Disc Pendant - Whirlpool - Chew Necklace for Sensory, Oral Motor, Anxiety, Autism, ADHD

My 7 year old is a sensory seeker and needs to chew. She would chew on toys and swallow the pieces. We are unable to prevent this behavior. She had no interest in the plain thin chewing necklaces- she wanted to chew into something stronger. The thick T chewy tubes were effective, but she would toss them when she was bored. We spent many hours (and money) trying to find a solution. Her grandmother was distraught and put together a chewing necklace plus a large X shaped tube for her to wear. The homemade chewing necklace was huge and would have immediately drawn unwanted attention at her public elementary school. We were desperate to find anything that would work. This necklace was ideal. Some reviewers complain about the thickness- this should not be the choice for your first chewing necklace, there are thinner pendants. Chewigems makes a cute one shaped like a cat's face, but my daughter eventually chewed it down which is why I bought this necklace. This pendant is for heavy duty chewers. My mother put a small hole near the neckline of my daughter's shirt and threads the necklace through the hole so she can't lift it over her head and toss it. Or I thread it through the strap of her undershirt. It's always available to her during the school day. She hasn't bitten through the pendant. And it's cute enough to look like a kids jewelry pendant. After the success with the first one, I bought 4 more Chewigem pendants in other colors to match her outfits. These have worked well for months. The only problem is that she chews through the cord and on the plastic clasps quickly. I bought 1.9mm parachute cord (used in crafts) and substitute it for the manufacture's cord.

I purchased this item for my ADHD child to take with her to school and prevent biting her nails. It definitely works and is very cute to hang around your neck. My daughter (and I) absolutely love the swirl pattern! The cord is silky smooth black and does not tug or pull on hair. It's also easy to keep clean - just wash it in the sink and it's good to go for another day. She doesn't wear it every day but she hasn't lost it yet which is a good sign. I recommend this product for young children (ages 4-10) who need help with distractions in the class room.

My 8 year old is a sensory-seeking ADHD kid - heavy chewer at school. We got her this disc pendant Chewigem necklace, which has been working great to stop hair and clothing chewing at school. However, I did end up cutting a section off the bottom because after a month it was breaking apart from all the chewing. It works again, but I anticipate I will be have to repeat the process in a few more weeks so I'm looking into other chew necklaces. (A side note: we also bought the heart version Chewigem necklace - she chewed through it in a week.)

This is exactly what we needed! It's even more durable than the picture shows. My son has oral sensory, anxiety, and is easily frustrated. He also has autism and severe ADHD.. He's constantly chewing on his shirts and it ruins them. This item is perfect for him! I know it will help keep him focused at school and calm him down. With this, he now has something to help keep him grounded. I am very pleased with this product and I highly recommend it to anyone with any kind of sensory issues; especially oral, ADHD, autism spectrum, anxiety, nail biters, clothes chewers, kids who talk too much in school, anyone who generally needs comforting or calming, thumb suckers, and even for breaking a pacifier habit. i love the products chewy part safe all is good the string for my Autism child she was able to slide the string out of the ring and it would drop on the floor... the others work better because string is permanently attached on chewy part. Safe products

So far my son loves it. He took it to school this week. We will have to get him one for home use since he might leave it behind at school. The necklace is just the right size for him also.

My kid loves this. Chewing on it helps her deal with stress at school. It's thick and tough enough to be strudy but still has a nice "give" as the tooth hits it. It looks attractive too.
