Great Quality Pressure Relief Valve for Outside Spigot
This replaced a leaking pressure relief valve on my outside water spigot. The build quality is great, and it has worked perfectly since I installed it. I highly recommend this product for replacing a pressure relief valve, or if you want to upgrade a builder quality valve.

This sure made servicing the spare tires in two cars a whole lot easier.

Must wait for pressure to build up on initial install
I installed the Arrowhead PK1390 Replacement Self Draining Vacuum Breaker today on my Arrowhead 480 Series Anti-Siphon Frost Proof Lawn Faucet. My first impression was that I got a defective product because I had a waterfall spraying out of the top ring of holes closest to the top of the breaker. I called Arrowhead customer service and was told this was normal and the solution is simple: attach a hose to the breaker and close the other end of the hose. Then open the faucet and wait for pressure to build up and create a 'backflow like' situation - this will cause the waterfall to stop and the breaker will function normally going forward. They are apparently printing this on the new packaging however mine did not mention this. It works perfectly now.

Perfect. Buy it
Perfect. Has the fine thread female to fit the faucet. Saved me a fortune.

Works as advertised.
It took a little research, but my husband (a definite non-plumber) successfully ordered the correct thread-sized valve (ours is 3/4"). He wrapped the spigot threads with plumber's tape and screwed on the valve initially by hand, then with channel-lock pliers (with virtually no damage to the valve.) He attached a hose, and everything worked as advertised. Like others who apparently did not understand the full purpose of the valve, we found that without a hose connected, the valve just spewed water like a fountain. Turns out that the valve is designed to work correctly only when there is pressure at the hose connection - which closes the valve that lets water out the 'escape holes'. If a vacuum develops for some reason, the valve opens, allowing any water that may be backing up through the hose to drain through the holes, thus preventing potentially contaminated water from entering the household system. The lack of pressure when the water is first turned on, or when it is turned off, causes a brief drainage from the valve. Not sure what do if you need to occasionally remove the hose and use the spigot - it appears that installing and removing the valve repeatedly is not a good idea. If a hose is never to be used for a particular spigot, that spigot does not need such a valve; otherwise, if a hose is to be continually attached, the valve should work fine. As others have noted, do not use the set-screw if there is a possibility that the valve will have to be removed. The set-screw's purpose to is provide a permanent, theft-proof, installation. My husband just removed it.

Soft metal
Well, I am certainly willing to accept some blame here, but if you buy this product do not use the hex head locking nut. As soon as it met the least amount of resistance the head snapped off. Cheap product quality, extremely soft metal. I get it, it need to soft as it may be seated against brass, when I tell you it snapped off at the smallest amount of resistance, I cannot understate that enough. I would just remove it. Now I have to get a punch set to remove.
