Great Rust Remover
This is an excellent rust cleaner and stain remover. Put a tablespoon in a glass of warm or hot water, and let your facet shower head soak for an hour. It will remove all rust and lime deposits...!

Works Great on Our Very Rusty Well Water
We have a MAJOR problem with iron (hence rust) in our well water. I used this as directed in adding a cup to ½ gallon of water, then pouring it into the brine tank. (I was almost out of salt at the time, so I poured it directly into the standing water which was clearly visible at the time. Could I not see the water, I would have poured it into the standpipe to ensure maximum effectiveness.) The instructions called for a manual recharge of the softener after adding this initial ½ gallon of solution, which I did. However, I could still smell a trace amount of Rust Out in the water after the recharge cycle was completed. The odor did not go away until a second recharge cycle was performed. You may or may not experience the same necessity of a second recharge -- but, just in case you do, you might want to take the possibility of going the extra time without using your water (if bypassing the softener in the meantime isn't an option, as it is not for us). In adding more salt to our brine tank, I have also layered the ¼ cup of Rust Out atop each 40 pounds of salt added. I spread it somewhat evenly over the top of the salt, hoping for a more or less even integration of the chemical into the brine as it settles and dissolves. (I should note that I am using this in conjunction with a resin bed cleaner ( ResCare RK64N All-Purpose Water Softener Cleaner Liquid Refill, 64 Ounce ) and plain solar salt.) It's been about a week since I first started using this and it has made a marked improvement in our water. It tastes better and there is, as of yet, no visible rust discoloration in our shower or toilet bowls. After years of reluctantly accepting rust into our lives, I'm calling this a success. Rust Out will be a regular additive to our brine tank. A word of CAUTION: this is a fine powder and goes airborne EASILY. The SAME goes for Iron Out, a similar product. (They even smell the same.) I don't like breathing it in. I'm not sure of the efficacy (let alone necessity) of using this to remove rust from one's lungs, but I'm not game to find out. To minimize the dust cloud, when pouring, I pour the shortest possible distance and DON'T SHAKE it. Hold the bottle as close to the measuring cup and the measuring cup as close to what you're pouring it onto or into as possible. (I even take a deep breath and hold it while doing this.) When you're done, cover everything (bottle, brine tank) to keep the dust down.

It works!
This product worked well. The only drawback was, we had to regenerate the system 3 times & run the water by tap for quite sometime to be rid of the odor.

Works great!
Gets the job done! Definitely helps get the rust out. Fairly hard water where I live and rust staining was showing up. Followed the easy instructions, and the amount of rust that came out after treatment was amazing! Had to run the water for quite some time to get back to clear, but since then no noticable rust stains from the water! Good value, sure beats trying to scrub all the rust away weekly!

Brilliant for cleaning up the water softener. I used 350ml to 2ltrs of water and poured directly into my reservoir with the float. Ran two manual cycles and it cleared the excess iron from the system. I also used it to clean the cisterns. Worked exceptionally well.

We have a cottage with well water that has heavy iron content. We have a water softener plus iron treatment system - but full disclosure I never took the time to understand the maintenance requirements ... until of course it stopped working! During my research to fix the problem I came across the requirement to regularly add a treatment to the brine tank as a scheduled maintenance task. By this point (long story) the system had been turned off for a year and you can see the dramatic impact that had on our shower fixtures in the photo - dark brown stains all over the enclosure. We thought we had ruined them and would have to replace. Numerous store bought "iron stain removers" were like swatting an elephant with a fly swat - zero noticeable effect. The photo shows the impact this had with the job half done so you can see the impact. Mixed the solution with water, sprayed it on and then gave it a scrub. Wow. 90% better and I was later able to clean it up even further with a bit more elbow grease. Following the helpful comments from others I added this to my brine tank and performed a flush and the system is back - no more sulphur smell. I also add this into toilet bowls and tanks, let it sit and then cleaned in the morning and they came back to as good as new. Yet to be seen if adding the treatment into the system will stop the stains returning but I am confident they will. As others have said this powder can irritate your throat and lungs so handle with gloves and some kind of mask. Also be aware that the small size bottle will only have enough for about 3 treatments so if like me you are playing catch up and cleaning multiple toilets, baths and showers as well as maintaining your tank I would recommend getting the larger size bottle - it goes fast. Highly recommend if you have iron stain issues.
