A Valuable Book for Managers and Leaders
I first heard about "Radical Candor" during my government agency's annual training conference, a conference that included a workshop based upon "Radical Candor" led by our HR director. While I hadn't heard of the book, I fell in love with the ideas behind it and upon my return home set out to pick up the book for myself. "Radical Candor" has easily become one of my favorite books of the past year, a terrific option for those who are challenged by difficult conversations and who want to grow in leadership. While "Radical Candor" is likely most applicable to those in management or leadership positions, I've found the book really has been of tremendous benefit in my personal life. Within weeks of reading the book, I found myself in a challenging situation dealing with a healthcare provider and took much of what I learned from the book to resolve the situation positively and to work through a potentially negative situation. I displayed a side of myself I didn't really know and was rather awestruck by the positive results. Since reading the book, I've actually been promoted into a supervisory position and am now seeing the ways in which the book complements my existing leadership skills and management style. Truly, "Radical Candor" remains one of my favorite books from the past year and I've seen positive growth both personally and professionally resulting from author Kim Scott's intelligent, informed and sensitively written guidance.

Bought this for manager book club. A bit wordy, but has principles that we'll use long term.

But wait, there's more!
The book ended 3/4 of the way through the audiobook files, then continued on, deep-diving into some of the parts of the book. It may seem hard to put all this wisdom into practice, but if you care at all about people in the workplace -- as you should -- it's worth it.

From Apple and Google leadership styles to getting the most out of your team...A framework to success from caring and candor.
Kim has taken the leadership styles from her startup days and major companies like Apple and Google and combined her expertise into an easy to follow step by step guide to leading people. Kim's storytelling ability really allows the reader to remember the lessons that formed the heart of the Radical Candor philosophy, from her "Um" story at Google, to teaching her team to directly challenge the status quo in Japan, to drinking vodka in Russia. I've always wanted to be a good boss that can achieve great results, be empathetic, not be a jerk, or push my biases on to anyone else. Kim's guide on caring deeply about the people you work with, asking for criticism before giving it, and being candid with your direct reports is a framework any leader can follow for success. This isn't just a framework for leadership but a framework for getting the most out of your relationships both professionally and personally. If your human...you should read it.

Great book!
This book is really great! I've been listening to the Radical Candor podcast for the last few weeks, so have been getting a great preview of the information in this book from Kim Scott and Russ Laraway (I highly recommend the podcast too). I feel validated by the information about the importance of caring personally and I could do so much better in challenging directly. It's the hard part of the equation for me. I'm afraid of saying the wrong thing or damaging our relationship. Those fears give me an excuse to procrastinate indefinitely. The important message of this book is that if you care about the people you supervise, you will challenge them directly. It's your responsibility, but more importantly, it will help them much more than if you stay silent or only mention their positive qualities. There are many practical tips and great examples from Kim's career. I bought the audible.com and kindle editions on the first day the book was released. I listen to the audio version while driving or at home. I like the kindle edition because I can follow along the audio and highlight in the e-version. But, this book is so good that I also bought the paper edition.

Great for leaders
Scott’s book is thought provoking and I’m interested to try several of her tips. I’d also be interested to hear from others how effective (or ineffective/not applicable) they’ve found some of her recommendations. A lot of what she covers is good groundwork and solid reminders and I can imagine myself rereading it in the future as a check-in/check back to gauge how I think I’m doing.

Plenty of insights - very worthwhile
Really interesting insights into managing teams. Some of the examples are a little specific to be scalable to all situations, but very helpful all the same. First time in a while I've highlighted sections in a book to revisit!
