The Art of Work: A Proven Path to Discovering What You Were Meant to Do

An inspired and inspiring book
I unsubscribed from Jeff Goins some time ago after becoming the recipient of his tsunami of marketing emails. My mental image of him was akin to some televangelist with bad hair and pimples. Then a few days ago while on a shopping spree on Amazon I decided to buy his discounted book on a whim.To my surprise I found myself in possession of a well thought out, written and argued bookJeff puts a new spin on the notion of finding your calling. There are many books on this topic on the market, but The Art of Work argues that a calling is not a single or static entity, but one that evolves through a life well spent.Standing on the threshold of reaching the age of being “officially” old, I have spent much time pondering my calling, and whether I had missed it.With Jeff’s help I realize that my life has panned out exactly the way it was meant to, and I am now ready to tackle the next big thing that is calling me.Thank you, Jeff, for an intelligent, inspiring and inspired book!

There are other books out there that are better written and contain much more and useful information
This book could be summed up in about 5 pages. The majority (about 90%) is comprised of biographical examples of people who found success, which becomes redunant after the third chapter. There are other books out there that are better written and contain much more and useful information. You could do better watching a Ted talk. I don't like giving bad reviews but I really found this book and title very misleading.

Not what I expected
I was looking for something a bit more practical and guided. This isna collection of how other people found success, with various platitudes sprinkled in.

Exceeded my expectation
I had seen Jeff Goins book promotions when it initially launched and purchased the paperback book during the "launch". As with most marketing deals like that, the bonuses are worth more than the actual deal (the book).I procrastinated for ages because I rarely have a spare moment with young kids and running my business, so sitting down and reading a book on paper never happens.I saw the ebook with Audible upgrade and decided to then buy the audio version because recently I heard another respected person recomment Goins. In less than a week I listened to the entire book and was really impressed. Its well written in easy to digest segments and showcases how he clearly wrote parts on a daily basis. I founs myself thinking about the material after getting to my destination (usually listening during my commute).I shared a handful of quotes #jeffgoins and #theartofwork and definitely had moments of reflection on my calling and what it means (or takes) to pursue it in new ways.So yes, it exceeded my expectations and highly recommend.

Need a Mental Shift?
I didn’t know what to expect when I started this book. I’m already doing tons of business work and I don’t know why I took on something else.........I just know this book added to what I’ve already been experiencing. It gave me a way to look at my life in a different way. Yes, I’ve gotten off the path, life does that to ya, but I see myself in between the words on the page. I am one of the biggest portfolio people I’ve ever seen, but not all of the things I’ve done are things I should be doing, forever. But, I have learned from Jeff that it’s ok....This book has the potential to change the course you may have been on.............read it and find out!

You Can Succeed at Being a Writer and Jeff Goins Shows You How
I have read this book several times now and each time I find something new to focus on. Jeff Goins discusses how he learned how to make a living from writing after years of working in other professions and going through seven years of trial and error before he learned the recipe for writing success. Now he works from home, is a full time writer, presenter, teacher, husband, and parent, and yet he tirelessly shares his recipe with anyone willing to listen. This book gets me excited about writing and excited about sharing my message with others, and that's what a good book should do -- get the reader excited. I recommend this book to anyone who has thought about quitting their day job and making a living writing. It will inspire you and propel you forward.

There are some good ideas buried throughout
This book contains a variety of inspirational stories of people who discovered their callings in different ways, as well as summaries of ideas from other well-known authors. There are some good ideas buried throughout, but I do not recall any in-depth discussion of the art of work, and I did not learn a proven path for discovering one's calling. If the path was described in the chapter headings, the text did not illustrate how the path worked. The message I got was that you need to try different things, and one of these things may be your calling, but don't give up on any one thing too soon or too easily because the thing you give up on may be your true calling. In some respects the book was contradictory, judgmental, disorganized and lacking in depth. Perhaps this book is more helpful to people who are looking for encouragement to try something different and take some action, but if you have switched careers a couple of times already or read much of the existing self-help, career assessment, and inspirational literature, you may be disappointed with the content of this particular book.

Good guidelines for determining a path to your calling
Excellent book that speaks on how the mentality of work should be. There are several ideas in the book, a recurring one being that work is good when there is a goal to the work but a willingness to go through some suffering to get to the goal. The book does not tell you which work yours will be but will point you to considerations that should be taken as to how to determine what your life of work may be and how to determine what it is not. I didn't need this book personally but it is encouraging to see the different routes taken for some people to find fulfilling work, most of us which are not "I'm just talented." In any case, whatever it is, it takes work because it is work.

Beautiful & inspiring: a must-read
This is a beautifully-written book that redefines the "finding your purpose" sub-genre. At its essence, it's a book about self-ownership and living a more conscious, and therefore fulfilling, life.Jeff combines moving real-life stories with a fluff-free framework that encourage us to wake up and realise that a calling isn't something we just find, it's something we create. It's not an easy journey, it's rarely a clear journey, but it is available to all of us who are willing to see where the path ahead leads.A great book for anyone who wants a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in their lives, and for people who are already doing "their" work and want guidance and a hefty dose of inspiration.

This is the Kindle book I've highlighted the most!
The topic of the book is important to me and I found out about it when there was a special offer of getting the 'Art of Work' workbook when I bought this Kindle book. Together, these resources help see your life with a slightly different angle (the bigger picture and where you fit in it). Filled with statements that are common sense or learned from experience, but thought-provoking when applied to one's calling. Jeff Goins also helps identify certain pitfalls for the reader to avoid, certain of which anyone reading this book would find very tempting! With searching questions that help relate to YOU and many other helpful tips, the author really tries (and succeeds) to add value to the life of the reader.

It reads like a breathless gust of inspiration in the cadence of the words and the depth of their meaning.
A comforting and spiritual read that will allow writers to take courage in their future and unravel the past that they had before finding their way back to writing. Although it is organised thoughtfully, it reads like a breathless gust of inspiration in the cadence of the words and the depth of their meaning. I found the courage to publish this after reading Goins' work. Snugville Street: The Sun Reaps What the Rain Has SownSnugville Street: The Sun Reaps What the Rain Has Sown

A treasury
A book which is a treasury of lessons to use in life. What an ingenious writer Jeff Goins is in this generation. I am glad I got this book at last. I recommend his books to anyone trying to figure their calling in life.

I highlighted so many passages
So much wisdom from such a young bloke. It's almost unfair. Goins has laid out a lot of home truths in a straightforward manner. It really helped me see work in a different way. A bit late as I'm pushing 60 but welcome nonetheless. Every young person should read this. And old ones too.
