Make showers great again, use Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap
I tried this soap after having it recommended to me by some friends on the internet as an alternative to modern soaps filled with harsh chemicals and xenoestrogens. I've used this soap for over a month now and I'm very pleased with the results. To start of with, the soap comes in a simple cardboard box. No messy plastic packaging, just the box and the bar of soap inside. On the front is the logo with Grandpa's face on it, on the back is the history and story of the soap, and on the left side is a simple easy to understand list of ingredients. No mile long list of chemicals here. Through the box, you can smell the powerful, clean scent of pine tar. I currently have several bars of this soap in my towel closet and it has the added bonus of acting as a natural air freshener. Every time I open the door, I'm greeted by this smell. I very pleased by this powerful, masculine scent, which I've come to like much better than the standard fruity and floral scents of other soaps. The soap leaves a slight scent of pine tar on your skin, this wears off after an hour, two at most. The woody scent smells like barbecue, this combined with the rich brown color sometimes makes me hungry when I look at it. The soap lathers white, just like the box states. With just a bit of water and some rubbing, you get plenty of suds to wash yourself with, no sodium lauryl sulfate needed. The stamp on the soap wears off within 2 or 3 showers and the bar shrinks noticeably quickly. I highly recommend getting a soap holster and sticking it as far from the shower head as possible, this will minimize any accidental soap loss and it will keep the soap from leaving residue on the tub or shower stall. This soap works well as a shaving agent, and I'm now using it for all my shaving. The only problem I've had with this is a slimy residue left on my face, but I think that this may be from not continuously lathering it. The soap leaves my skin feeling taut and smooth after washing with it, afterwards it still as soft as it ever wash when I used other brands of soap. The back of the package states that this soap is not tested on animals. Well, I decided to do some animal testing of my own. My dog has a habit of rolling in the grass and I have a suspicion that the spots she rolls in are spots that animals have peed in. I washed her with the soap she had no problem with it. It left her fur fluffy and soft and she is rolling around slightly less than she was. I think that this is because the pine tar scent is more natural and not as overpowering to her nose than other soaps. This soap is not cheap, 4 dollars a bar or slightly less is about the best is price you're going get for this. Before I wrote this, I specifically counted the number of days I could make a bar last. The most I've gotten was about 2 1/2 weeks out of this in a combination with a soap holster, though a small person might get 3 with careful use. I am very satisfied by the soap itself, and I'm very pleased to be using old school, simple, made in America soap.

Deep Clean, Simple Ingredients — Love the Pine Tar Scent
This Grandpa Soap Company Pine Tar Bar Soap does a great job cleaning the skin thoroughly without feeling harsh. I like products with straightforward ingredients, and this one delivers. Why pine tar soap works well (in general): • Naturally cleansing and deodorizing • Helps remove oil and buildup effectively • Leaves skin feeling clean without heavy residue • Popular for people who prefer traditional, simple soaps The scent is definitely distinctive — some people may not be fans — but personally, I love the pine tar smell. It smells earthy, clean, and old-school in a good way. The bar also lasts well and works nicely as a 3-in-1 cleanser. Pros: • Cleans deeply • Simple, traditional ingredient profile • Long-lasting bar • Unique scent (great if you like pine tar) Cons: • Scent may be strong for some people Bottom line: If you like traditional soaps with simple ingredients and don’t mind (or enjoy) the pine tar scent, this is an excellent option.

Good
Really good soap with a great lather. It has a very strong smell on the shower rack, but no residual smell after use.

Worth the smell.
I've been using this soap for a few months now and it is the best soap i've ever used. I had read about how good pine tar soap is for your skin, curing and helping with many skin conditions among other things, so i decided to try some. I had had some sort of horrible "rash" or whatever,i'm not shure what it was,on my face, and i was afraid it was going to leave scars. For over a year i tried everything to get rid of it and nothing worked. I don't wear makeup or anything other than wash my face with soap. I was using an "all natural" soap that was really full of not so healthy things. I became concerned for my health and did alot of research. I had never realized that your skin absorbs the things you put on it as well as water. So all that not so healthy "all natural"soap was being absorbed into my skin. Thats when i found Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap. It wasn't full of those unhealthy ingredients and sounded great. So it arrived and i'm like `It smells like motor oil!`, so i didnt use it for a couple of weeks and still had that horrible rash on my face. Finally, i decided to get past the smell and use it. I liked it right away(besides the smell) it lathered up real nice, left my skin soft, cleaned really well, and didnt leave residue on your skin like some other soaps. You just feel light and clean and refreshed. That was worth it, to me, enough for the smell already. Then i noticed my rash was getting better. Then after about three weeks my rash was completely gone and left no scarring on my face, just clear smooth skin. That and it also cured a few other minor skin problems. That was months ago and i havent seen a single sign of that rash coming back, and i'm still using this soap. And after using the soap for a few months i have become use to the smell. It no longer smells like motor oil to me. It smells like a campfire in a pine forest, i actually like it now. Anyways, i never thought how important soap is for your health until now. Im never going back to that crap i use to use no matter how nice it smells, that is how they get you to buy it. So if your thinking about buying this soap then base your decision on health and not smell(although some people might like it). It was worth it for me. Please forgive my typing, my cat is trying to lay on my keyboard.

Smells terrible, not soothing for my skin flares
I was using Dr Squash pine tar and it was really calming for my problematic skin. I had to lather in hands as the "scrub" texture it has was not good for my skin. THIS is why I wanted to try another brand of pine tar soap that had no texturized ingredients. BUT let me say, when I opened the box this product came in, I was wondering what from the things inside had that terrible smell. I could not believe it was the soap! IT WAS SO STRONG that my living smelled like it. The only way I can describe the smell s like if you entered a very cheap shoe store that only sold plastic/rubber shoes (like cheap crocks) and they had a charcoal BBQ, a firewood chimney and a smoker on ALL at the same time. Husband and I hated the smell. I decided to give it a try. Maybe the healing ingredients will soothe my skin. Maybe the smell goes away when it lathers? NOPE. Now my bathroom smells like that. It's like I have a terrible scented candle on. To make it worse, it irritates my skin! Not nice at all. I purchase a multiple pack and wish I could return.

Old-school soap with a great pine scent
I originally bought this because I'm a fan of pine-scented soaps. For years I've used Duke Cannon's pine soaps, which are excellent, but the price has continued to climb to the point where I started looking for alternatives. This soap has a pleasant pine scent that reminds me why I like this style of soap in the first place. It smells clean, woodsy, and outdoorsy without smelling artificial or overpowering. It lathers well, rinses clean, and leaves me feeling clean without drying out my skin. Is it exactly the same as Duke Cannon? No. But it's also significantly less expensive, and for the money I think it offers very good value. If you enjoy pine-scented soaps and are looking for an alternative to some of the more expensive brands, this is worth trying.

Good Soap
It has an interesting scent. It is pretty strong and may not be for everyone. It creates a lot of lather probably more than any soap I've used. The one thing I bought it for was to keep down the bug bites when I work in the yard. I believe it is doing that since Im not itching as much after. I like the soap.

Cleanses without drying out the beard hair
I bought Grandpa's Pine Tar soap because I had read positive reviews and also George Bruno (a.k.a. The Sultan of Silver) whose opinion I trust recommended it on one of his beard related videos. From my experience, the soap has been fantastic on my beard. It truly cleanses and cleans my beard and my beard hair remains soft and has not become dry over the month or so of using the soap twice daily. It lathers well with a small amount applied on wet hands, and is easy to work through the beard hair as it becomes nice and slippery once a lather forms. This makes it easy to massage the skin under the beard, especially the chin and cheek areas. It rinses out very easily and my beard has a nice volume once dry. I've used it on my skin and head hair with success, and it makes hair squeaky clean. The bar seems to last quite well too. I also love the pine tar scent; it doesn’t linger at all for those who might be worried about the scent clashing with cologne etc. A great product in my opinion!
