Great Value for a Heavy Duty Disposal
I purchased the L-8000 as a replacement for an original equipment 1/3hp Insinkerator Badger 1, which began leaking after 11+ years on the job (actually, good longevity for a disposal). The L-8000 is more powerful and comes with a lifetime warranty. The discounted price I received was not much more than the cost of a replacement 1/3hp model from the discounted hardware/do-it-yourself national chains. A couple of notes on installation: 1. I highly recommend to not purchase the 3101 ISE Adapter Kit. You do not need this to install the L-8000. You will, however, need to remove the existing 3-bolt adapter from your sink if your current disposal uses the 3-bolt mounting system (and most likely does). Once you remove the old disposal and old adapter, you will be left with just the sink. I see no advantage to keeping the old adapter and using the Adapter Kit. The L-8000 installation instructions will allow you to attach the new disposal directly to the sink. 2. If you are replacing a smaller rated disposal (1/3hp, 1/2hp) with the L-8000, I recommend that you review the dimensioned drawing of the L-8000 prior to purchase to make sure you have enough room under the sink, including accounting for the existing plumbing. The L-8000 is physically larger. The dimensioned drawing is available on the WasteKing or Anaheim Manufacturing websites and will give you enough measurements to make this judgment. 3. Although the disposal discharge and dishwasher inlet ports on the L-8000 are at "standardaized" distances from the bottom of the sink, the additional width of the L-8000 will likely result in these plumbing attachment points being different from the previous disposal. In my case, I had to buy a slightly longer hose for the dishwasher connection. I was able to adjust the existing plumbing to line up with the L-8000 discharge port, but I did have to cut about 1" from the discharge tube supplied with the L-8000 to fit the existing plumbing. 4. The L-8000 comes pre-wired to plug into a standard electrical outlet, so you are already set if you have a standard receptacle under the sink. Otherwise, you will need to cut off the plug, strip the insulation, and directly connect the disposal wiring to your house wiring using wire nuts. 4. You will need plumbers putty. Pros: 1. Much quieter than the previous 11+ year old Badger 1 I owned. 2. Much more powerful - I can dispose items that I previously would not try with the Badger 1. 3. The L-8000 has a lifetime warranty, 4. The price through Amazon was fantastic and was little more than the replacement 1/3hp models available at the do-it-yourself stores. The only very minor negative I have noticed so far (I have been using the disposal for about 4 weeks) is the inital "pop" you hear when the power switch is first turned on. The "pop" is due to the engagement of the anti-jamming mechanism in the disposal. I have read other reviews that stated the "pop" gets quieter as the disposal is used more, but I have not noticed any noise reduction to date. However, the noise does not really bother me (just "different" than the previous disposal I had). Overall, I am very satisfied with the L-8000. I am pleased with the performance to date. Installation was fairly simple, with a few adjustments as I have already noted. I am not a plumber by any stretch. For undersink plumbing like mine, installation is most likely manageable for anyone that can use hand tools and has some experince with fixing small stuff around the house.

great replacement disposal, two years later it is still a wonderful disposal
7/6/15....Update...Two years later this disposal still works wonderfully. I did replace the little baffle in the sink drain, but that is a wear and tear item, and it was around $5. We will be building a new home soon. I will be putting one of these in it. I had the Badger 1/3 hp disposal. It came with our home when we bought it in 2010. the house was built in 2000. i think it is fair to assume the disposal was new in 2000. It did not really grind up very much but it was noisy. Last week it started to leak form the bottom as a 13 year old disposal may do. I read that I could repair the seal but it is not an overly simple task, and it is not all that cheap. Well I read some great reviews about the Waste king, SO I bought a new 8000 for my family. The install was quite simple for a moderately experienced DIYer. I had the old disposal out and the new on in in under 45 minutes. i was pleased and amazed as I read reviews saying this could take hours, and that professional plumbers had trouble installing it. If those are true, fire the plumber this was simple. Upon installation I noticed this thing is quite powerful, but it is much quieter than the out going 1/3 HP badger. The most notable things for installation. When un-installing the badger, there is a snap ring that holds the old drain in. Just loosen and remove the badger, by hammering the clip on the collar. then loosen the 3 bolts holding the collar tight. Then under the collar there is a snap ring. Some said to use a screw driver to remove it. I found it easier to grab it with channel locks and pull it off. After doing that the collar drops off and the drain lifts out. Then on re installation, note how the rubber collar is installed on the drain. Peel it off and slip the retaining clip off. Then place the drain in the sink hole as the directions instruct. Place the clip on then re-install the rubber collar on and lock it all together. It is really plug and play after than. This disposal is great so far. No need to register the unit for the lifetime warranty. Word to the wise write down the serial number prior to installation. it is difficult at best to do after installation, the SN is on the bottom of the unit.

Easy to install!
Let me start off by saying that I am not a handyman or plumber. About the extent of things I'm able to "build" are tables with step by step instructions from IKEA or mounting a TV mount to the wall. Other than that, i'm not very handy (my wife would say not at all handy). When my old garbage disposal started leaking, I called a plumber. He came to my house and told me I needed a new disposal. He told me the MINIMUM price would be $498 for the "bottom of the line" disposal, but it would "get the job done." I had already researched disposals and seen the Waste King on Amazon, so I asked him what they would charge for installation if I provided the disposal. He quoted me $250. Honestly, I considered it, but then (luckily) declined. Right after he left, I ordered the Waste King L-8000 on Amazon. I looked up installation and watched some installation videos specifically for this model. It didn't look too bad at all so I figured i'd give it a shot. My Waste King L-8000 came this morning. I completely removed my old disposal, which was not difficult at all. The only thing that kind of got me was dislodging the spring to disconnect from the sink. Probably took me 15 minutes (including walking my disposal out to the trash). After re-watching some installation videos and reading through the instruction booklet, I figured I was ready to install. Turns out, I got worked up over nothing. The installation of this disposal took me 10 minutes. I was shocked - I thought there'd be more to in. The EZ mount system is incredibly easy. I would be pissed if I had to pay someone else to install it. If you're thinking if hiring someone else to install this system with the EZ mount, I would save my money. Unless you're unable to lift the 14 pounds this disposal weighs or you just can't physically get on your hands and knees to install - do it yourself. I bet a professional plumber would be able to remove the old disposal and install the new one total in 15 minutes. WAIT A SECOND - that means if my plumber quoted me $250 to remove and install and it really did take him 15 minutes, i'd be paying him at a rate of $1,000 an hour. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! Save your money and install it yourself. As far as the disposal goes, I've only had it installed for about 8 hours now and so far I love it. It's much quieter than my old disposal and although bulkier, it's much more powerful. I tested some food and waste products on it and it handled it all with no problems. The one thing I did miss, however, is the connection to the dishwasher. The disposal comes with a little cap over the part where you connect your dishwasher hose. You can't see it, but it's inside. There are specific directions which I overlooked that tell you to knock out the cap with a dowel or metal rod. I didn't do this, even though I connected my dishwasher hose. I ran a load of dishes this afternoon and when the load finished, I opened it up and noticed a pool of water at the bottom of my dishwasher. After re-reading the instructions, I then saw that I needed to knock out the cap for the dishwasher to drain properly. Once you knock out the cap, it stays in the disposal until you remove it. It's really annoying and the instructions say that you can leave it and it will be ground up after several uses. It was too annoying for me, so I used a pair of tongs to remove - simple. I would highly recommend this disposal not only because it is a fine piece of machinery, but also because it is very straightforward and easy to install!

Best Value, and truly "EZ" installation as advertised
I just received this product yesterday and installed it myself today. Obviously, I have only used it a couple of times so far and I am very pleased with the extremely easy installation (necessary, for I am not that handy, especially with plumbing). The unit is working perfectly so far. It has a lifetime warranty, unlike competitors 3-7 year warranties; however, if I ever need service it appears I have to return the unit with receipt to Amazon...so we will hope for a long, long life of use. The instructions profess grinding many things (bones, etc.) that I would never put down a disposal, so I will be anxious to see how it performs on Thanksgiving when my wife continues the tradition to ignore my warnings and put 10 pounds of potato peelings down the disposal at once. After reading numerous reviews of continuous feed disposals and watching other comparisons on YouTube (http://youtu.be/BX57lMiFGuo), the Waste King L-8000 1.0-Horsepower was a clear winner for me in choosing to replace our Kenmore, which barely outlived the warranty. I was not familiar with Waste King, and was leaning toward a comparable InSinkErator -- Ah, but when comparing price, quality, warranty and more, there really isn't a comparable InSinkErator, so I ordered the L-8000. (The InSinkErator has a single advantage: a metal drain flange compared to the plastic flange on the Waste King. Hardly a deal-breaker, but the reason I gave a 4-star rating, instead of 5 stars, to the L-8000). The EZ Mount system works as advertised. You may read some reviews about a rubber ring that creates difficulty in installation, but Waste King has responded with double emphasis on how to complete the install easily and without incident. Just in case, here is a very helpful video walking you through the installation (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfDABrRLcjk). The only tools I used for installation were flat and Phillips screwdrivers, plumbers putty, and a steel punch, although the instructions say you might need more. I also used a bowl to prop up the unit, freeing both my hands while I hooked it up. This is a good idea. I was able to use my existing dishwasher hose and coupling, so I did not need to replace the connector kit. The L-8000 comes with a cord already wired and ready to plug in after installation, so no electrical skills are needed, thank goodness. Another nice featured compared to other brands is the removable and, therefore, replaceable splash guard (you know, that rubber guard that slightly reduces something going down the drain that should not). The L-8000 is big and will take up a bit more valuable space under your sink than smaller brands. However, that is because it has more insulation so it may be quieter than others. It is at least quieter than our old Kenmore, and the price was impossible to beat for such a powerful unit (7 amp, 1.0 HP, 2800 RPM). Again, my rating and review are based on the easy installation and overall quality of a brand new unit. Perhaps I'll come back and add some more after those Thanksgiving potatoes!

Nice Unit. Very Easy to Install (if you have the space)
First comment (and this does not affect my rating of the actual product) - I ordered a new one of these and the product I received was clearly used, damaged, and missing parts. That was disappointing. Amazon was great about quickly resolving the problem through the simple return/exchange process, but it was an unnecessary frustration. I had the replacement within 5 days of filing the claim online. Now the review: First Impression - I installed the disposal this past weekend and so far it seems to work great. I originally looked at this unit after reading the high rating by consumer reports... and the user reviews seemed to back that up. Noise - It is much quieter than I expected, but it is still a high power garbage disposal so it is obviously going to make some noise (plus noise is going to depend on what you jam into it - and it can handle a lot!). For comparison sake, I replaced a 1/2 hp disposal with this 1hp disposal, and the 1hp disposal is significantly quieter when not grinding. That being said, I much less concerned running it when kids are sleeping. Quality & value - The build quality seems very good, and the solid warranty is a nice perk (although very unlikely it would ever get used vs just replacing the unit one day). The price was also very reasonable. Installation - Wow. Super easy to install. You truly could have this thing installed within 5-10minutes after removing your existing disposal. It could be a 15min job in total. If you need to hardwire the unit, it is very easy, although I found pulling the factory cord off to be more challenging than it should be (my unit used a rubber fitting to hold the cord in place versus a clamp - easy enough to deal with, but could have been easier). It is definitely worth noting that this unit is large. So if you are replacing a smaller disposal, you should check your under-sink plumbing configuration to determine if it will fit. In my case, I had to redo some of the pipe configurations under the sink (if the builder laid it out better, this wouldn't have been an issue). If you are not handy with plumbing, you will want to check this before buying, or plan on using a plumber. If it will fit, anyone could install this unit. So far, so good. I would recommend this product.

Powerful, Quiet!
Received the product a day earlier than the tracking information indicated - sturdily packed and all accessories and fittings were present in what appeared to be a new and unopened product package. This unit was replacing an ISE Badger 5 Plus that lasted less than 5 years. The Badger 5 had replaced a typical tract home original construction ISE unit that had worked for nearly 20 years but finally cracked the grinding chamber walls and began leaking. The Badger 5, although more expensive than the basic unit I could have purchased as a replacement, was supposed to be quieter and more powerful. Well it lasted barely 5 years before it began leaking internally down through the motor assembly and down the electric wiring onto the wood shelf under my sink. I was not particularly happy with the Badger 5 failing so soon. The new Waste King unit came with relatively clear instructions and had a quick mount system that was similar to the ISE Badger it was replacing - but not identical so I did have to remove the ISE sink drain assembly and replace it with the Waste King quick mount assembly. One observation I'd have to make is that the Waste King quick mount system seems slightly less substantial than the ISE Quick mount system and was a little harder to properly align when installing the disposal - the manual recommended you practice the install with the unit out of the sink first to get a feel for how the parts need to align. That was good advice - it was still a little tricky to get the locking collar properly aligned with the pins on the disposal but otherwise went smoothly. It took a full hour to get everything in but I did take about 10 minutes after installing the sink drain to let the silicone sealer I used set up - I used the time to study the quick mount system as recommended in the manual. I was installing it in a Corian countertop built-in sink and the fittings all mated perfectly with no leaks. I do recommend using a little lube on the mating surfaces of the disposer and the drain seal since you will likely have to do a little rotating to align the disposer with the pipe to your main drain - and when you start tightening the locking ring without lubing the mating surface it will try to twist the sink drain unless lubed. This is mentioned in the instructions as well. I noted that the Waste King, like nearly everything else these days, is manufactured in China. I didn't have the original box for the Badger 5 and could not find a clear statement about where the Badger 5 was made other than the address of Emerson Electric Company in Wisconsin. Overall, I really like the new Waste King unit - it's about as silent as anything with a 1 HP electric motor can be! Compared to the ISE it was almost night and day - Very quiet in general not just comparatively, almost inaudible from 15 feet away unless it was grinding something hard - then you'd hear a small amount of noise - but almost no noise while grinding the usual soft food items like fruit peels or egg shells. But the real test here is going to be how long it lasts. As sold by Amazon this unit is about $20 more expensive than the ISE, GE, and Whirlpool units sold by the big box home improvement stores that are roughly comparable - I say roughly because this unit has a 1 HP motor where the competing units at the big box stores were mostly 1/2 HP or 3/4 HP. I haven't used the Waste King long enough to have tested for any power difference but it definitely creates a sound of quiet power compared to the unit it replaced. But it comes down to durability - will this outlast the Badger 5 it replaced and reach the lifetime of the original unit that came with the house? Only time will tell. If any issues develop then I'll update this review - but for now I can say the Waste King does seem to warrant the positive reviews it's been getting - it is powerful and it is quiet - and it's fairly easy to install. And I'm hoping it's going to last as well!

Works great, easy to install, decently quiet
I purchased this unit to replace our broken down GE 1/3hp unit which rusted out and started grinding up pieces of itself that were disintegrating. We really probably didn't need a full 1hp disposer, but for such a great price, I figured why not...and I'm hoping I'll never have to replace it again. Installation was fairly simple and took me about 2 hours, including installing a plug/outlet box where there used to be just flexible conduit tied directly into the old unit. NOTE: It DOES come with a stopper and splash guard! The listing wasn't very clear and it was included in the "often purchased together" section, so I bought a separate one too...oh well, I guess I have a spare now. I completely removed all of the mounting hardware from the old unit, leaving just the cutout hole in my stainless steel sink and then used all of the included parts of the ez-mount system. The plumbing fit perfectly after following the directions and cutting a little bit off the included plastic elbow. I ran some water and had no leaks on the first try! I was originally going to connect the wire/flex conduit directly to the unit like my previous one was installed, but I opened up the bottom cover to do so and saw that the cord/plug was crimped on to the units wires so I would have to cut them, the strain relief bracket and ground wire screws were recessed and there was very little space inside it to work. So I decided it would be much quicker and easier to install an outlet box on the existing conduit/wiring. This also will give me the option of easily disconnecting it in the future if needed for safety. Fired it up and was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was. The old unit made a racket and vibrated the counter...even years ago before it was rusted and broken...we just got used to it. The new Waste King unit isn't the quietest disposer I've ever heard, but it's close and certainly quiet enough for me. A big improvement over our previous one. Also because it's more powerful and spins faster, it needs to be run for less time, which should help it's longevity. Overall, I'm very pleased and would recommend to anyone.

Easy Peasy
2 days ago, before headed out for a family outing, my wife opened the cabinet door under our kitchen sink to find the whole deck saturated with water. After examination, it was found that our 12 year old Emerson garbage disposal had sprung a leak at the reset button mounting at the bottom. What a disaster! Luckily it was caught early, bought now I had decisions to make and a problem to solve. Later that day, while benched at an out-of-town mall, I pulled out my smart phone to browse my Amazon wish list. To my surprise, this Waste King model was a featured gold box deal on my wish list products page. Based on the reviews and lifetime in-home warranty I immediately ordered it. This unit has a power cord vs. my Emerson being hard-wired. Yesterday, I went to Lowes and bought plumbers putty and the materials to install a surface mount electrical outlet box under the sink. Got home and disconnected the hard-wired power from the faulty Emerson disposal and ran that power into the outlet box which I securely surface mounted to the upper back wall under the sink. It took me about 30 minutes. I had that part done before the Waste King arrived today. I am not the best self-installer when it comes to DIY jobs. Do you know the father in the "A Christmas Story" movie working on the furnace? That is me to a T. Any easy DIY job becomes a tormentous affair for me. Evacuate the house before I start a DIY job. Just thinking about doing the job myself has ruined these past two days because I know something is going to go wrong. Fortunately my worries were baseless. The Waste King arrived this afternoon. The first part was removing the Emerson disposal, which came out in 5 minutes, easy peasy ... the flange and all (I had watched about 20 youtube videos regarding disposal removal/installation prior). Cleaned the old putty from around the stainless steel sink drain opening. Come to find I didn't need the plumbers putty bought at Lowes the day before. The Waste King comes with a rubber gasket just for stainless steel sinks ... no putty necessary. Checked the rubber seal for leaks before mounting the disposal (just put in the drain plug and add water to the sink). No leaks! Then installed the Waste King using only the parts included in less than an hour. No cussing, nor throwing things. I did have to hack saw about 1/2 of an inch off the Waste King's drain pipe to feed it into my existing tee fitting from the other drain. The tee fitting then feeds straight down to the trap. Plugged it into the new outlet box, flipped the switch and she started right up. I'd say it is no quieter nor louder than the Emerson. The sound is a lower hum tonally. Ran water in both drains for a while with no leaks found. I put a large roasting pan lined with paper towels under the disposal and drain pipes and will monitor it for leaks over the next few days, but all looks well. Still have to check the dishwasher connection for leaks, but expect no problems with it. Will check that tonight. Very happy with my Waste King purchase ... quality, easy installation and, of course, Amazon's gold box price and fast 2 day prime shipping. Now I can relax again.

Product Unsuitable for Use in India
The product stopped functioning after just 2–3 uses. I contacted the seller through the Amazon app, and their response was that they are only responsible for selling the product and do not provide any service. A local technician examined the item and informed me that it is not compatible with the power supply standards in India.

Second hand product?
The box already gave it away, it looked old and as if it had been opened before, looking inside the disposal confirmed the suspicion, the disposal had been used, there was food inside. Hope it was only for testing, could have been in use for a year also, who knows....

i command you to buy this awesome unit
this is a really good unit. it's quiet, powerful and installs easily. a word of advice: measure your existing hoses, attachments, diameters, lengths etc so you can purchase what you need before the item arrives. in our case, it turned out we needed to buy a universal dishwasher connector and a 5/8" barb (aka nipple) to attach the existing dishwasher hose to the disposal. the rep at HD mistakenly directed me to various other stores, not knowing they HAD the right pieces in stock all along (which was WACK). i was less than pleased heading back to pick up the pieces the rep should have directed me to the first time around grrrr but thats what you get at HD...heartbreak and broken promises lol anywho...once we had the right hardware on hand, the install itself took about 30min, even though i had to cut a bunch of existing piping..it's a pretty simple install, just do your homework up front. the unit also gives you some bragging rights once you finish the install cuz it looks that damn good. see the before/after pics for reference. so just buy it....i command you

Very Good Product and Some Advice
I purchased this garburator to replace an older batch disposal unit that quit working. The reviews and good price were the enticements to buy this model, and I was already familiar with the Waste King brand name. The first unit came with a broken mounting nub that wasn’t noticeable until I tried to mount it on the sink ring. I requested a replacement from Amazon, which was a quick and easy process, other than the obvious minor hassle of repacking and shipping the first one back. Not having the use of the second sink compartment was somewhat more frustrating, because it took 5 days to get the replacement. I’m not sure why, as I am a Prime subscriber… so the 2-day shipping from Amazon doesn’t really mean 2 days anymore. Anyway, that’s an Amazon issue, not a product problem. It took me about 45 minutes to unpack and install the new garburator, since the old one was already out at this time. The existing plumbing and drain trap fit with no problem to the new unit. I checked for connection leaks and turned on the switch and it worked as expected. I have a very happy wife again. The first test run on a batch of vegetable peels went through as was expected, so this is obviously not a review of ongoing durability. I don’t expect any problems though. I have one suggestion to buyers though. The installation instructions tell you to use a hammer to tighten the mounting ring. As a retired contractor (not a plumber) I would never do that. Take 2 screwdrivers and clip them behind the two mounting ring ears (like a snipe or breaker bar) and firm pressure easily locks the ring in place, without any pounding necessary.
