Disappointed in foul language
This could have been a really good love story, but the vulgar language just ruined it for me. There were so many “f” bombs in the dialogue that the sentences just lost their meaning. How many young men who run a business use such vulgar language around everyone, even his former mother-in-law? Not a fan.

looking forward to more
I haven't read much of Quinn's newer books lately. So, when the opportunity to read this one, I jumped on it. I am a sucker for small town stories.I jumped right into this book, hooked from the start. The book starts with a drunken night that left me chuckling. It leads into some fun and some heartbreaking moments. All of the inbetween kept me turning the pages.I enjoyed all of the characters in this book. Ren and Griffin's story has a little bit of everything in it. There are some funny times, some sweet times, some sexy times, some heartbreaking times... My drawback with the characters is Ren. I felt for a character her age, her over-reactions were a bit much, immature. I wasn't feeling some of her responses to certain situations. While I was excited for that ah-ha moment for Griffin in this book, it didn't leave me with what I had hoped for. It felt a bit cheesey, rushed, and forced. It was like, "oh, duh, why didn't I think of that" and everything was all of a sudden right with the world. I needed it to be a bit more of a complex discovery at that moment.Overall, I enjoyed this book. I am most certainly looking forward to the upcoming books in this series. I can't wait to see what is in store for the other brothers.

That second chance
I would not recommend this book to any one. The languish was enough to turn me off. Most unnecessary!Bad

A Curse Can't Hold Back Love for the Hot and Handsome Griffin Knightly
A love letter to her fans, Quinn sets up a fantastic new series with a slow burn and tender courtship set in the beautiful fictional town of Port Snow. LOVE THIS STORY! This second chance standalone is a must read all of Quinn’s fans and if she’s new to you, this is a brilliant place to start.A drunken celebratory night between brothers opens to a new universe, in the sleepy Maine town of Port Snow, where every heartache, every secret, and every meal is shared with family and neighbors. I want to know every detail, so much more of every character, and I can’t wait for more books.Sexy firefighter, volunteer, and heartbroken Griffin meets the pretty damn fearless Ren, a skittish school teacher who’s a new comer to town. Their meeting is such a surprise, and it’s told with such great humor and hell yes ROMANCE. GAH! I couldn’t put this book down. I LOVED IT! And the sexy times, let’s not forget about those. This is a Quinn romance after all.A small note about the culinary subplot. I cannot get enough of the Knightly fudge and those brothers. Port Snow is a special place, where the auto body shop hots wine and cheese mixers. :) And the Knightly Brothers' complete devotion to their small Maine town. I will definitely reread this charming story. If you want a loving sweet, adult contemporary romance with real people sorting through life’s complexities and falling for each other in the process, paired with an idyllic setting, THAT SECOND CHANCE IS a delicious, fun family story.KC Caron

"All the time we spent together, I was falling harder for you every minute."
I love everything about this book!! From the sweet romance between Ren and Griffin, to the witty banter between Griffin and his brothers, to the beautiful and peaceful depiction of the quaint coastal Maine town which is the setting for the book. Meghan Quinn is a masterful storyteller and with every word she has written, you are invited into a magical story of love, hope and second chances.Griffin and his brothers are convinced that the curse cast upon them by the New Orleans palm reader has brought them bad luck in the dating world. He was content with being alone and didn’t think he would meet someone who could change his mind. As a volunteer fireman he is often involved in dangerous situations and when a crazy moose caused a car accident, he was there to save the day. He rescued the beautiful Ren and bravely carried her to safety. Even though they had an instant attraction, Griffin wasn’t sure he could take a chance on a relationship with Ren because he was afraid something bad would happen to her.Ren felt the same way about Griffin and wanted to get to know him better, but he seemed to want to keep her in the friend zone. She sensed he was interested in her too, so she decided to make the first move. What could possibly happen? Moving to Maine was the beginning of the next chapter in her life, and she hoped Griffin was on the same page.

I loved this book!!
I loved this book HARD! Meghan Quinn is a queen of rom-coms and I loved every second of this one.Let me start with the town of Port Snow, Maine. I will admit, I am biased when it comes to Maine because that it is on my bucket list of places I want to see before I die. This author describes this town and its people beautifully and colorfully and I loved every minute of it.This book had me from the prologue, which I loved. It introduces you to all the Knightly brothers and it is a unique way to start a story. The Knightly family owns a fudge shop (A FUDGE SHOP!) in this quaint little town and is run by Griffin Knightly and all of his siblings. The interaction between all the brothers and their sister and the townspeople was just the best and had me laughing out loud! The story really gets going with a suicidal moose and if that isn't enough to intrigue you, what is? I can't stress enough how funny this book is in parts, but also has great heart and family at its core. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series and get to know the rest of Clan Knightly better!

A perfect, charming slow burn, small-town romance!
Having read quite a few of Meghan’s books, I have learnt that I am yet to find one I haven’t loved. Travelling to the idyllic New England town of Port Snow for a small-town romance was the best adventure this weekend and I can feel this series is going to be another favourite.Griffin is the eldest son of Port Snow’s famous Knightly family. With an older sister and three younger brothers, he is the golden boy of the town. When him and his brothers travel to New Orleans for a birthday celebration, they are struck with a love curse, something they all find ridiculous until they return home and tragedy strikes. Two years later, Griffin has thrown himself into everything he can in town to keep himself busy and not get caught up in his thoughts. Working in his family’s fudge and gift shop and being a volunteer firefighter is only a few things he’s a part of, but ever since that trip, love has not been on the cards for any for the Knightly boys. Until Ren Winters crashes into town, quite literally, and throws Griffin for a loop, making him question everything. Ren has moved across the country for a fresh start, taking a teaching position at the school, and fell in love with the charm of Port Snow instantly. What she didn’t expect was to fall in love with a local too, but as she spends more time with Griffin and begins to make Port Snow her home, her feelings quickly develop. But will Griffin let the past dictate his future? Will the love curse ever be broken?Griffin and Ren were so sweet. Honestly, they’re chemistry was through the roof and they lit the pages of my book on fire. But what I loved how Ren helped heal Griffin. This book gave me so many feels, at times I went into full body sweats and my chest literally ached. They built a solid friendship first, getting to know one another, but they were drawn to one another constantly, and with the help of the nosy small-town residents and Knightly family, they had no choice but to explore their feelings.Ren was trying to find her independence and her fresh start meant that she didn’t know Griffin’s history, meaning they could have a clean slate for the start of their relationship. She fell quickly for Griffin’s kindness and love for his family and town, but once she learnt of his past, knew she would have to tread carefully to be let into his heart.Griffin had been hurt greatly, and blamed himself for the event, and almost had promised himself that he would never love again to keep people safe. He bought into the curse, and let it impact his daily life, but when Ren arrives, he begins to question whether his actions have been right. She showed him how to open his heart again and heal, allowing him to lean on her and find happiness again. The secondary characters, the rest of Knightly family and the towns folk are perfect and round out the story. The meddling, the embarrassment, the rumours just make it so great. But the brothers are hilarious. They are all so different, they balance each other out perfectly and their banter is just brilliant. Meghan is known for writing fabulous comedy in her books and these Knightly brothers were not an exception. Griffin is the protector, Rogan is the tortured broody one, Reid is lost, and Brig is the hopeless romantic. I am so ready for all of their stories; I know I will fall for each of them in a different way.The ending is the perfect set up for Rogan’s story next, he intrigued me all the way through this book because he had a darker side which the other brothers didn’t have. I could tell his past lived with him very day, and the return of someone who used to be important in his life at the end is bound to throw him off and be a rollercoaster of a read, which I can’t wait to start!Overall, That Second Chance is the perfect, charming, slow burn, small-town romance, with heart aching moments, a love curse, sweet and steamy scenes but a whole lot of healing and love. I would definitely recommend this book!

Misleading blurb
The blurb here insinuates that the curse has a big effect on his dating life, it literally says he could kiss his dating life goodbye. What it fails to say is he was actually a married man when the curse happens and his wife dies a week later and he has no interest in any other woman in the 2 years since as he's grieving. Had I known ahead of time I probably wouldn't have picked this up. Given when we first meet our hero in present day, the first thing he does when he wakes up is look at the empty spot where his wife should be in bed i knew I was going to hurt for the heroine. If it wasn't for Ren being hilarious I would have returned the book there and then. She is the only reason why I continued reading but to be honest I wish I hadn't. Griffin has no place being in a relationship with anyone. We the reader and the heroine are bashed over the head repeatedly about how much Griffin loved his wife, how amazing a couple they where, how adorable, how they where the 'it' couple, how she was the love of his life. Hell the hero is constantly comparing Ren to Claire (the wife). You know its not good when you're rooting for the heroine to date someone else. At 65% when Claire is once again brought up I actually shouted out "this bloody woman!", her presence is constant all the way up to their supposed HEA. As sweet as Griffin was he is no where near over his wife and Ren deserved so much better than to live in the shadow of a dead woman. She was just too ok with everything and became a doormat, I mean he treated her like trash for weeks at the end and he just shows up on the door says I love you and that's that. He doesn't have to work for it at all. The fact that Ren moved into the house he shared with his wife bothered me greatly, his brother is a realtor.... have a fresh start. But that's right, he couldn't part with everything but got a new bed so that's ok 🙄. Jeez even in the epilogue when it's setting up Rogans book the hero says to the heroine "they where high school sweethearts like me and Claire", WE FREAKING KNOW ALREADY. Ren honey, go find Jake and get yourself a man who you won't forever come 2nd place to. The reviews for the 2nd book say its not as 'light' as this book, not sure what anyone else was reading but this was far from a light read. Not sure if I'll continue the series after this.

Lovely small-town romance w/ the bonus of great family dynamics!
First of all, thanks to the Kindle ads for continuously shoving this cover on my face whenever I turned my Kindle off! Can I be honest and say that I bought this solely for the model on the cover? Haha And I have no regrets buying it!This is a perfect light and fluffy romantic comedy that had me laughing out loud several times! Although I was initially wary about the 'love curse', I'm glad that I kept on with it because it was exactly what I was looking for! The story is told through alternating POVs between Griffin and Ren and I really liked both of their characters. They have an almost immediate connection but thanks to Griffin's wariness, they build a strong friendship before anything romantic happens. Their banter was so cute and sweet and gave me all the warm fuzzies (like stupid grin on face and giggles fuzzies). The build up in sexual tension was also great. There are some steamy scenes but the more explicit ones are minimal (I think there are two). The best part of the book for me was the Knightly family though; especially the relationship between the four brothers who were all so sweet and funny. It was so refreshing to see how they all wore their hearts on their sleeves and how supportive and invested they were of Griffin's love life (enough to meddle and boy, did they ever! It was too funny). They were genuinely good guys! Can I also say how cute and picturesque this town sounds? What with an adorable gift shop, pastel colored decorations dotting the town, and a lighthouse amongst other small-town landmarks? I love stories that involve small towns and this one basically had me wanting to move there myself!I'm really looking forward to the reading the rest of the series and seeing how all the brothers defeat the 'love curse'. I'm particularly excited about Rogan because he's the brooding brother (weakness!) and I'm so curious to learn more about his back story!

Meh
Maybe it's the new series thing, but this book was a bit boring. I was desperately searching for that classic humor Quinn brings to her books but couldn't find it. The premise of the story is good and the set up for future books is there, but I skipped the whole middle section of this book because it was so slow moving and uninteresting! It won't stop me from trying the next book in the series though. I am hoping it will pick up now we know all the details of the town/family/curse!
