THESE ARE NOT 1N34A. THEY ARE C5V6 5T!
Review written by the account holder's husband, for whom these were purchased.-----I bought these because I needed germanium diodes to act as RF detectors for a field strength meter I am building. I trusted the listing and the package as received, marked "1N34A", however after using a couple in the aforementioned project, it simply didn't work. I believe the diodes were not the main reason, however they were part of the problem, because they have a considerably higher forward voltage (0.760V) than the specification called for in the project (0.200V to 0.400V). I wound up scavenging my other electronics boards that I pulled from the trash at work to locate marginally better diodes with a forward voltage of 0.600V. After getting the project to work with other diodes, I inspected the casings of these diodes with an eye loupe and discovered the marking "C5V6" over the marking "5T". Upon research, this appears to be a ZENER diode in some listings, but regardless is specced to have a forward voltage of up to 0.900V, way too high.THESE ARE SILICON DIODES, NOT GERMANIUM!Of course, I used two of them. They're nonreturnable now. Hopefully I'll be able to use them in other projects.

more than expected
I ordered these, to build a crystal radio, just to show my daughter how you can receive radio signals without any power. I thought there was just one diode included, for the price. Imagine my surprise, when I opened the package, and found 20 of the things in the package.I have not used any of them yet, with so many projects in summer, I have been busy, but I don't expect to have any problems with the quality of this diode. In the past, I have never had problems with the 1N34 diodes. But with 20 of them, even if 1 or 2 of them didn't meet spec, or was shorted out, with me expecting just 1, and getting 20 of them, I am still impressed with them.I would not hesitate to order electronic parts from Amazon again. I don't think any of the electronics supply houses that I have used in the past could beat them on price or shipping speed.I don't build a lot anymore, but years ago, I did. I am a ham radio operator, and we used to build everything ourselves. Now, that is not done as much.

JUNK!! NOT described Correctly
These are NOT Germanium Diodes. They are Silicon Diodes. THEY Will NOT work as a Crystal Radio Detector!!

THESE ARE NOT 1N34a Germanium Diodes
These are silicon diodes with forward voltage at the characteristic 0.6vIf they were actually Germanium diodes the forward voltage would be around 0.3vThese are NOT appropriate as 1N34a substitutes.

Not Germanium. Worse than Si diodes...
Not germanium diodes.I have tested all of these. All 20 of these test in at around 0.765v dropped in diode test mode on my meter.Under simulated current of 20-50mA the results are worse. Measuring voltage across gives values in excess of 0.8v...I thought maybe one or two might be bad. No, it's all of them.I have other diodes that I got in bulk kits for cheaper that perform better than these. I will not be buying from this brand again.

Germanium? My ears say no.
I don't believe these are Germanium diodes. They may have similar specs, but if you're using these for audio distortion/saturation you will not get the Germanium sound. These sound like silicon to my ears. Very scream-y.If you want the real deal head over to Digikey and search for "NTE 1N34A."

NOT germanium
They're *NOT* germanium; they're "germanium compatible," i.e. silicon Schottkey diodes with a similar forward voltage to germanium diodes. It may not matter for your application, but if you were hoping to exploit some "germanium mojo" for a guitar pedal or something, this ain't it.

Not 1N34 Germanium diodes but silicon diodes
As others have stated, these are not 1N34 germanium diodes. Forward voltage drop is 0.7 which indicate they are silicon diodes. 1N34 or 34A would not be over 0.3 volts. The marking on the diode is unreadable even under magnification.
