i am updating my DIY books from the older ones that i had, i love these books because they are in such detail in what they tell you to do, and have pictures instead of drawings. i have updated the entire seried of these books and took the rest to charity. great books...

The book is interesting as it lets you dream about what styles and options or garages are possible. I built a 16x24 6 or 7 years ago with the help of my son and this book reminded me of the things I have forgotten about the building process. I was going to have a contractor build my garage, after buying this book, I think I will subcontract the cement work and I will do the framing and let someone else do the rafters and roofs. The book has enough detail to permit a person to do the whole thing, but sometimes it is better to know your personal limitations.The book has links to purchasing plans for the various garages pictured in the book. The plans are outrageously priced. I saw a couple plans I would have purchased, but when I saw the price tag, I backed off, bought graph paper and am doing my own plans.The book did present some interesting storage ideas which I will incorporate into my building.I decided that I wanted swing out, carriage doors, for the garage door(s) and it has been a struggle to find step by step instructions to build your own carriage doors. This would be a welcome edition for the next edition of the book.

A lot of useful information along with clear images that provide many ideas for both designing and building a new garage. Even has great ideas for just redecorating or organizing your current garage.

Very comprehensive guide --- step by step walkthrough for the beginner.

Will help you in building a garage or out building, especially if you haven't had very much experience. Worth the price. If you have built storage buildings or garages before, might not help all that much.

Mostly about building the structure, very little beyond that.Not useful for setting up or organizing and existing garage / workshop.

I love this book, it has garage plans in it! I gave it to my father in law for Christmas in the hope that he would get the hint and finally build a fricking garage at his home, like he has been saying he would for the last 4 years. Why the concern about this you ask?? Well, the in laws bought a stupid Corvette 4 years ago and asked my husband if they could park it in the garage until they built one. So he, being the soft hearted, often manipulated by narcissistic parents son, agreed. Well it's been 4 years and the only thing that has been done is late last summer father in law got a concrete pad poured. Oh, joy! I mean it must be so hard to build a garage in the 4-5 months of warm weather we have here in Canada to organize getting a garage built. I mean how would we ever manage our month long holidays to the lake and additional 6 week vacations to various places if we had to be bothered with building a silly garage?? Never mind that the stupid Vette we bought that we rarely drive anymore sits in our son and daughter in laws garage in the winter and takes up valuable parking and storage space. Why would we build a garage?? Well now they have a book of plans, no more excuses! Though I do expect more procrastination (read cheapness), as he did comment that wow! now I might have to revamp some of my plans now that I have this book! Like he had any in the first place. If he actually uses one of these I will come back and update my review.

Wonderful book, tells how to design and build your own garage or how to baffle tradesmen with your intimate knowledge. Although an American book, I found it refreshing, when he refers to dimensions in good old feet and inches, much simpler for me to understand than the dreaded Metric, only thing a bit confusing was the American nail sizing. He goes on to cover lighting, storage, floor covering, electrically operated doors etc. If you want your dream garage start with this book, I cannot recommend it too highly.

It's good for a small garage. If you're wanting to build a large one (I built a 25'x30') you can use this book as a reference. How they teach you to build the slab is a joke. I wish it was that easy-flat level ground-no need for lasers-etc., but gives you a good idea. The framing explanations is good enough for code just for a garage as long as you get your trusses engineered for anything bigger than a 14x18 in my opinion.In all honesty if this book was called "Large Sheds" it would be an absolute perfect book.

Kindle edition on plans not so good as even when you enlarge you still cannot make the writing or numbers out. Kindle needs to address this. Overall though a good book.
