The American Mustang Guidebook: History, Behavior, and State-By-State Directions on Where to Best View America's Wild Horses

Love this book. Just adopted my own mustang and I learned a lot from this book.

The best book on this subject on the market!!

We're considering picking this up. Something to note though is that the BLM has zeroed out many herds and put them into long term holding so there may not be horses where she says there are anymore. If you get the chance to see these magnificent animals in the wild though, DO IT. It is an experience that you will never, ever forget. I just got back from visiting the Sand Wash Basin horses in Colorado and I will remain awed by the experience for years to come.

This didn't provide all the information I was hoping it would. I wanted descriptions of the colors and markings.

Don't know much about America's wild horses? Well this is a good place to start. This is a nice book about where to find the wild herds in the states, the terrain they live in, who oversees them, what they look like, plus other characteristics. Though the book is well over a decade old, it still holds true when tracing the whereabouts of what states have wild horses, including the eastern states in the USA. Most of the wild herds in the United States are managed by the Forest Service or mainly the Bureau of Land Management, in some cases, especially on the island herds, the National Park Service. The BLM has obliterated some of these herds mentioned in the book, or seriously weeded the numbers out. On the flipside some herds numbers have gotten bigger, like the Virginia Range outside Reno and Carson City, Nevada. There are some wild horse herds that are not covered in the book, like the Yakima wild horses in Washington state and a few others, but it will bring to light for you, if you are a wild horse enthusiast the basics for finding out about these magnificent creatures and starting your wild horses adventures! Good guidebook!

This is a great book for anyone wishing to adopt a mustang or view them in their natural habit as it has state by state guides on where to find them.My only negative is that all the photos of these beautiful animals are in black & white when the author specifically mentions colour variations in relation to the photos of the horses.
