classic Swedish death metal buzzsaw guitar sound that Tomas Skogsberg produced at Sunlight Studios for bands like Entombed and Dismember then look no further. A boss HM2 pedal is the sort after item for achieving such classic sounds but this incredibly well built pedal from TC Electronics achieves exactly the same sonic range at a fraction of the price. Even my 15 watt Fender Blues Junior turns into a seething, snarling beast with this thing plugged into it! I’ve also used this pedal plugged into my favourite DAW through an audio interface and the sounds you can achieve are astounding! If you want a modern metal sound look elsewhere, if you’re after the classic old school Swedish death metal sound this is just the ticket. Highly recommended!

Well built, good tones
Nice pedal from TC. Not as insane as the TC Eyemaster [gives an Entombed Wolverine Blues type tone], but with three very usable tone variants [Raw, Fat & Scooped]. The scooped tone sounds a bit dated these days, but the Raw and Fat make up for that. Plenty of tonal range, good response from standard, down-tuned and baritone guitars. Really low tunings need the gain backed off a smidge or they get muddy. Also drives a pre-amp well too, when the gains backed right off. The soft switch foot switch works fine, and the thing is nice and solid. All in all a very good value unit.Annoyingly mine was a resealed return. Not bagged, no TC information sheet or warranty slip, and was covered in greasy fingerprints. Can't blame TC for this so the review stands, but Amazon shouldn't have sold this as new. It wasn't.

Worth every penny
Great distortion pedal. Very solid, not worried about stamping on it in the heat of the moment! Sounds comparable to a Rat that's twice the price. Awesome.
