One-Shuttle Tatting

Not worth it
This book is terrible. I am an accomplished tatter and there are only 2 patterns in this book that kind of appealed to me, which is disappointing. The written instructions for the pattern I did were not written correctly. I don’t think anybody test tatted the written instructions because if they did, they would have realized how poorly written they were. The diagram isn’t that much help either. On top of that, I don’t think the author is very good tatter. The pictures of her work show uneven, non-uniform tatting which looks very sloppy. All in all, this book is not worth the price and I will be returning it.

Instructions not detailed enough
The instructions on how to tat are not detailed enough for a rank beginner. Pattern abbreviations are incompletely defined. For instance, RW stands for reverse work - but what does that mean. What exactly does one do to do that and why is it done. This is the type of I formation missing. The ideas for what to make are ok, it again, the instructions are lacking

How do I get the kindle Matchbook?
After ordering a new book from Amazon.com and looking forward to using the kindle version on my phone when I'm away from home, I'm only being offered the kindle book for $9.99. Is there any way of doing this without returning the book and starting over? The book itself has a lot of ideas for using a single shuttle to tat patterns of rings and picots (no chains) and is easy enough for a beginner. Flowers, edgings, motifs, all with hand-drawn patterns and written instructions.I find tatting hard to follow with written instructions only. My suggestion is to use Youtube.com for the movements. Zoom in and slow the videos, repeating until you have it down. Those videos never lose patience or get bored.

Great addition to library--rings only patterns
ALL NEW PATTERNS. If you like rings only and single shuttle/ball patterns, don't miss this book! Beautiful color pages and binding. Patterns are well documented in modern notation. Book opens to lay flat, gorgeous quality.

Great book for beginners
My father used to talk about his family tatting to earn extra money back in the 1940s and 50s. I decided I wanted to give it a try, and this book is helping me figure it out.

Good refresher
I’m refreshing myself on tatting after having learned several years ago. This was a great refresher. Clear diagrams, and writing. Colorful.

Good little book
Very good book, nice patterns described. I had a little difficulty following some instructions, so resorted to YouTube to get started, but now am following patterns nicely.

Disappointing
The spiral spine is the best thing about this book. The patterns are pretty boring and the instructions aren't clear. The photos of finished items don't show particularly good technique by whoever did them. All in all, very disappointing.

Read the book first rather than getting tied up in knots
It would be better in sheets than in book form reason for this is where there's a pattern it can be repeated where if its stuck in book form it's harder to copy personally I found it frustrating to pin back a page and have both hands doing the tatting and reading a book at the same time
