Watercolor Basics: Painting Snow and Water

A wonderful step by step book, with detailed instruction and illustration. The topics covered by this book are hard to find in other watercolor books. Many projects to polish your water coloring skill. Highly recommended!

As the reviews of this book were quite glowing, and I had need to fill in information needed to do believable snow scenes, I decided to purchase this book. It was quite helpful in the areas presented, and the author is very detailed with information.

In this day of abstract and cerebral art it is often difficult to garner the skills needed to paint watercolors of natures' most challenging subject matter:water and snow. Jack Rieds' book is a wonderful introduction to this otherwise daunting subject. Every thing a beginner needs to know about painting snow and several different forms of water is covered in this volume of the Watercolor Basics series; from materials to application. The illustrations are lovely and not unduly difficult; yet capture the fundamentals of the subject matter beautifully. If you want to paint the winter snows, spring thaws and summers at the beach, this is the book for you, particularly beginners.

I bought this book used, because there was no other I could find that explained how to paint snow with watercolour. I have other books that cover these matters (one of Gordon Mackenzie, check it out) but not as detailed. This book has a general view of the topic and also some step by step excercises. I liked it a lot, very useful and unique in this field!!!

Came as predicted . Better condition than expected

I would recommend this book to anyone wishing to improve their technique on painting water and snow. If you have a library on painting with watercolors, and this book isn't among them, I think you would find it to be a very helpful addition.

Anyone who loves Canada's snowy winters and would like to learn how to reproduce them on paper, must have this book. He had the relaxed and expert style to transfer these beautiful scenes to watercolour paper like no other. I am so pleased to have been able to find a copy of this book. Thank you.
