Texas Instruments TI-36X Pro Engineering/Scientific Calculator | 9.7 Inch | Black.

I bought this calculator when my old machine shop calculator died from being dropped too many times. There are a few things to note about this calculator for this type of calculation. And since I'm a retired mathematics teacher, I know a thing or two about calculators in education. First, this seems like a great choice for use in a machine shop. I need a high quality and durable calculator with trigonometric functions. This calculator is all that and more. The multi-line display is also convenient for seeing a record of previous keystrokes. Its quite a bit lighter than the old graphing calculator I was using, and I'm hoping that will make it more durable--lighter objects hit the floor with less force than heavier ones. This calculator has enough capability for educational use IF you don't need (or are not allowed to use) graphing or computer algebra functions. It is not a graphing calculator. And it won't do computer algebra operations such as solving equations, computing derivatives, etc. It's probably not the best choice for linear algebra (matrices, vectors, ...) or for advanced statistics. But it does have all the numerical functions you would expect to find in a classic scientific calculator. Last note is that this calculator has a snap-on lid instead of the old slide-on style I'm accustomed to (like on the TI-84). It's too early to say whether I like it more or less. Its definitely faster: just clip it on or off. But will it hang-on or survive as well as the old slide-on style if you occasionally drop it on a concrete floor?

I love this calculator!!! I've had it since Sept/2011. Before this calculator I had the TI-89 and loved how it could do anything I could want it to do. With knowing that I would be unable to use this calculator on the FE, I decided to buy one that they would allow so I would be use to it before the exam. I originally took the advice of a friend and went with a the Casio 115es. Being that I have had Ti products my whole life this was a huge learning curve. The calculator was nice but was not that user friendly! (almost felt like I needed a minor in programming to work it!) I was told that it would solve for variables but never could actually learn how to get it to do it. One day a friend in class showed me his Ti-36x pro and I was amazed at how easy it was to use! It did alot more then the Casio and was almost like having my Ti-89 back!! To be honest its easier then the 89 to operate and still solves for variables (along with alot of the other same functions). I have showed mine to my fellow classmates and they also fell in love with it. They always end up having me order them one. So far I have ordered 15 of these calculators and have not had one complaint out of any of them. I have tried almost all calculators allowed on the FE and this one is far ahead of the pack!!! Some Pros: The Biggest Pro is: Its pretty user friendly after you get sometime on it The ability to scroll through old computations See math expressions, symbols and stacked fractions exactly the way they appear in textbooks. Has nine physical constants programmed into it (like:Gravity, Speed of Light, Avogadro's number, Ideal Gas Constant..) Has 18 Metric/English conversions Does integration and derivatives Gives you answers in decimals by default (unlike the Casio) but will convert to fractions If you turn it off and back on it still has your old calculations! (the Casio erases when it turns off!) If you are a TI user, you can easily adapt to this calculator. For the price you can't beat it!! I noticed one person gave it 2 stars. Let me just say, out of the 15 I've ordered for people, I have yet to have one complaint!!! Cons NONE!!! If you are not allow to use a graphing calculator in your classes or you will be taking the FE one day, I recommend this calculator. It blows any other Scientific Calculator out the water!!!

The absolute best choice of calculator for an engineering student. It is highly intuitive and doesnt' require referencing a manual four hours to figure everything out. All of the main functionlity is right there on the front in easy to locate buttons, and the menus are easy to navigate. FE Exam approved calculator with lots of memory for referencing prior calculations. Highly recommend!

What an improvement over my old TI scientific calculator I've been using since the 90s. All of the functions on this unit are intuitive and it's easy to navigate through all the menus. Remember the math key, it is your friend! There's a lot of sub menus that contain more functions than what are printed on the face of the calculator. This is a great calculator for electrical engineering and for general calculus. It will be seeing a lot of use in my electronics lab!

TI-36X Pro calculator (A non-graphing scientific calculator) I originally reviewed a TI-30XS Multi-View and a Casio FX-115ES when I took the Professional Engineer exam because they were the only ones available at the time that I could use without too much difficulty. I took 3-4 months before the exam to familiarize myself with the calculator before I took the actual exam. I felt the Casio FX-115ES was far superior, although the TI-30XS MV had a much cleaner interface and a sensible layout. But the FX-115ES was very easy to use once you got used to the menu/layout as Casio hasn't changed its scientific calculators very much over the years. Many of the features I favored in the FX-115ES were not available in the TI-30XS MV such as complex numbers and handling matrices, and even working with different base numbers. The TI-36X Pro seems to have resolved many, if not all, of the TI-30XS MV shortcomings. Had the 36X Pro been available in late 2008, I would have most likely used it for the exam along with my FX-115ES as a backup calculator. The 36X Pro interface/layout is similar to the TI-30XS MV which makes it easy to use. The answers default in approximations (decimals) versus exact numbers (fractions) with the FX-115ES. This makes it easier for engineers since I always had to press the convert key on the FX-115ES. The TI-36X Pro treats complex numbers the same way as the FX-115ES, just make sure to set it in the Complex mode for polar or rectangular values. I still prefer the TI-89's treatment of complex numbers without having to deal with different modes (square root of -1 = i without going to any different modes), but it isn't too hard to change a few settings in the 36X Pro and it even has a key for i albeit it is a multi-tap key, but it works in the REAL mode. Different number bases with the 36XP Pro require navigating more menu layers versus the FX-115ES. With the Casio, you could directly switch between DEC, HEX, BIN, etc... whereas the TI 36X Pro requires you to convert the values. Again, this isn't a big deal it is just a matter of a few extra seconds of time. The TI 36X Pro has a better menu, but the FX-115ES is more direct. I guess that is probably a Japanese trait as well! The TI-36X Pro has lots of conversions and constants, and they are actually described in the menu which makes it very easy to use versus the cryptic FX-115ES. Again, the FX-115ES can be more direct - but that is the same for Microsoft DOS or Unix. They can be very quick and direct, but no one wants to use cryptic commands. A GUI or touch-screen is far more intuitive and that is where the TI-36X Pro shines. However, the TI-36X Pro conversions are very basic and limited to some common conversions. For exams, this isn't as big of a problem. For scientific or engineering work, I would prefer more conversions available on the spot. The multi-tap keys on the 36X Pro are an excellent idea. TI probably had to do this because they ran out of room for more buttons or a "3rd" key. The multi-tap keys are easy to use, just repeatedly press them until you get the command you want. The color scheme of the calculator itself is an improvement over the TI-30XS MV. The 30 was white with a teal/blue green color. The white has now turned yellow, and the 30 always looked like a kid's calculator. The TI-36X Pro is a black/dark gray motif and there are 7 keys coated with a metallic color. It makes it hard to read the symbols, but TI did etch the 6 keys with their commands. My only guess as to why they did this was that the keys tend to rub smooth with repeated use. I had my TI-86 for the longest time since 1996, and most of the keys were polished smooth by the time it started to malfunction and use up batteries in a few days. So the etching/molded keys aren't a bad idea - I just wish they used a more visible/contrasting scheme for those keys. The solar assist comes in handy for exams because you don't have to worry about changing your batteries too often. Although TI does mention this is just a solar assist to lengthen the battery life probably by using whatever photovoltaic source you can get via the cell but relying mainly on the CR2032 lithium coin cell. I removed the battery and the calculator refused to turn on even under direct sunlight. So apparently the calculator does run on the CR2032 battery and utilizes some assistance from the solar cells. I am not a big fan of the hard case, as it clips at the bottom and top. I prefer the slide case of the TI graphing calculators although the 30XS/36X Pro case has better retention. It's not going to come apart in a backpack. To sum it up, I'd recommend the TI 36X Pro in situations where you cannot use a graphing calculator. I am still split on the Casio FX-115ES and the TI-36X Pro, although I feel both are on-par in terms of features. The TI-36X Pro is definitely more user friendly. Overall: 4/5 stars

There are some great reviews for this product, but I have seen the lack of mention of one outstanding thing about this calculator. I haven't owned many calculators, but I have used a Ti84 Plus and a Ti84 Plus CE for many years through high-school and college. Albeit this calculator is not a graphing calculator it performs very well and meets my expectations for engineering courses. In fact something stands out. This calculator by default does EXACT math! One thing I have never encountered (and long stopped expecting) was putting the square root of 8 in a calculator and getting back a simplified radical (2) X (the square root of 2). The TI Graphing calculators will always give, an irrational number (2.828427.....) If you want to get a simplified exact answer, you better know how to program or download from the internet an app for it. With the TI-36X Pro, you put it in and it churns out your simplified radical (even rationalizing the denominator of a fraction), every time, not only this, it does the same with pi, opting to display the pi symbol with the most simplified fractional form of your answer. Even if you don't want an exact answer, there is an operator key that will give you the decimal approximation if you desire. This would have been very convenient in classes I took, such as Calculus 2 and 3. Where during a test or on homework, you are often left with very long strings of numbers you have to use add/subtract - multiply/divide. Most teachers want you to give an exact answer so you can't just throw it all into a Graphing calculator, it will give you an approximated number. The TI-36X Pro, will take all of this math and give you a perfectly simplified and exact answer. A $30 dollar calculator capable of something my $150 dollar calculators don't do.

Haven't wrote a product review in a while, but this calculator warrants it. It does everything you can think of except graphing and that is a HUGE plus. First off, graphing calculators really are not needed. I took Calc 1, 2, and 3 without one. Instead of relying on a calculator, one should recognize the formats of the actual graph without having to graph it. Yes it can speed up calculations, like max and min, but you should do them by hand in school to actually learn what is going on. Graphing you should only check your work. But anyways, this thing is great. I have a HP 50g, love the CAS and wanted another HP calc. I had a TI 36 from years ago that I used as my basic calculator but the screen was dimming so I was looking for a replacement. I was surprised to see the features on this. I hate having to whip out my huge calculator to do simple stuff. I am an engineering student, but most of the time I don't need a lot of the features. That's where the TI shines. Its non graphing, so it can be used on more exams. Professors won't know the capabilities of this thing. Matrices, vectors, stats.... easy as pie to enter. Just the other day my circuits professor asked the class to verify the answer and I was the first one to say "yes". It's small and light, automatically turns off, and is solar powered. NICE! It will solve simultaneous equations, 3 x 3 matrices, quadratics, even diff equations in the menu. Even puts answers into its own variables automatically. It's been good so far, and I put my HP 50g in my desk drawer. Give me another year to try it on more advanced classes but honestly, anything short of you being in a research lab, and this calculator will easily get the job done. Probably the best feature I like is the fraction key. I always loved the way TI deals with fractions. Push one number, click a button, push another and there are your numerator and denominator. And it will show you in the complex fraction form the answer in the display. Then you can push one button above the enter key to display it in decimal format... So bottom line, the calc is 22 bucks, a stupendous value for what you get. And its fast. You don't have to wait that second or 2 for an answer. Time to get back to my physics hw.... :O)

I first bought this calculator shortly after it came out in 2012. I was halfway through engineering undergrad at the time and it quickly became my go-to calculator. The calculus functionality blew my mind at the time as most scientific calculators did not have that at the time. I used it all throughout grad school and now I use it for work in R&D industry. I have multiples of these calculators including my desk at work, the lab at work, and at home. In fact I once bought like 5 of these just to make sure I (and my colleagues) always have one within reach in the lab. What can I say, it does everything I need it to do without any cruft. Graphing calculators just aren't practical or useful for a working engineer (or me at least) when I have easy access to python and excel. And otherwise, this just does everything I need from a desk calculator. Since I'm a huge nerd I occasionally check to see if there are any new scientific calculators out there that are better. And I've yet to find one that can replace the TI-36X Pro for me. I recommend this calculator to anyone from high school or college students to full-time engineers and scientists that need a scientific calculator.

Tengo alrededor de 10 meses con la calculadora, por lo que me he animado a contarles la experiencia que he tenido con ella. Al principio es un poco tardada la transición entre usuarios de Casio a esta calculadora ya que tanto las funciones como la notacion que se usa es diferente, pero vale totalmente la pena, sobre todo por el display que puede mostrar operaciones y resultados anteriores al mismo tiempo, nunca había tenido una calculadora con esa capacidad y vaya de lo que me estaba perdiendo, es increíble el tiempo que te ahorras e incluso el desgaste mental de siempre tratar de aprenderte algunos resultados con varias cifras. Otra ventaja es la forma en que se insertan las operaciones, es mucho mas claro y se presta menos a confusión(por uso de paréntesis) ya que puedes escribir todo como lo escribirías en una libreta. Ahora lo que me parece un poco incomodo es que el signo menos no puedes usarlo como se te de la gana, hay dos tipos de menos, la operacion aritmetica y el signo como tal que indica cuando un numero es negativo, si por alguna razon usas el simbolo de sustraccion en una operacion como por ejemplo: (12)^-12 te dara un error, tienes que usar el signo de menos, el cual es (-) (asi es la tecla en la calculadora) y de esa forma no tendras problema alguno, la verdad es que te acostumbras demasiado rapido y no veo que sea una razon para no comprar esta GENIAL y POTENTE calculadora. Yo la uso para mi Ingeniería en Electrónica y me va de 10 para todas mis materias las cuales no son básicas, ya que ya estoy por concluir la carrera. Espero les sea de ayuda mi experiencia con esta calculadora que definitivamente es BUENA, BONITA Y BARATA!

This is the best scientific calculator that I've ever used. It provides a lot of the functionality of the Ti-84 graphing calculator for a small fraction of the price. There are few other calculators on the market that provide comparable functionality - namely the Casio FX-991ES/FX-115ES and the Sharp ELW516XBSL. However this calculator is the best of the group. What sets this calculator apart from the pack is its ease of use and excellent usability. You don't need to read the manual to figure out how to use it, and its features are very usable. Examples: Big, High Resolution Display: All the three high end scientific calculators (this, the casio, and the sharp) have pixel grid displays and can show expressions in their written mathematical form. However this calculator's 4 line display can show more on the screen than any of the other calculators. This makes long calculations easier, makes matrix entry much more usable, data tables more usable, and data entry for statistics much easier. Unique (in this class) capabilities of this display include: - See up to 4 expressions and results at a time. The calculator puts the result on the same line as the expression when it fits comfortably. The Casio and Sharp only let you see one calculation at a time, and you must scroll back to see previous calculations. - 3x4 augmented matrix entry (for a 3 variable linear system) where the entire matrix can be seen at once. On the Casio, you have to enter larger matrices one line at a time, and on the Sharp you can only enter one coefficient at a time. - 4 row * 3 column data entry for statistics: you can see 4 rows of 3 column data at a time, plus a data entry line below. On the Casio, you can only enter X and Y values rather than having 3 arbitrary lists, and the display can only show 3 rows of 2 column data at a time. The Sharp is also limited to 2 variable XY pairs, and as a further limitation you can only enter/view one XY record at a time. Thanks to the better display and better display use, the Ti-36X Pro is by far the most capable of the pack. No Complicated Mode Switching: In the Casio/Sharp sense of modes, the TI-36X Pro has only one mode. It can do everything in that mode. There is no separate mode for integration, statistics, data entry, solving systems of different types, etc. When working under time constraints, switching between modes and navigating elaborate nested menus wastes time and breaks one's chain of thought. Losing all calculation history on a Casio/Sharp when switching modes doesn't help either. On the TI-36X Pro, just press one button to do what you want without switching mode. Want to enter data for stats? Just press the DATA button and start entering data into the table. Want to jump to solving a cubic equation? Just press poly-solve and solve your polynomial. Want to jump back into your stats? Press DATA and you'll be back with all your old data intact. Once you're done with your stats, press CLEAR and you'll be back at the regular calculator window with your calculation history and saved variables just as you left them. Numerical Integration, Numerical Differentiation, Series Summation, and Sequence Product: All these features are quick, accurate, and need no explanation to use. Note that the numerical integration algorithm used here is faster and more accurate than the Simpson's Rule used on the Sharp. The sequence product is a handy feature that you don't see on other calculators. Overall, this is a fantastic calculator. I do recommend reading the manual though. This calculator has a ton of handy features that you probably aren't aware of. With that said, I have a few minor criticisms: - The 2x2 system solver shows the AX + BY = C form rather than a 2x2 matrix. This may be more beginner friendly, but its annoying to have to press enter twice to move between variables. You need to press enter twice because it lets you change the sign between AX and BY from + to - and back. This is a useless feature that slows down operation. A regular 2x3 (2x2) augmented matrix (as used by the 3x3 solver) would be more efficient. - You need to press the up button twice and then press enter to edit the previous expression. On the Casio, you only need to press up once and then start editing right away Notwithstanding these minor criticisms, I recommend this calculator whole heartedly. It's a must have for Engineers and Scientists.

La TI 36 X PRO è una calcolatrice di alta gamma. Consente di svolgere tutte le operazioni necessarie di pre Algebra, Algebra e Trigonometria, Statistica e quelle più avanzate di Analisi Matematica. Inoltre ho trovato molto utile la funzione Math Print che consente di visualizzare le principali operazioni e formule così come si presenterebbero scritte. Molto utile anche la possibilità di poter vedere espresso in frazione un risultato in numero decimale, ove possibile. Inoltre la calcolatrice è robusta e resistente. Texas Instruments è sempre una garanzia di qualità. Una cosa che ho apprezzato in un vecchio modello TI degli anni 90 è che a distanza di 30 anni è ancora funzionante e le scritte sui tasti non sono affatto sbiadite ma sembrano appena stampate. Sinonimo di grande qualità.
