Black Belt Kakuro: 150 Puzzles (Martial Arts Puzzles Series)

A good book in a good series
This is the fourth in a series of Kakuro books, and the hardest. The puzzles are indeed tough, and I often had to look up the answers to figure out what I had done wrong, or to get a cell number to keep me going, but they were solvable for the most part.I also purchased the Green Belt (not-so-easy) and Brown Belt (hard) books. Conceptis Puzzles did a good job of sorting the puzzles by level of difficulty. I started with the Black Belt, as it was the first one available on Amazon. I recommend you start with an easier edition and work your way up. The puzzles are the same size in all the books, 12 columns by 21 rows, which is a good value. My only complaint is that the gimme's (two number combinations with only one answer) are repetitive. For example, for a six figure 38, the 3 almost always comes from a 5, while the 5 comes from a 6. Otherwise, there is a good amount of variety among the puzzles.

Have your pencil ready. And eraser!!!
Super hard but super fun! Wouldn’t trade it for the easier book 😉Update: purchased in May and for the past 5 months take it everywhere with me in case of (rare) down time. This book is super well made! I’m on puzzle 137 now and constantly keep a pencil inside. Even with that and travel wear and tear the binding hasn’t broke and the cover is still Very intact. Can’t wait for the 2nd and 3rd degree books from conceptis. Fun and never gets boring.

Challenging but doable.
Challenging without being so hard that you get frustratingly bogged down. Adequate size and margin for notations, paper quality good enough to handle those inevitable erasures.

Hours of entertainment
Love it! I ran out of puzzles when I finished my Mensa book but this one is pretty challenging too

Killer Puzzles
This is my third book in the "Belt" series. Green was a nice diversion and Brown Belt puzzles were harder. The Black Belt stands up to its name with 150 very challenging puzzles.I usually work on one at night before sleep and each of the 14 puzzles I have done so far has taken several days to complete. At this rate it will easily be a year before I finish the book.If the five star newspaper puzzles dont keep you that busy, you will like this one. Highly recommended.

Love the challenge
This is the second Black Belt Karuro book I have owned. I loved doing the puzzles so much the first time that I decided to do them again! I like the challenge of the puzzles and the feeling of accomplishment as you find the pattern of that puzzle. You'll start to see that combinations of numbers crossing one another. This is a great way for me to pass the time while traveling.

Good Hard Puzzles
This is the third time I am working through this book. Why? Because the challenge is high and the paper is high quality! I want the paper to be sturdy enough to handle my scribbles and erasures. I need difficult puzzles to figure out and I want them to take a while so the puzzle book will take longer to complete. Love this series.

Very tough
I got this for my dad. He loves sudoku and other numbers games. He frequently does black belt sudoku and has a masters degree in engineering so he is a smart guy. This was difficult for him for several weeks until he figured out the tricks. If you have someone who likes sudoku then kakuro would be a great new challenge.

Great Kakuro !!
I am a big Kakuro and Killer Sudoku fan. These puzzles are brilliant, if you are fed up with easy newspaper ones! Not for the beginner or 5 minute coffee breaker! . In the book, there is a list of unique number combinations, which is very helpful, but you soon get to know these if you puzzle regularly. I would recommend the list in the back of the Times Killer Sudoku puzzles, which gives all possible combinations for total and number of digits.Caroline from Ballycastle.

Very good
I have done a lot soduku then 12 digits soduku and 16 digits soduku. They are not difficult, just time consuming. Then I started to play kakuro and found it really fun. On our holiday my husband got me this German puzzle book with a lot of difficult kakuro in it which I thoroughly enjoyed. Back to england I was looking and this book jumped out. These kakuroes are quite challenging for me. Great fun. If you have never played kakura, this should not be your first kakuro book though.

Excellent
I would second everything K. Denyer had to say about this book. I've not much to add, just that they are very satisfying puzzles. There are moments when it feels like there's no way you can get through a particular block in solving one, then miraculously a route emerges that is often really devious. There's always some logical way through. The best, most consistent Kakuro compilation I've found.

Sleeeep
I bought it for her in-doors because she likes doing the puzzles. Plus it keeps her quiet and out of my hair. Peace at last.... thanks Conceptis... I can read my comics now.. I bought 7 of these books so having to give my view for each is a bit stupid.. should be able to lump them altogether.
