I was skeptical about this book at first. I thought it was about a bunch of whiney kids that didn't know jack. The further into the story the more I connected with the characters, the more the real side of the book showed through. As someone who had such thoughts at a young age, I feel like the author was able to truthfully portray the difficulties of being "different" growing up.Seeing how this book was written in 2008 and still people are scared of who they are because of society is utterly abhorrent. For those who it pertains to, although you may feel like this point in your life is the worst and that you are all alone, please remember you aren't.

Jeff’s dark humor and sarcasm is amazing
I really liked this book it has some very valid points made by the main characters and pulls on your heart strings a little towards the end you build a connection to Jeff and emphasize with how he feels I do not condone the authors incorporation of lgbtq references and experience I myself am asexual and lesbian but one of the characters and many chapters where very problematic to me and kind of ruined my experience

So many important themes, anyone can relate to! Quick read that any teen/young adult will identify with.
Suicide Notes was a read forced upon me for a YA lit course I'm taking this semester at NCSU. I have never been so happy about an assigned reading in my life. This read was sooo fast, I read all 300 pages in two nights, but had I not had an early morning class the next day, I could have easily done it in one night. Four hours is my total investment in the book, I forced myself to quit reading on day one just so I could have something to look forward to the next day. It is a must read! This book first off is not intended for super young kids (I'd recommend anyone in high school or college is probably the best audience). There is a bit of language (5+ uses of "f" and a few "gd" and a few others). Another thing to keep in mind is the subject matter is dark, being about a kid who attempted to commit suicide. The basic storyline is kid wakes up in a hospital's psyc ward, but doesn't think he belongs (despite having wrist slashes to say otherwise). Every chapter is another day of his 45 day sentence as he has daily sessions in therapy and begins to develop relationships with the four or five kids with him. Through these kids, Jeff is able to learn from his mistake and begin thinking about making some healthy changes in his life and working through some feelings that every teen has from time to time. This read is so important, and should be required for students 9th grade or above, simply because Michael somehow manages to get in almost every theme you can think of in reference to dealing with life as a growing teen. He talks about substance abuse, suicidal tendencies, sexual awakenings and trying to find one's identity, all major issues in today's teens. This book is powerful and hits home especially if you have a friend who is facing suicidal thoughts, or trying to find themselves. Heck, maybe you're trying to find yourself, and this book will help you see that things have a way to work out in the end with a little perseverance. It is a book that starts off sort of dark, but then develops into something very emotional and witty. Ford did a fantastic job, because even if you don't identify with Jeff, you will find some theme somewhere in this book that hits home, there are so many, heck I could easily name 10 right here but some may be spoilers so I won't. Anyway, if you're going through a hard time, read it, it will pick you up. If you have a friend going through something, read it, it will help shed light on things. Also, if your a teenager in general, read it to understand that there are other people going through the same phase you are and find themselves completely lost like every teen feels at some point. Or maybe you're like myself and are a 21 year old kid who just loves a easy read that you actually walk away from feeling inspired. No matter who you are, there is something in this book you can get out.READ THIS BOOK! I didn't want to read it but after I did, I'm putting it in my top 10 :) (this is significant considering I read at least one novel a week)

Good Read
Hard subject to read in this book... I don't know what to really think of this book to be honest, the problems are real in this whole book even if it's fiction which some of the events did happen to the author. I can relate some in this book but can't relate to Jeff's secret. I understand it's just I don't know how his feelings or others feel because like I said I'm not in anyone's mind or home life so even though rumors are started about people or people do see something and start spreading it around... I can see where depression would start and spiral down especially now with all the social media going on all day everyday. Where I can relate in this book is I have to many people in my life who have committed suicide.. family members, friends and a best friend the sad thing is I saw two of them the night before and never knew anything because they just acted the way they always did, so how do you process that well you just do...there will always be the why from parents to friends you can't drive yourself bat crazy about it, because in the end they're the ones who chose that route when there is help everywhere. Jeff did get on my nerves a little using humor and sarcastic to try to get out of telling how he feels and why he tried to kill his self. I will say this book is good in ways for some people and may not be good for others, so please know if you are offended at some words then this book might not be for you. I was glad to see Michael put in Questions and Answers at the end and a resource for help if anyone needs it, but I would like to have seen also the Suicide Prevention Hotline too not saying THE TREVORPROJECtT.ORG can't do the same thing just would like to have seen more channels for people.. Recommend for people who might be in Jeff's situation and are keeping secrets of your own as well as family, friends love and loss.. Gina Clabo

Beautiful and meaningful
This is a beautiful, meaningful and deeply written book. It covers lots of real life struggles and self battles. This book is quite mature so I would say it’s more appropriate for an 18+ audience but it is very well written!

Amazing Book
I bought this book for my daughter and she has been so thrilled with this novel. At first, I was sceptical because of the title and was slightly worried about what she may be exposed to, however she was amazed by the novel and has looked into new things by Michael Thomas Ford. She tells me that the story is extremely captivating and is about a boy called Jeff who awakens in a psych ward and is put onto a 45 day programme where he unveiled what happened to him and why he did what he did to end himself there. She also mentioned that it was actually a very funny book and isn't really another book that is stereotypically about a mental health patient.

Found another for my favorites shelf :-)
If you haven't read this book yet do it ASAP! This is just perfect story and although you won't guess that from the title it's extremely hilarious! (Don't read in public.)Oh, and LGBTQ fans won't be disappointed ;-)

Lingers in the mind long after its pages are closed!
Cheesy title? Pfft, trust me, all that cheese is warranted completely. This book was, in a word, un-put-downable. No I do not care that that is neither a real word nor spelled entirely correctly, but there you go. I ordered it on Monday, and it arrived this afternoon (Wednesday)- I started reading it after dinner, and literally could not put it down until I'd finished it. Utterly gripping, funny, witty, clever...insert appraising adjective here. If you enjoyed the wry humour of Catcher In The Rye and fancy the same thoughtfulness as in Chobosky's Perks of Being a Wallflower, this is the book for you!
