If you purchase or have a dial face probe thermometer this is a must have item. this guard screws onto the threads on the underside of the thermometer dial face. if you do not get one of these guards, you will end up either pushing or pulling on the thermometer dial face and this will bend the dial face to the point the hands will not move freely on the thermometer. considering the cost of the probe thermometer it is cheap price to save your thermometer from damage.

This handle is very strong. It protects your thermometer from every direction. It is extremely necessary when using the thermometer so you can push and pull on the handle, not the thermometer, therefore making your thermometer last longer. So simple to just screw on to the REOTEMP HEAVY DUTY COMPOST THERMOMETER. It is also handy because you can stand your thermometer up on a table or on the ground with this handle holding it in place-vertically, protecting the probe. I'm glad I spent the extra money on this, I was hesitant at first!

Very impressed with how heavy duty the probe handle is. It is big enough to get both hands on it to push the probe into the pile. And I guarantee you will never bend it!
