Worth every penny
My LG front-load washer (model WM2205CW) was leaking water, and I decided to try to fix it myself. I saw in YouTube videos that some "$60 tool" was needed to remove and reinsert the spring-loaded metal hoop that holds the door gasket in place. Then I saw in the comments below the video that some guy said you don't need the tool, just use zip ties around the ends of the spring. I used some nylon twine instead, and yes, I was able to get the hoop removed without much trouble. I proceeded to diagnose and fix the leak (drainage hose had a hole in it). Then it comes time to put that hoop back in. Well, let me tell you, with twine or zip ties, it's IMPOSSIBLE, even with two people. Maybe if you have six arms and the strength of a gorilla you can do it. No matter how hard I pulled the spring apart, wearing leather gloves to keep the twine from biting into my hands, I just could not get it to expand enough to fit the hoop all the way around the gasket. So with a heavy heart I decided it's still cheaper to spend $60 than to call the repairman, and onto Amazon I go. I was encouraged to find this tool, which was so much cheaper than I expected, so I ordered it. I just received the spreader tool today and WOW, it works great! I was able to slip it into the loops that hold the ends of the spring (not the spring itself as someone asked in one of the Q&A's here), squeeze firmly, and that thing spread apart wide enough so that the hoop easily fit all the way around the gasket. I didn't even need anyone helping me. I did it myself on the first try in about 20 seconds. So even if you only need to fix your washing machine one time, do yourself a favor and get this thing. It's worth every penny. I'm glad I have it on hand in case I ever need to fix my washing machine again.

Save a bunch over LG original tool
It works as advertised. I used it to remove and re-attach the tension spring on my dishwasher within a minute. Without this tool, I would have to use some help from another person or some other contraption to do the job. The quality of the tool seems to be on par with the original but at significant savings. The original tool is priced ridiculously high and it isn't justifiable for DIY projects.

Great tool that makes a potentially frustrating installation super easy!
The tool make a frustrating job for one person super easy. The installation of the outer retaining ring for my LG washer door boot took less that 30 seconds to complete with this tool. I have done a half dozen of these in the past without the tool and decided to invest in this specialized tool and wish I had done it earlier. I ordered the tool on Amazon and it showed up two days later which was a day earlier that promised. Well worth the investment. I highly recommended this tool to others.

Good tool
I wouldn’t have been able to remove/re-install the rings without this tool. My only complaint is I found them to be just a bit too small when opening the springs..could have just a tad bigger.

Lifesaver
The tool we got opens to 5". It opened wide enough for re-attaching the boot on our LG WM2277HW front load clothes washer. The tool is sturdy and well-made. It also came with an extra replacement spring for the wire hoop, which we saved for later. We had already taken the boot ring off before we ordered the tool. Getting the ring off wasn't so hard, but I think getting the ring installed without a tool like this would have been almost impossible. My wife and I weren't constrained at all by the 5" opening when using it on this washing machine (which is quite large). Getting the boot ring installed was still a two person job, but this tool took all the pain and sweat out of the operation. We needed to change the drain pump in the washer. I was so glad I ordered this tool with the drain pump, both of which miraculously arrived the next day. Cheers for Amazon Prime!

Here’s how I got this to work on an inner spring
As a lot of people have pointed out, this tool does not stretch the inner spring far enough to hook it if you have the metal clamp already wrapped around the gasket/drum. I suspect this tool is more built for the outer spring clamp than the inner one - the outer spring is easier to stretch. BUT - I was able to use this tool to get the inner spring on by hooking the spring together BEFORE I stretched it around the gasket and then using the tool to stretch the hooked-together ring a little bit as I worked the clamp onto the drum. IE, don’t try to hook the spring when the clamp is already in place - hook it before you put it in place and then stretch the whole thing around the drum.

Doesn’t open wide enough. Get the real tool. Don’t waste your money
Does not work. It’s advertised to be the same as the LG tool. This tool only opens to 4 inches and the spring needs to open a little further than 5 inches. This is advertised as an upgraded tool. I’m not sure what that means. It’s cheaply made and doesn’t work. One would assume if you upgraded it, you would make it work.My initial reaction was to return it, but I was stuck with my washing machine in pieces and I could not wait 5 days for the correct tool.I had to take a torch to the arms and bend them so they opened further. The problem is now they are too short and the teeth are in the wrong position. So even then it was a nightmare to get it to worksDon’t waste your money. Get something else

If you need one of these, you need it badly
The door seal on my washer came loose and I needed to stretch the spring to re-seat the seal. I tried for over an hour with just pliers and screwdrivers, but without 3 or 4 hands it's almost impossible to do without the correct tool so I couldn't get the seal put back in. This spring expansion tool was perfect, got the job done in about 2 minutes. I'm going to store this with the washing machine not in my toolbox, just to make sure it's there if I ever need to replace or re-seat that seal again.
