Well made toy with variety of ways to play
One of my twins (2y9m) was in speech therapy for a while and her therapist had a small peg board that my daughter loved to play with. We wanted to get something similar for Christmas when we happened upon this one on Amazon. It's way bigger than we had in mind, but it looked pretty neat. The girls really like it and their older brother (7) even likes to play with it with them. The pegs are very sturdy and a good size for little hands. The bottom mat is nice and thick. The other mats are thinner but yes it is because otherwise you couldn't fit the pegs through them as you stacked up. It's a design feature, not a money saving tactic. We'll see how well they hold up over time but so far they seem sturdy enough. This is a great toy to let your kids play with on their own, or a great way to go over shapes, colors, numbers, concepts such as big or small (shapes), short or tall (stacks)... For older kids it's a nice way to set out some grids and visually show multiplication - ie when the grid is full it's 10X10 or 100 - my son likes to help my hunt all the pegs and fill the grid to make sure we have them all. You could also show 2X10, 3X5, etc etc etc to show how multiplication works. (I don't know that I'd buy it FOR an older child but if you have bigs and littles it's nice to find toys that can be used across the span, or ways to make more use of what you have with all the kids!) So much to do with this one little set!

Use changes as it grows with your child
A place for soldiers to guard and a base for super heroes are just some of the structures my 6 year old grandson builds with this peg set. When I tell my grandkids it is building time, they sometimes choose this toy as an alternative to Lincoln Logs, Magnaforms and Brain Flakes. I bought this when my grandkids were 3 and 4. They loved it then and preferred building tall towers. The platforms can be a little tricky for younger children to determine how many pegs to put where to keep it level so you can build another platform. However, that is just another opportunity for children to experiment and problem solve. After having this stored away for a year, it is like a new toy and it is interesting to watch how they use it differently. My 7 year old granddaughter doesn't play with it as long but enjoys making patterns with the colors and keeping the platforms straight and balanced. My 6 year old grandson just likes to build away and get some guys out. I think this peg set allows children with different interests and skill levels to play successfully with a feeling of accomplishment. A great toy that grows with your child.

fun toy
Lauri Tall-Stackers - Pegs Building Set is a great toy that keeps kids busy for hours on end. They enjoy playing with these pegs. The colors are fun looking and invite them to play. This toy is for ages 1 to 9. The youngest children can simply stick the pegs into a pegboard, and older children can build castles and whatever else they want. This is the perfect toy to keep your children entertained. These are very durable. The pegs that I have have been thrown around and played with tons, but none of them has broken. I have had these for years. The pegboard and other building pieces, which are really thin, never tore. Not any of them. They feel like they would tear somewhat easily, but they didn't tear for me.This is the perfect toy to entertain your bored children.I highly recommend this toy.

Different and fun
My 5 year old grandson loves constructing things and sometimes gets very elaborate with his construction. This kept him busy for hours, I believe mostly because it was different from most building sets. The pieces fit together with ease, and I was surprised at the various configurations he built as well as how easily his creations integrated into other building set configurations. I gave it four stars vs five only because there are not many flat pieces included in the set and because the material from which the flat pieces are made has a bad chemical smell. Overall, I was very pleased and it was a great value purchased through my STEM subscription.

only base is sturdy
The shaped pieces are so thin, too flimsy to hold up pegs, not the stacking possibilities I was hoping for.

Tons of Pieces. Tons of fun.
This set is huge. We have had the Shapes set and my 3 year old loves to stack the pegs and match the colors on the shapes. This provides a ton of new stacking options. My 7 year old has created "space ships", hats, etc with this set. The kids enjoy seeing how tall a tower can be made. It's difficult to stack tons up high without the stacker boards, so this set provides a new level of play. The bottom 100 peg board is the regular thickness and the rest of them are the thinner mats so that pegs can go through them into the next peg. I really don't understand the reviews disliking that since it's the point of this set. All of them are sturdy rubber and I don't see them getting torn or broken.I really like that I can use the 100 peg board to work out math problems with my 7 year old. We can use the pegs to create patterns and work on counting and color recognition. Lots of education possibilities. There is 20 of each of five color pegs.

My 13 yr old tried to sneak this away from his 5 yr old sister...
I had originally purchased this set for my 5 year old daughter. I'm not only a homeschooling mother of eight but I also have dual degree in elementary and special ed. I thought this would be ideal for my 5 year old and kicked myself for not finding this years ago for my older kids. Instead, when the box came, it was my 13 yr old who snuck this away to play with and only when his little sister happened to walk by and see it and she shrieked, "That's MY toy!" did he give it up.My husband has also been caught playing with this too. It is alot of fun and very creative. Our family has spent hours playing with this. The quality of the pegs are excellent and their large size fit nicely into any hand size. The large foam pegboard that makes the base is thick and sturdy. The pegboards that make the building platforms are very thin but sturdy during regular use.Overall, we are thrilled with this new "electronically free" toy :)
