Allows the truly adventurous to drink from any body of water and the less adventurous to drink from any hotel sink. Just fill, press, drink! GRAYL's award winning and patent-pending water purifier filters toxins from water without any pumping, waiting (gravity filters), sucking, or squeezing. Suitable for international travel and outdoor use worldwide, the Quest Travel Water Purifier removes 99.9999 percent of viruses (e.g. Hepatitis A, SARS, Rotavirus); 99.9999 percent of disease-causing bacteria (e.g. E. coli, Salmonella); 99.999 percent of protozoan cysts (e.g. Giardia); and filters many chemicals (e.g. chlorine, iodine) and heavy metals (e.g. lead, arsenic) that affect health, flavor and odor. To operate, just fill the outer cup with suspect water to the indicated fill line and then gently press the stainless steel inner cup into outer cup with steady downward pressure until the purifier (orange) rests at the bottom of cup. Ever versatile, the Quest is compatible with all GRAYL interchangeable filters. Made from 18/8 food-grade stainless steel, food-grade silicone, and BPA-free plastic (PP Number 5 & ABS). 10-year manufacturer’s warranty. Replaceable purifier lasts 300 uses (40 gal / 150 liters). Weighs 16.4 ounces (465 grams) and holds 16 fluid ounces (473 milliliters). Dimensions are 9.1" H (23 centimeters) H x 3" W (7.62 centimeters). G3+ filtration media consists of 3 filtration technologies in one for effectiveness and added protection: 1) a triple-charged ionized mesh that traps disease-causing germs through electroadsorption, 2) activated ultra-powdered natural carbon (made from coconut shells) attracts and traps many heavy metals and industrial chemicals, 3) an integrated anti-microbial agent to suppress the growth of mold, mildew and bacteria, and keeps the purifier fresh between uses. Look for another product to purify water
I bought this for my trip to Pakistan, hoping I wouldn't have to buy bottled water. It failed miserably. The water still tasted disgusting and the water I drank upset my stomach. After a few goes I stopped using it and just drank the water as is. The bottle is beautiful, but does not function as intended. Look elsewhere. Some other points:1. Pushing the plunger takes a great deal of effort.2. Water leaks out from sides when I push the plunger down.3. If the cap is one, forget about being able to push the plunger down.4. If you have dirty hands, when pushing down the plunger, the dirt will get on the drinking nozzle.

What i like about the grayl is that I could use the filter and then pour the water into my camel back and also use it and mix in an electrolyte mix. I found that I splashed a lot of water around when trying to filter and I maybe i was being clumsy with it. I did not find it too large or too heavy as some have noted. I used the travel filter which is a slower filtering process but seems to work well. I used it in Haiti in a place where the water was treated but I wanted a second pass of filtration and it was inconspicuous enough to have at the dinner table. Maybe it was me, but I just seemed to keep getting water everywhere with it.

Don't fall for it like I did (or return it quickly if you do)
Let me start by saying this is such a great concept that I hate giving it a bad review. I tried to like it, I really did. I took it to Costa Rica for two weeks. I took it on a backpacking trip in the white mountains. I used it at work to filter the crappy tasting water from our 75 year old pipes. It's such a great concept, but... The top as a whole doesn't work well and the flip top in particular is truly maddening. In fact it's so poorly designed it's hard to describe. It's like someone thought to themselves "I could make a simple top out of two pieces that would be absolutely foolproof, but that's just boring. So I'm going to design a top with a bunch of moving parts that just barely works. It will be hard to manipulate. It will be confusing. It will be massively annoying. It will work just often enough to make users think it's their fault at first. When they finally admit to themselves that it's just a remarkably poor design the return period will have lapsed. It will be funny!!" That's what happened to me, don't let it happen to you.Such a great concept. The size is fine. The weight is fine. The capacity is low but I knew that going in. The cost is high but not unreasonable if it worked great. But such an abysmally poor implementation of the flip top! I just got back from another backpacking trip with my kids and I almost threw the thing off a cliff. And of course the return window passed two days ago. My bad for trying too hard to make it work. And lest you think you can work around this - you need to open the flip top to drink. You need to open the flip top to take the top off. You need to open the flip top to add unfiltered water. You need to open the flip top to filter water. You need to open the useless &^%$% flip top all the %^#%$ time. Can you tell I'm frustrated? Read some of my other reviews - I'm a fair guy. But this particular implementation of a really great concept is simply so bad you have to experience it to believe it - and your life will be better if you don't.

Great!
Very solid construction. Everything seems well made and well thought out. Does take some effort but seems to get easier the more you use it. Like me camelbaks but hate the constant cleaning/changing of the bite piece. Also with this I can filter the water then pour into my son's regular camelbak or cup. Doesn't hold much water and on the expensive side but doesn't leak at all and is well worth the price.

Heavy but efficient. Keep top clean.
A little heavy bit well written having. Water filters nicely and doesn't take much time. The filter occupies about 1/3 of the bottle and yields approximately 6 oz. I used it in the Middle East and it worked well although the water way already relatively safe. The only concern was the drink spout. The top cover involves being smothered, turned, and latched by hand therefore, contamination is a concern in this respect.

The best thing about this filter is that because it does not require a straw or sipping device, it can be used to refill other containers, e.g. a hydropack, and can also be used for brushing teeth, etc. I used it a lot for that, and it was great. The relative negatives are (1) it is heavy, even with the "lighter" plastic version outer cup; (2) it requires some degree of pressure to push the filter through (would not be good for older persons, or someone with arthritis, for instance), and (3) it doesn't hold that much water. For short hikes, where weight and capacity are more important, I used an Aquamira filter water bottle instead. But for longer hikes I used a hydropack, and for that, this filter was perfect for filling it up.

OK for surt duration uses. Travel friendly.
There is not enough info on the filters. It says 30 seconds on one of them but I can push it in 10 seconds. Is that safe? Also unless you count 300 uses per filter or what ever the number is you will not know the life of the filter. It is very easy to use and nice for travel.

Must have for travel
Great product for traveling. I feel this product keeps me safe from bacteria in water when traveling. A little hard to use (amount of force and time to filter)
