Waiting for gold...
My wife bought this game for me as a Christmas gift. I've played through the main quest once already and started a new character. Playing through it again has been even more enjoyable the second time around because I've figured out how to make money a little better. Replayability is great thus far. Making different choices in the game opens up different paths to explore. It can be a real time suck, still worth it in my opinion. Learning the new "leveling" system is easy. I was a little disappointed at first, but I got over it quickly. It allows for just as much customization, It's just presented in a different way. Pros: Easy to jump in and play. Combat allows for more strategy than is initially apparent. Just as fun as previous iterations of Fable. No disappointing final "battle" (I'm looking at you Fable II) Your stats are compared during loading screens to your friends on Xbox Live (this has pushed me to try to beat my friends chicken kicks, etc.) The story is much more dynamic than I expected. The commercials hardly gave it credit. (Still no Hollywood production, but a decent story) Cons: The main quest feels short, it's a little easy to just blast through, but you'll want to play it again. Playing a "bad" character really limits the experience compared to a "good" character. On my original Xbox 360 Pro (Circa February 2006) the graphics will chug a little sometimes, it could be my box specifically, I'm not sure, but it's irritating as hell. I rather miss having a health bar. (You could argue that the display is much cleaner and leaner though.) It's a great game. If you're already a Fable fan it's a great entry and you'll find nods to previous games scattered throughout Albion. If you're not already a fan, but you like console RPGs then this is a good entry for your collection.

No Broken Promises, I Loved it... Fable 3 delivers. Don't believe all the bad reviews.
First off I want to say I have played all the Fables, I loved Fable 1, Fable 2 was Ok (I was disappointed with it overall) And Fable 3 blows away them all. People complain about the whole "menu" thing with the sanctuary...It didn't bother me one bit. The progression of the game mixes very well and once I got started it was hard to turn off the game. Once you become King, I think is when the fun really starts. Every promise you made to build allies now has to be approved (but it costs money from the treasury). So really if you want to be the all perfect Angel King you approve everything but you bankrupt the State. If you deny everything and Side with Reaver (Who plays the greedy Industrialist/Capitalist to the T) You fill the treasury with gold that you need to build the Army. I saw alot of reviews here that criticized this aspect but there is ways around it. BEFORE you become King if you owned businesses and Rented houses you Can TRANSFER funds from personal funds to the Treasury and Vice Versa. I didn't approve of every "Good" thing when I was King Because I needed the money to buy more businesses and then Transfered it to the Treasury. I approved most of the promises and I got a successful ending that I don't want to spoil for anyone. Also these "game Ending" bugs everyone keeps talking about were non existent for me And never had a single problem. I'll close this by saying there should be more games like this...Action/Adventure RPG That turns you into a Monarch that micro manages a Kingdom.

Fable 3 -- SPOILERS!!!!
I love all the Fable games, but this one especially. A few notes to those buying the game and who have played Fable 2 (BEWARE, SPOILERS!): This game is not as customized as Fable 2. The morality in Fable 3 is NOT the same in Fable 2 -- in Fable 3, there is only "good" and "evil" rather than good, evil, pure, and corrupt. Those who have played Fable 2 will know what I am talking about. In Fable 3, you do not grow horns if you choose to be "evil." The system for buying and selling homes and stores is very different, but personally I like it better. Buying things in stores isn't as easy, in my opinion, and selling items isn't as fast as it was in Fable 2. Nor is it really as profitable. The story line in Fable 3 is more straight and there are less choices than in Fable 2. There is the "Road to Rule" in Fable 3, which I find annoying. You'll see what I mean. The spells work differently and there are less choices in what you can spend experience on. The weapons are neat -- you get a weapon that sort of evolves with you at the beginning of the game, which is very nice, and another great thing about this is that after every "evolution" the weapon changes its appearance! It literally evolves with your character, and the form it takes depends on how you play the game. Weapons that are bought all have upgrades, again depending on how you play the game. Read the upgrades before you purchase it -- find a weapon that fits your style. The romance works about the same way, sort of, and so do the kids. There aren't as many choices in how you communicate, but the actions are more elaborate. Also, your character talks to the other main plot characters at certain points in the game. Being King or Queen in this game comes with a lot more than it did in Fable 2. In Fable 3, you get to actually be King or Queen, with a crown and everything -- but the choices you make with affect the whole of Albion! Also, turn the volume up. The dialogue is just plain funny. I think that's all the notes I wanted to say. Mostly some small things for people who played Fable 2. I do love this game. I love Fable 2, too, but this one has a more personal story line. You lead a rebellion against your own brother and, in the process of gaining allies, you stumble upon something very dark. Personally, I like this story line better, but as a whole the game is less customized. I recommend this game to anyone who loved Fable 2!

Amazing game from lionhead
First of all I am a huge fable fan, so this review may be a tad bit biased :D Overall Gameplay 9/10 The gameplay was almost perfect, I take a point off because it was a bit too easy. I went through the game without dying once. The combat was easy to control, the enviroments were fantastic and well designed. But to be honest it really just felt like fable 2 with some extra stuff thrown in. Story 8/10 The story was fantastic and really pulled at some of my emotions, but only when I was playing as a good character. There really is no room for an evil character in this game. Which I was kind of upset at. Even though I enjoy playing as a good character more. It really just seemed to lean towards a good story. My evil character can slaughter entire villages without remorse but if a single person in a cutscene gets killed he cried and felt so bad. That however is the only flaw in the story. There is excellent character development for the supporting cast, and seems to be more well written than the past fable games. I love how this one was actually a continuation from the previous game. If you play through the story play through as a good character first so you can experience the story how it was meant to be played! You will thank me later. Exploration and size of world 9/10 The exploration was fun, but there wasn't really a need to explore, unless you wanted to see the hilarious demon doors, and find all the hidden things! And there is just so much to find! Like hidden legendary weapons golden and silver keys, and those oh so funny demon doors. There is even a cameo from the most famous demon door from fable 2! I laughed for about an hour while listening to it's story. Having the exploration being optional is kind of nice, some games like oblivion are massive and it's hard to find things which exploration is mandatory in order to do anything, but I like those too. But when you have people living with you that don't like to explore much they or just like to experience the story this is a perfect system. Music, I dunno what to rate it... I didn't hear much... but what music I did hear was pretty good, but sounded like it was ported straight from fable 2. Controls 10/10 The controls are just fantastic, they streamlined everything and did away with text based menu's! It's now all game control menu's and probably the best thing to happen to any game in quite some time! The combat controls are just fantastic and so easy yet very fun. I know it's kind of jumbled and I may have repeated things... but... yeah... that's... it... thanks for reading, I hope it helps you make a decision.

Different than expected, but loved it!
I really, really enjoyed this game, but it was very different in the end from what I was expecting. With this in mind, I can totally understand why some people are so disappointed with Fable III - as a lot of things have been simplified and the endgame approach/strategy is nothing like earlier versions. This seems like one of those titles you either love or hate....so it's tough to gauge enjoyment probability from reviews alone since ratings are all over the place. For me, however - I'm glad I made the purchase and will definitely play it again. There were several elements I found very frustrating, but the overall game play was enjoyable and I actually ended up liking it *because* of the quirky differences. It was very challenging playing from a good angle and still beating the game in the end. There are several things I wish I'd known before I started that would have saved me a lot of time and frustration. I've outlined some of these below in the Spoiler section, as there's really no way to explain it without giving away core principles of the game. In terms of game improvements, I actually liked the simplified approach to spells, leveling up and character interaction. Although these things were far more detailed in earlier releases, the sheer variety of options made the whole process somewhat tedious after awhile. In Fable III, you save a lot of time buying potions, leveling up or interacting with people because the options are so much more limited. This could definitely be a con for some....but I personally found it refreshing. The only exception was that I liked having the ability in Fable 2 to buy potions for extra experience points. No such option exists in Fable III, which means you're stuck with battling bad guys or performing side quests for leveling points. Speaking of battles, they seem more challenging in Fable III. I definitely had to be more creative with blocking, rolling and using a combination of spell casting/melee to stay ahead of things. I also found that I used spell casting far more than than I did in earlier Fables. I think this was due to the simplified approach to the spell gauntlets (and I really liked the dual spell functionality now). However, I absolutely did not like the lack of on-screen health meter. Your d-pad options appear on the screen during battle and blinks red when you're close to dying. The d-pad display will also give you the option to take a health potion (if you have any) when you need it...but you're given no other visual indication before that point. I also would have liked to see some kind of quest journal. The simplified quest list wasn't bad, but it's confusing if you start/stop individual quests and go back to them later ...as there is no journal or indication of where you left off (that I could see). Another area I didn't like was having to repair rental properties. It wasn't so much the repairing part of it, but that there wasn't a 'bulk' repair option available. If you own every house in every town, it takes a long time to periodically go through and repair them individually. I would have much rather liked to see a 'Repair All' option within the city view of your map....especially so since being a landlord is a crucial part of this game. Perhaps I'm just imagining it, but the overall game seemed to have a very pointed political undertone to it. The whole concept of becoming a monarch where everyone loves you at first, but then later hate you because you're forced to make unpopular decisions for the good of the whole....well...it just seemed to resonate with a lot of today's political climate and issues. But like I said, I could just be imagining it or projecting my own subjective viewpoints on the game. Overall, I think this was an excellent game as long as you understand from the start that it is quite a bit different from earlier versions of fable and can adapt to those changes. I'm hoping there will be more downloadable content or expansion packs available in the upcoming year. ==================================== ** SPOILER ALERT - END GAME TIPS ** - Become a landlord RIGHT AWAY It was challenging to play completely from the 'good' angle .... as you eventually assume the role as a monarch with limited resources and need to choose what's best for the country overall vs. what is best for a special interest groups. However, I can say that it possible to be good and *still* save all of your people without resorting to gold cheats. The trick is to buy up as much commercial and residential property as you can from the very start so by the time you've taken over as King/Queen you have a sizable amount of rental income established. You'll need every penny of that money (plus some) for the final big challenge of the game. - 1 Year Time Limit does not equate to game play time The last part of the game has a 1 year time limit for you to raise a certain amount of money. This time limit is not based on your actual game play time, but is based on the progression of the storyline by completing the new tasks you're presented with as a monarch. With this in mind, don't freak out if you're completely broke and are at the point where you have 365 days to raise at least 6,5000,000. You can take as much time as you need to raise the money as long as you don't progress the story line past a certain point by doing all the main quest items. If you're playing the good guy, you're going to need about 10,000,000 to give everyone what they want and still come out victorious. - Extra $$$ Once you're Queen/King, there is a demon door available that gives you a free 1,000,000 just for being the monarch. That's all I'll say about it...but it is helpful when you're scrambling to raise money.

Linear, But Still Fun
Fable 3 seemed more linear than its predecessors. I felt very rushed in getting to the final quest before becoming ruler, and once ruler the main story quests seemed to fly by until the "end" of the game. Thankfully there are plenty of additional things to do, such as hunt down all the keys and chests in the game, unlock all upgrades in the Road to Rule, own each legendary weapon, etc. The enemies are also tougher in this one, because they actually dodge you and have more life. The mixing of magics via the two gauntlets was a nice touch. One of the things I enjoyed most, though, was the "pause menu." When you press the start button you go to your Sanctuary, where they've managed to turn a traditional menu system into a more engaging experience. The main room contains the map, where you can fast travel and look at quests. Then there is a room for weapons, a room for clothing, a room for your money, and a room for online stuff like matchmaking and DLC. The various rooms loaded up very quickly and having a non-traditional menu system actually kept me in the game experience a lot better. And it was far less boring to navigate the sanctuary than it is to navigate traditional list menus. Although the main quest felt rushed, the rest of the game was very enjoyable. If you don't want a game that's going to get the main part completed in a couple days, don't get this. If you like going on all the side quests and exploring for all the little things, this game will keep you occupied for a good while.

One of my all time favorites
I picked up Fable 3 all those years ago shortly after it released and spent hundreds of hours playing it on my 360. It was my first Fable game. The RPG elements, the combat, the story, the humor, and the beautiful and engaging world really charmed me. I can't tell you how glad I am that you can play it on the Series X as it's backwards compatible. It looks SO good! The colors and detail are pushed to their limits and look absolutely incredible. It also plays much more smoothly now too. It really makes you appreciate both the Series X for being able to beautifully upscale graphics, and the game itself as you can really see all the work and effort put into Fable 3. I was genuinely surprised at how bad people thought of this game at launch. I don't see as much hate for it nowadays but I can sort of see their reasoning. The ending especially was a little... lackluster.. but the journey leading up to it was one of the most fun experiences I ever had in a game. I definitely recommend playing it before Fable 4 to get a feel of the series.

Fable 3, easy as 1,2,3
So I decided to buy this game when it cost 40 bucks. I should have waited a bit until it went down to 15-20 bucks. I do admit that the game is fun. No question about that. But the plot does have some issues. AVOID THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO READ SPOILERS. The game is very very easy. Not that any fable game is really difficult, but this brings it to a new low. During the final boss, I did not even have to use a potion once to heal. I did not even have everything upgraded and I beat him without issue ( I am sure you will read this every review you read). Kind of sad really. The game only had one real boss and that boss was a joke. Also Logan's troops that were promised to us if we let him live are never in the game (error or just a rush to finish programming the game?). It would also be nice if something happened if you let Logan live instead of just seeing him once and awhile in the game. It would be nice if you could continue to play in the royal decisions, but I have yet found out how you can do that after you kill Walter? There are many other issues, but we can leave those for others to find, leave some fun to the game. The graphics are nice, no questions there, but I see a new trend with games. The nicer the graphics, the worse the gameplay and plot. Bring me back to SNES games please (but that is a different issue). The music is nice and somewhat traditional with the other fable games (which I do like). If you are an average gamer just looking to pick up a game and not give it much thought, this is the game for you. Also if you like to hunt down random things like books or gnomes or flowers or keys, this is a game for you. If you like magic, upgrading, leveling up characters, plotline, fighting, challenges, then look elsewhere. This is not like the original Fable or Lost Chapters or any other RPG I have played. Key to this game, just keep using magic, maybe your gun once and awhile and the sword even less. I would call this game an action adventure game more than an traditional RPG. Do I even have to go into the lack of health bar and mana bar? Well there is none. Your screen gets more red as you get hit (kind of useless since you do not know how red it will get until you die, not that you will be hit enough to die). Also you have unlimited mana....who does not want that.....? Sound more fun than it is. What about experience, those nice orbs (remember them, green, red, yellow and blue. They allowed you to really customize your character and your character developed the way you made them develop)? Well they are gone as well :( Might as well take away the things that made your character fight different than everyone else. Who wants individuality away? Its not like this is a role playing game or something.....Anyway, the easiest way to get experience is talk to people......where did that come from? How come I get more experience (guild seals) by hugging someone or dancing with them compared to if I kill 5 balverines? I really hope someone gets fired for that one. As for customizing your weapons, it fell short and I will leave it at that. The weapons do look neat though, but I am sure everyone's look the same.... Now it sounds like I hate the game, I know. Truth is I did like the game. But it is no where near what I was expecting. I was hoping for a continuation of the original Fable after the massive fail of Fable 2. Maybe they learned from their mistakes. Nope. Bottom line, get this game if you have some extra cash and are bored. If you have any RPG SNES games, go play them instead. (Shout out to Earthbound haha) Better yet, wait for it to be on sale for $5, it would be worth it then, no questions asked. Then you can buy the extra content that they decided to not put in the game for some reason (cough cough, money!). Anyone notice that the makers of this game seems like King Logan or Reaver? Charge an arm and a leg for everything, but give minimum back to the community (gamers). Does Peter Molyneux have a brother? We need a new King on the Throne!
