I love this remote start
I love this remote start. I installed in a 2003 Jeep Wrangler with a Manual Transmission. IT will work, however instead of wiring the parking brake lead to the parking brake, I wired it to a switch that has to be pressed in order for the remote start to work. It is just a extra step to remind the driver to put the transmission in neutral. It also makes it nice to disable the remote start in case I do want to leave the transmission in gear on a steep hill. I installed power locks in my jeep as well, and this works perfect to lock and unlock my doors. The range is Ok, but not great. I can be in my basement and start my Jeep park next to my house. I do wish I would have spent the extra money and got the 2-way system. It would be nice to know if the vehicle actually started or not. Overall, this does not disappoint. Please do not purchase this if you don't know anything about 12V electrical wiring. It isn't something that just easily pops in your vehicle and works. It takes understanding the wiring of YOUR vehicle, because each vehicle is different. It also requires wire splicing. It isn't complicated to install, but if you have never done something like this before make sure you understand what you are getting yourself in to. Anyway, I soldered each of my splices, and covered them in heat shrink. Also, my the virtual tach would not work in my application, so I wired the tach sense wire to a coil pack on my engine. I swapped in a V8 in my Jeep, so thats most likely why the virtual tach wouldn't work. Overall I can't say enough good things about this. It has exceeded my expectations!

Great Remotes, Unbelievable Range, A fraction of the cost of OEM Replacements!
Great system, simple, straight forward, do your research on installation, find the proper wiring diagrams for your car, take your time, and do it right and you will be happy. With that said it is not for the faint of heart, having experience wiring is recommended. The remotes are very nice quality and they feel great in the hand. As for range, really, REALLY impressive. In the summer, I parked my car in the lot at a ski lodge and hiked to the top of the face with some friends (probably half to three quarters of a mile straight line of sight) double checked to see if my car was locked, and low and behold, it worked, repeatedly without failure. Remote starter is super handy, I have it wired in a manual transmission car (properly with a safety switch) and can safely remote start my car. I didn't wire the defroster or the auxiliary output, though I am tempted to wire the aux to roll the windows up or down (still need to figure out wiring for that). For the price I paid, I'm super happy. And to think I now have two fobs and a remote start all for less than half the price of a single fob from the Subaru dealer.

stop writing misleading reviews!!! use common sense
I see a lot of people complaining about how "the product was hard to install, had to pay for labor, etc"...well the customer NEGLIGENCE has nothing to do with the review of the actual product. Thats like saying that you bought microwave popcorn and dont own a microwave. ..so some of you people are going to complain when it was their own fault for not doing their research! The product is great. Just like the older viper 4103, only with a new style remote. Installation for most vehicles is easy if you have 12 volt experience. 1500 ft range, d2d capable... great economical remote start AS LONG AS IT IS PROPERLY INSTALLED!! Remote starts are NOT a diy install simply because if something goes wrong, you have NO clue on what to look for. I love making money fixing poor and sloppy installations, from the diy'ers. And yes, i have been a 12 volt mecp certified installer of 7 years, and i know what im talking about.

Installation went off perfectly without any real problem and it worked great until recently until it just stopped working one da
I ordered this last February and installed it myself- knowing that I would not receive any instructions and that I would be at my own risk. Installation went off perfectly without any real problem and it worked great until recently until it just stopped working one day. Since it was still within the one-year warranty period, I filled out the corresponding RMA forms and send my remote back to Directed/Viper. About 3 weeks later, I received the same remote I sent to them, in the same box with a crumpled up form that looked like it was printed onsomebody's basement printer. The only insightful information on the form was a column that said "unable to determine if unit was purchased from an "authorized dealer". Needless to say, I was pretty pissed, since no effort was made to contact me during the time it was gone, despite the fact that they had my email and phone number. My next step consisted of emailing the online store, avSoundz, to see if they would be of any help. To my surprise, I got a response saying, "no problem, send us the bad unit and we will send you a replacement"! So I did. And they sent me a brand new replacement. I cannot express how impressed I was, and I will tell everybody I know about how helpful they were. On the other hand, I will use this space to tell everybody who is considering buying this product, do not expect to receive any help or support from Viper/Directed! No instructions come with the unit, and warranty claims will most likely be ignored, like mine. Iwasted the money shipping my remote to them in order to have them send it right back to me in a span of 3 weeks. I have learned by reading forums, that the whole remote start industry is cloaked in vague protocol of forcing consumers to go to certain installers to have the work done, at a very steep cost. I cannot help but imagine these "authorized" installers have got to have vested interest in using a specific brand product. Hence the reason no instructions are provided, and no support is offered from the manufacturer. I am a do it yourself kind of person. I am not an idiot- if I want to tackle a job like this myself that should be my choice. I am not somebody who will gladly hand $300+ to an "installer" just because that's how it has to be. Having said this, I have learned a lot about how these things work, and unfortunately how the market for these works. As for the remote, I am happy with how it performs. I believe I got a good product for what I paid. It works. The components themselves are about what you expect, mass produced relay boxes with lots of circuitry inside. And as with anything electronic, is prone to failing randomly, like mine did. It is nice to be able to warm my car up a little on cold days, and the range on the door locks is far superior to the factory remote entry that came with the older car. I would recommend this remote to somebody who wants a simple, inexpensive remote start.

Great product
Works great with good distance. Another great Viper product. The manual that comes with it is an owners manual with limited install information, but enough to get it installed. It will not tell you what color wires to hook to on your vehicle. Google helps with this. Knowledge of the vehicle electrical system and how to use a multimeter correctly will make install a breeze Note: Warranty is only valid if it is installed by an authorized installer. I installed all my own so warranty means nothing to me.

2007 F150 went well after
Installed last week in a 2007 F150 and it was pretty easy. The range is great, I remote started my truck from the movie theater bathroom when I was parked in the last row of spots. For the install my truck key has a chip in it so I needed a bypass. I used [...] to look up a bypass that didnt need 3 keys (This PKTX bypass works great on the F150 but you can check them out your self at xpresskits) http://www.amazon.com/Xpresskit-PKTX-Encrypted-Bypass-Solution/dp/B005KGOG8G The best way to do this is to get everything hooked up to a point where it will start with your key in the ignition in the off position, then plug in the bypass and go through the process of programming it (mine involved putting each key in the ignition and turning it on for 3 seconds). Got my wiring diagrams from here for free [...] Was a little difficult to find anything definitive on the jumper placement but here it is. If your vehicle has Positive Parking Lights (like my F150), then you'll want to set the jumper on the two pins that are closest to the Red D2D port on the Viper. It will start without the parking light jumper but it is much nicer to have it so you can have a visual confirmation.

REMEMBER YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY A SHOP TO INSTALL AND THE PRICE I GOT WAS OVER $200. CRAP!!!!!
the remote start I purchased to go with it has to be installed by "an approved shop" and since I have worked for Chrysler for over 10 years and I was going to install this on my wife's Chrysler town and county I wanted to do it my self so it was in fact installed correctly. I have seen many aftermarket products installed over the years and I DO NOT APPROVE of the installation parts they use (quick spices and not solder and heat shrink.) I have returned this and the remote start system and will be looking for one that has better support. no wiring diagrams are offered unless you are a dealer for the company. the brand of the remote start I ought was Viper/Directed I also gave them a horrible review.

I really like it. Has a couple small features I was ...
I thought the price was fair, and installation at a local shop cost me about 90 bucks. No problems, I really like it. Has a couple small features I was not aware of such as : ability to remove your key from the ignition and keep the vehicle running (in park, of course), a cold weather timer that will start the vehicle every 4 hours and have it run up to a preset amount of time each time. The shut down security feature is really nice also. If anyone tries to take your vehicle while it is running on remote start, if they even touch the brake pedal or try to put it in gear the vehicle instantly shuts down. Really nice system, fair price, top company in alarms and remote starts, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a remote start.

Good quality. Takes a lot of research to install by yourself. Make sure you installed it correctly before using it since you can damage components of the vehicle.

Doesn't work as it should.
It's ment for gasoline engines as well as diesel. Got it professionally installed and when the installer went to switch it from gasoline to diesel start his computer couldn't access it. Came as no connection detected. And the only way to access that feature is witb an installer computer. Very disappointed
