Nickel B Flat Generation

Really impressed with this! First of all, it arrived a day before it was scheduled to (which is AWESOME because I was aching to play tunes), and I opened it and was immediately impressed with the lovely tone of this Bb! I’ve been playing basically only on D whistles (high and low, metal and wood) for the last 4 years and this is the first new key I’ve purchased. It’s so much fun! Really allows you to open up what you can play. For the price and quality, it’s really awesome! My lowest note is a bit finicky (it may just be needing to get used to the whistle, or I may need to tweak the head joint) but the clarity of sound for the rest of the notes, even into the second register is really, dare I say, beautiful. The resonance is clear and bell like. Generation is actually a very small company in England. These are definitely made well and sold for a seriously great price!! Highly recommend for a beginner or someone who’s played for a long time. Great “lower” whistle for someone like me with smaller hands too👍

My Bb whistle came nicely packaged and in-tune for the most part. I notice a couple little burrs on the mouthpiece but I removed those easily with a nail file. Tone is lovely with a good volume in the first octave, but the second octave is a little scratchy - slightly better after warming the whistle up, but not great. This is only the first time with it out of the box, so perhaps the whistle is taking time to adjust to the temperature of my apartment. Hey, I’d be jet-lagged too if I flew in, or was driven to Vermont from Minnesota in a small, cramped cardboard poster tube.

It's much more affordable than other Bb whistles. Though it's not perfect, it's great as a starter/practice Bb whistle. It is light to carry as well as easy to learn. I'm 5' tall with small hands and it was difficult transitioning from the High D whistle to the Bb one, but after about a month of playing and adjusting my finger placement appropriately, I was able to play tunes just as well as I would on the High D (I can now play the low G whistle with no problem!). Definitely a good Bb whistle to start with.

It is what it is. Your basic penny whistle and penny whistle tone. These are the standouts of the musical instrument world, in that the first instrument that you can afford is like as not the only instrument you'll need. Sure, if you shop around you can find a place to drop two hundred bucks on a penny whistle, but ten bucks will still get you to Galway and as long as YOU can play there will be no complaints. A wee technical bit; the Bb is the lowest of the "high" whistles, and it is a stretch. Smaller fingers will have to use chanter fingering -- basically rotate the hands down and use more of the pads. It is big enough to be heavy, too; a trick I picked up from a YouTuber is to use pinkie fingers as a brace so you can go over the top (all fingers off) without dropping it. The tone is breathy and piercing from the low end of the second octave up -- I may try another trick I've heard of and narrow the fipple slot with a bit of tape. Came by Royal Mail rattling around all by its lonesome in a large cardboard mailing tube. No damage visible. In a way that almost sums it up.

No tweaks necessary. Simply a wonderful Bb whistle. Quality has been high at generation for years.

I am a low whistle player who wanted to play a song on a high Eb whistle. This was wonderful. May not hit all of the four octaves that the $400+ ones will hit, but this was good enough for me.
