Could use better illustrations
I like this book! It is unique among all other books that attempt to introduce drivers to their autos. I think it can give a girl confidence in herself seeing another female excel in what is typically thought of a man's area of expertise. I bought a copy in order to give it to a female friend who just bought her first vehicle and knew almost nothing about cars. One other review criticized why the author was in almost every photo. I think it was done deliberately to show girls they too can do it and I think it was a great idea. However, I wish this book had more and higher quality illustrations of all the systems in a vehicle. It fell short of my expectations on that score. Could have had a lot more! And I wish it had less information about buying cars. That chapter was one of the longer ones and it named off a bunch of irrelevant information about the latest models. It should have given more info about how to find resources for comparing models. And further, naming specific models from the current year instantly makes the chapter obsolete in a year. Nix the descriptions, focus on the process, and cut the chapter in half.It would be nice to see a revision along the lines I have identified.

Great 101 crash course on your car and it’s maintenance!
Loved the content so much I bought 2 more as gifts for my girlfriends! Growing up with this knowledge imprinted on me by my father and mother has made me the go to person for these types of questions. So, when I found Courtney Hansen had written a 101 to getting to know your car I knew I had to get it for my friends! This is a great base line for getting started.

Not What I Expected...
This is the first time that the negative reviews I read were right. This is not the kind of book I wanted, there is not a lot of information on important things and mostly tells you to take it to the shop. Almost half the book is information on buying a new car, which cars are great to buy, should you lease, buying a new or old car, etc, etc etc. I already bought my car (duh!) and found this pretty useless.

Useful
Purchased for 23 year old female who has experienced car issues because she doesn't know what basic maintenance to do on a regular basis, this book gives lots of practical advice that is easy to understand.

Good Start!
This book speaks to the basics of auto maintenance written for non-mechanics (male of female). The author has a legitimate background in auto repair. Her ability to make things basic and understandable is a treat.

Excellent book, provides a 100% fill-in after reading each chapter.
This is the only book published at the time of this review that shows 100% truth about how to work on cars. It is a book I will enjoy reading once I get my own copy...this went as a gift. This is a systematic book for working on cars.-Morgan
