Wahl USA Rechargeable Lithium Ion All in One Beard Trimmer for Men

There is a lot to really like here. Let me go over some thoughts: First the thing that really surprised me was how portable this was. At first I wasn't sure I'd like it because I was used to the trimmers that were basically tanks, plugged into the wall, but after using this Wahl for a few weeks, I've really started to enjoy it. Plus I can bring it on business trips with me, that's a definite perk and worth getting used to a slightly smaller trimmer width. Comes with a travel pouch to put everything in. That pouch is about 6-7" long and fits easily inside my larger toiletry bag easily. The battery life has been fantastic. One full charge has lasted for over 2 weeks of consistent use (about every other day for about 10 minutes). I will amend this if/when I get to the end of a full charge. I'm still waiting. If I had to find a negative, I guess it would be cool to have the vacuum attached so the little hairs can get collected and save time with cleanup. But truly, if it meant a much bigger unit or worse battery life, I'm not sure that would be a good trade off. Never had that luxury before so can't comment on it. Basically, I recommend this highly for someone who has a beard to trim or keeps a short haircut (or definitely both). the attachments are solid, sturdy and do the job. There are a lot of different options to work with. Honestly, I haven't tried them all out yet. I've been using the hair and beard trimmers (not the razor, yet). Amended information from my original post: Okay, I've had this now for more than a few weeks now and I've only had to charge this trimmer a few times. It easily goes for longer than a week with daily use on a full battery charge. This is a great trimmer, still highly recommend.

Going for the record for longest owner review! I've had this wahl lithium trimmer for 4 years, and have been very pleased. I'm pretty picky and use it alot, about once a week, and i've been through many other types. this is the best i've found for me. First off, I'll tell you what I use it for: I shave my head often, I've used both heads with no guard and both short guards, all work well and cut at different lengths. and I trim my beard, usually short, the beard cutting head/guards work well, but i prefer to use the larger (wider) head, just because it goes faster. I also use the foil shaving head on my neck occasionally, and it seems great too. I haven't used this to cut any other types of hair so i can't comment on how it works for that. i've taken this trimmer to many different places i've lived, other countries, and even on a cross country bicycle trip (to keep me from looking like a total bum). the lithium power is really what makes it worth it, cuts quickly, and i don't have to always keep charging it. I eventually had a problem with it holding a charge after about 3 years. i was discouraged and thought it had finally bit the dust. i thought it was the battery so i sent it to wahl with the charger, and a few weeks later they returned it, I think with a new charger, under warranty, and it's been great ever since. Their customer service is very good. I recently called to order a new head that had been lost. I was on hold for 10-15 minutes, but the rep that answered was very helpful, knowledgeable and clearly communicated everything. I bought the head for 10 dollars and she sent me two guards for free. Biggest drawback for me has been keeping track of all the heads and guards. I've never been able to put them back in a back or container after i use them, and with a lot of traveling, I often misplace them in bags and eventually lost two guards. I wish there was a way to not need them, but i tried a new trimmer with fully adjustable one-piece head, and it worked terribly for very short haircuts (uneven). I did discover i can take a wire or paperclip and run it through holes in all the guards, that helps keep them together some. So, it's been a great item for me, serves its function well, and i don't have to worry about it. hopefully i can write another review after four more years.

I had to return the first one after a week, because it died. I wish I would have exchanged it for the Wahl 9818 Lithium Ion Stainless Steel All-in-one Groomer ($50.99 Nov-2012). My second one lasted a few weeks (still on the first charge) and the on/off switch jammed. The internal sub-assembly seems to have come loose, so when I move the switch I am moving the internals instead. I waited too long to return it to Amazon, so I replaced it with the 9818. I wish that I would not have tried to save $20, because now I have paid $82 total. Other reviewers have mentioned the rubber cover and the hair that sticks to it. I wanted to return it for that reason before the switch stopped working. You cannot use water to rinse this off, and dry towels won't remove the hair. The thing that works the best is a damp rag, but what a pain. It picks up stuff on surfaces that appear to be perfectly clean. It's a magnet. If you don't mind the hair, or don't mind using a damp cloth, then this would not be an issue. But I would rather spend the extra $20 for the stainless version. I only use this to trim my sideburns, so all of the other attachments are a waste for me. I bought this because it was the least expensive Wahl I found with a lithium ion battery. The battery is amazing and neither trimmer worked long enough to need a recharge. Update Nov-2012: It was very nice to see the comment from Wahl (below). I have never had that happen before. I returned the defect and purchased the 9818. The 9818 was also apparently defective. The Wahl website says that both clippers have the same torque, but my new stainless 9818 runs slow and seems wimpy. After a full charge I could grab the blades while running and stop them using very moderate force. I was unable to stop the lesser expensive 9854 now matter how much force I used. I sent the 9818 to Wahl repair at the same time. They just received them today. I am sticking with Wahl in spite of this experience because they have the strongest motors, the best blades, and they are made in the USA. And now I know that their customer service is good too.

This is my third Wahl rechargeable. Each has been better than the one before. On checking my purchase history, I see that this one has lasted 11 years. I can’t complain about durability or anything else I can think of. It’s a pleasure to get good value in a purchase these days. I’m thinking about this as I shop to replace a 32 year old refrigerator. Consumer Reports says that the average lifespan for a new refrigerator is just 10 years and the ice maker breaks after just 5 years. See what I mean about value? I recommend this trimmer to anyone looking for good value in a well made product. Now, back to that refrigerator….

I have had these before over the past 20 years. Does great job on trimming my goatee and mustache. The only negative so far is my attachments from my previous trimmers don't fit this new model. I like move to using USB to charge the trimmer vs the old bricks. The new attachments work fine . I haven't tried the ear or nose attachments. I don't know how well the battery holds charge. I do wish they had added a charge light to indicate when it is fully charged.

If you wish to keep a beard or mustache trimmed, look no further. Love the nose trimmer as well. My 1st Wahl trimmer lasted almost 15 years and this one is even better! No need to shop further, simply order this one now.

I wanted to like this trimmer, but it's just not up to par. I love that you can interchange the different head attachments and the battery lasts for quit a while. However, the cutting quality of the blade attachment is terrible. It constantly rips the hairs out instead of cutting them, making for an uncomfortable trimming experience. Of course the blade attachment was my primary reason for purchasing so it's basically useless. I just don't think the cutting speed is on par with the older models and that's why it's pulling instead of cutting. Will go back and purchase the same older model Wahl (Model 9918-6171V) that i had, as that worked flawlessly.

Most of the time I shave with a safety razor, but once in a while, the hair on my face and neck gets a little long for a safety razor and I need a set of clippers. I also need to trim my sideburns and back of my neck if I went too long without a haircut. I had actually purchased a couple of different clippers that were a lot cheaper (under $20) and they would not cut my sideburns, trim my neck or cut the facial hair down far enough where I could shave with a safety razor. So I decided to break down and get professional clippers ,which I figured would be over $100. And then I ran across these from Wahl, which is a well-known brand name. Could they work for my needs? Yesl these clippers did a good job trimming my neck and my sideburns. Later, I got a chance to cut the facial hair and the hair on the back of my neck. I'm sure professional clippers would cut faster, but these did a good job. They also cut my facial hair and neck short enough that I could finish up with a smooth shave with my safety razor.

Used once and Item did not charge on first charging and unable to return Is there any warranty?

I used this product and it's great. The shave is close and nice. The shaver feels solid in your hand and not cheap. The delivery and service was excellent!

The main problem with the trimmer was that it shipped with an American plug only. I had to buy a US to UK plug converter to charge it. The combs supplied were only good for stubble or bushy beard. Nothing in between. Unit looks great and battery life is awesome.
