A brief primer on how to pray, based on The Lord's Prayer
About a year ago I had my first taste of Andrew Murray and have been eager to get my hands on other writings by him ever since. The man had a deep, vibrant relationship with the Lord and a tremendous gift for humbly communicating insights from God's Word in profound and meaningful ways.In this little book, he examined the lines of the model prayer Jesus gave His disciples--what Protestants call "The Lord's Prayer," while Catholics refer to it as the "Our Father." Although it's recited often in most churches (every Sunday when I was growing up), most of us never consider the principles of prayer that Jesus was trying to convey. Murray does a good job of doing just that. The book is short enough to read in one brief sitting. However, as with Murray's writings in general, it's best to read a few pages a day and digest what the author has to say. Used as something of a daily devotional this way, it can be enjoyed for a couple of weeks. The eBook of this classic work is free, which makes it all the better! I am grateful to the volunteers who lovingly digitized it, so it can be enjoyed by folks who might not be able to afford or access a hard copy edition.

Excellent book for experience Christians - there are better for new believers
I absolutely agree with every other reviewer that discusses the urgency of prayer in one's life.Although in my opinion, to be fair, I think that it should be mentioned that this particular is written in a high scholar form and uses some old English which new believers or new Christians may not be able to digest. This book is really, in my opinion, directed at a Christian who has experience in christian terminology and idioms, and can ascend on words like a great cathedral. But for younger Christians who is still look for a simple church or chapel, I would not direct them to this particular book on prayer. I would recommend a writer such a Philip Yancey, his book "Prayer" is written to bring a generation of new and struggling believers into prayer.

Encouraging
I honestly feel I was Spirit led to read this book. I knew how to pray and why to pray, but I lacked consistency in my prayer life. Upon completion of this book (which took a few days because it is short) I have been disciplined in the area of prayer for the last 4 months! I know my prayer life has grown considerably due to the encouraging words of this book. If you want to learn important aspects of prayer then I recommend this book to you. I pray it will touch your prayer life as it did mine.

one of THE books for learning about prayer
Absolutely one of the best concentrated books on prayer. it is old, written in the 19th century, so some of the language can be challenging for some modern readers. But these precepts are important for a life of prayer, for us Christians. it is a short read, but in depth, I found myself going over and over some of the points made. it also is Biblical, sticking to Scripture in it's ideas, unlike so much trash supposedly for the body of Christ today.Deep, yet short, affordable and as a Kindle file with the Kindle app on my Smartphone, always available to edify and build me up for prayer.Jesus' own teaching on prayer: short and to the point, and important: today more than ever. Bless God for this.

We All Need to Get Back Into this Habit
This is another one of those classics that I never got around to reading. I saw someone on Twitter, linking to the free Kindle Edition on Amazon, so I picked it up.I'm glad I did. It's delightfully short and to the point (although the language is a bit verbose to our modern ears, so it would probably have been even shorter, if it had been written today). It served to remind me of many things I'd forgotten, and cemented once again my conviction in the power of prayer. I especially liked the bit where the author compares meditation to prayer. In today's "New Age" world, we often try to be all inter-faith and inter-denominational, by equating the two, but Andrew Murrary reminds us that what is required of us is NOT to simply meditate, but to PRAY!I'm definitely going to start getting back into this habit; with God's help, I will learn to pray again!

The Lord's Prayer magnified
A book that takes you away from the concept of an opening prayer for a religious service into the living guidance of our heavenly Father. It helps us to begin to further appreciate the essence, as well as the magnitude, of the purpose in this instruction on prayer given by our Lord. My parents urged me to say my prayers before I fell off to sleep. I remember often apologizing to God in childlike manner when I would yawn in the middle of my nighttime prayer. As a child I had not grown to understand the magnitude and instructional power within this prayer. This book may not be considered a best selling work on today's market since it is not an easy read, but it is powerful in instruction and renewed appreciation for the Lord's provision.

It will take you deeper into God
Andrew Murray is a deep thoughtful and inspiring author. The tendency to disregard authors of a bygone century in favour of modern and contemporary authors is an ever present danger. Murray never wrote books so as to become a number one seller, on the contrary, his books and this one in particular are written with deeper purpose, to take individuals further with God than they have gone before. This book works, it speaks to the heart and takes the reader back to the disciplines so necessary for a sustainable rich relationship with God.

Old Favorite Revisited
Really helpful for anyone who wants to build a better pray life. I have had this book in paperback for many year and read it many, many years ago.I decided to revisit it with the kindle version. I'm very glad I did. It inspired me and encouraged me to seek a better prayer life.A lot of the paragraphs are extra long and it could make it hard to get the most out of it, but if you go slow and read it thoughtfully and prayerfully, this will not be a draw back. This book is not long, but don't just give it a fast read. Take your time and digest the nuggets of truth in this book.Andre Murray encourages you to enroll in the school of prayer and let Jesus Himself teach you by his words on how to pray effectively. There is no greater teacher than the Lord, Himself.Even if you have read this book years ago, I recommend that you revisit it again as I did. Well worthwhile.

Andrew Murray at his best.
This is a shortish book by Andrew Murray. Those of you that know him will know that his writings are somewhat dated in language but always excellent. This is no exception. A very clear "instruction" manual, and the title says it all. You will finish the book all the better equipt for what to my mind is the most important Christian task of prayer.

Lord Teach Us How To Pray
This is quite an old book (written around 1896 by Rev Andrew Murray - who, as far as we know, didn't play tennis)Basically his message is: 'If you want to know how to pray then ask God for help'.This book is still relevent today if you struggle to know how best to pray.

Would be recommended even if you had to pay for it
Excellent.... a super scripture based guide and both a good read / study. I found it very helpful and apart from influencing my prayer life had caused me to read other Andrew Murray books which have been outstanding too
