8½"x11" -- fit or not? Just barely for MOST (not all 8½x11)
The main issue is whether or not the WIDTH fits 8½x11 paper. Unlike some other cases -- for Example Garret Wade (which no longer seems to sell them) these are not for the Euro size paper. So no wasting height, if you cared about that extra space. Plenty of room for the 11 inch paper height still though. The ISSUE is the width. 8½ inch wide CHEAPO paper fits. Ever so slightly more than just barely. Like by no more than 0.1 mm (a tenth of a MILLI-meter). However if you get 24-lb paper or one I got that has "feel" to it, not just 24-lb but perhaps cotton or linen, then NO that nominally 8½x11 does NOT fit. A very unusual paper, 22-lb HP -- which I've never seen (22-lb; usually you see 20-lb or 24-lb), that DOES fit. So really this case is like a gage for 8½ dimension of paper. That's too bad. You don't want to know your paper dimension to 0.1 mm. I kid you not. Perhaps 0.2mm tolerance, but not much more. My 24-lb paper with "substantial feel" is likewise substantially too wide for this intolerant case. AS FOR CLIPS. That is NOT an issue. Rather the clips, clasps issue is an epiphenomenon of folks trying to insist on clasping shut when they've put paper of 8½ that is beyond this "gage"s 8½. If your paper is not generous on the 8½ -- like most cheapo paper will be (stingy, not generous with the 8½) than clasping shut and the clasps are not a problem. And even if they do come off, its just the clasp's groove slipping off the case's pin. Nothing broke. Just torque from misalignment. But with only stingy-8½ paper there is no issue. Except: how do you know your paper is stingy-8½ as opposed to generous-8½? The colors are nice.

Very sturdy snap close feature for important papers
I've searched and searched for years to find more of these. I love them and use them for my cats vets visits. I have 5 rescues and know by the color which one is which cats. Purrfect little container for important notes that I carry when a vet visit is made. Love these!

Protects your letter-sized stuff no problem
I purchased this set to be able to easily store and transport photo ops at a convention. I also kept my printed schedule in there facing outward so I could easily see it through the transparent case and not risk mangling it over the course of a week of activities.I opened and closed the case many times every day to either put in or take out a photo to store or get signed. Eventually one of the little plastic bits that the side clasps on to broke, but since there's 4 total, missing one didn't cause a big issue and the case still opened and closed just fine.So while these aren't made of grade-A steel or something, I feel they're sturdy enough for all but some really rough use. The cases I used survived that week-long convention, and I plan to use them again next time. They kept everything safe and secure and pristine. Definitely was a good idea to have.

A palette with a lid for face painting!
This handy file case is improved over the older version: The hinges are larger & stronger. The first time I bought three of these cases was in Oregon about 15 years ago & they were marketed as "Pencil Boxes" so I had a little trouble finding them this time. But I don't use them for pencils; here is how I use them: For many years I have used a professional make-up line called WaterWorks which includes eye shadows & liners, blushes, make-up base & brushes. I remove the lids of the individual WaterWorks items (about 15 of them) & put them in this case along with my brushes, mascara, etc. & the cover of the case is then a lid for all of the small items so I don't have to screw lids on & off & I can easily see all the colors. When I am at home, I often keep this case without its lid in a drawer in the bathroom & my make-up items are ready to use when I open the drawer. Then when I am ready to hit the road, I snap the lid on (very easy to do)) and put the case in my carry on luggage - no packing up involved because everything I use on a daily basis is already in there. This handy file case is like having a palette with a lid for face painting! I'm sure there are many other uses for this handy item & I look forward to reading other reviews for some ideas from other shoppers.

What I was looking for, but warped. Easy fix.
The 3 pack of clear cases I bought were all warped (twisted); either from heat experience in shipping, or during manufacturing. Other than the warping, the cases were exactly what I was looking for size and materials-wise.I baked them in the oven at 200 degrees F for 30 min, and then pressed them underneath a cookie-tray with a stack of books on top until they cooled. Addressed the warping to around 95% of flat.

Nice item but....
Due to inadequate packaging ie a bubble wrap envelope they arrived with one completely broken on the corner. It isnt worth me bothering to return as it’s not worth the hassle, but threw the broken one away as large chunks of plastic crumbled off it. Otherwise the file cases are exactly as stated, the remaining 2 open/ close really well, and are clear enough to see through, it’s just a shame the packaging is so poor.

Great for pictures
These are great for pictures or documents. I just wish they were a little more sturdy.
