Good potential wasted on pacing
The manga is an adaptation of a light novel. There is a lot of potential in the story. It's not the usual "stupid main character" troupe. While the M/C is over powered, that is not an immediate reason to throw a story out. What this manga lacks is story telling. It is as if the mangaka wanted to get to a certain point in the story and just skipped parts or glossed over events that deserved richer treatment. The only hope is that this volume was just a setup for the next volume and the story telling starts there.

Gritty, dark, a harsh world
I almost skipped over this manga, thinking it would be a typical "Protagonist pulled into alternate reality, proceeds to be over powered" but it's not quite so simple. Even with the common elements of an alternate reality that seems weirdly like a video game, with the characters having stats and being able to level up, this story took a surprising and harsh, dark turn for our protagonist, and the other reviews had me interested. Definitely going to keep with this to see how it further develops.

Good start
I have noticed that some of reviews are decrying the fact that manga glosses over many of the information presented in the light novel but I personally don't see an issue with this. Manga is a visual medium and I believe this is a great interpretation of the original work.

Crazy amount of action
Well this one took off right out of the gate with an insane amount of action, and drama. Doubt it can keep that level of action up, but they have a lot of room for character/world building to do still so I don't think that will be an issue.

A potentially good start to an isekai series.
The first manga has a lot of potential. A standard take on the isekai genre, but way more brutal to the protagonist to begin with. He starts off with relatively weak powers compared to his classmates and is pushed into a survival situation. He comes close to dying and gets an arm ripped off. It was pretty compelling and I enjoyed the RPGlit aspect as he cataloged his abilities. The manga felt short but made me pre-order the second.

Interesting
Not at all what I was expecting. Really liked the art style. Different from what I'm used to seeing in the manga I typically read. Story gets brutal about halfway through. Don't normally read shounen type manga but I might continue reading this one.

Good start to a series
I liked how the character wasn't some OP MC at first, but my only concern is he might become that way. I however am going to jump into vol 2, it was a good read, and a good return into manga

Poorly paced
The entire story is too rushed. It quickly moves from fight to fight and doesn't focus enough on character development outside of battle. Even each fight feels rushed. The over all result is a manga that feels like a training montage instead if a real story.Even so, the art is good if a bit busy and what story is present seems interesting. It could be a very pleasant read if it would just take more time to give weight to what happens.

The story is 5 stars, but the manga has some issues comparatively
The drawing style of the drawer-artist is very very good. However, the story in the manga is a condensed version of the original story. Normally when this condensing happens to a light novel, its fine - but Shirakome's writing style is particularly terse, so it is already condensed. This means that if e.g. Maruyama wrote the novel, each novel would become two novels. As such, condensing an already condensed work results in too much loss. If anything, when converting this particular author's work to Mange/Anime, you need to expand and fill information in.For example, the book gives a summary of how when Kouki and the others get back to the palace, the nobles are relieved it was the useless one that died, and Kouki gets mad at them for this, which leads the pope and king to quietly push the policy of not talking about the incident in this manner onto their nobles (and their reasoning for this), and how this leads the nobles to believe that Kouki is a kind, just, noble person. The paragraph is short, but drawing that would take many panels - unless they had a character talking expositionally about it. However, what happens in this manga, is that this is trimmed out completely... even worse, even though the book is told from two perspectives (Hajime's and Kouki's), this manga (and the following one) are told solely from Hajime's perspective. The speech bubbles are heavily abridged compared to what they say in the book... and key words in the overly short sentences are in bold. This would make sense if the reader was 5 years old perhaps, but its rather jarring to read otherwise. e.g. writing is like "The CAT sat on the MAT. I want to PET it. This cat is FLUFFY".The re-mangling of key scenes from the book also leaves a mistaken impression on what takes place. The author writes in the original work that they go from an altar room to a room with a large table, then the author infers social status based on where people sit, then the author mentions what occurred (past tense) to induce the frightened (important to convey this) people to move to the next room, then the author returns to the present. Although in anime you could leave things in this order with past-exposition, in a manga I think you need to iron it out into chronological order. Instead, the work uses a re-imagined scene which does not convey what is happening very well.Additionally, what happens at this point in the book is an old-guy gives an info-dump, but the author does not write the info-dump, he has the protagonist give an internal monologue which condenses what the old guy is saying, along with his own observations of how he thinks the old guy is slyly trying to manipulate them. But the manga just has the old guy giving an abbreviated info dump, and it doesn't quite flow the same.Overall, the drawing is great, but the way the story is wove into a manga is not great at all... but because its very tricky to do it because of the terse source material, I don't want to review it too badly
