Powerful Little External CD Drive--Works Great for CD Rips
I've only had it for a few hours, but I've been able to rip about 30 CDs so far, which is most of my collection. I didn't even need the software disc it came with, just plugged the cord into the external CD drive, plugged the USB into the USB port my laptop, and popped in my own CDs. It started right up with Windows Media Player. I configured a few settings in WMP (rip automatically and eject after ripping) and soon had a good little system going. Very easy.I'd say the only downsides so far is that after about 10 CD discs, it makes a really loud whirring noise, so for ripping CDs you should definitely plan to give this thing a break after awhile. It also takes about 3-5 minutes per CD to rip. I'm not sure if that's a long time or not, but it was fine with me.This external drive seems like it would be very portable for watching DVDs on the go, but I didn't really buy it for that, so I don't know if I'll ever test that theory. It does play DVDs, though. I'll see how it does for burning CDs later, since I have a few albums I need to burn to new CDs.Again, it's been less than 24 hours since the package with this drive got here. But I've been very impressed with it so far. 30 CD rips, rather seamlessly. Much better than the random no-name brand I had a couple years ago. I'll update this if anything changes.

So far it's good on old windows OS...
Ok I finally got around to plugging this into an old laptop running windows 7 but did not work until I downloaded the VLC media player. This got a DVD running fine, but I only had a few minutes to test it out. Device seems good, but apparently when using the VLC downloaded program you need to keep the volume down not too high or you could blow out your speakers due to a software incompatibility. I don't have time to sit and read the multitude of info on this issue. If any of you can offer some clarity in simplified form I will be happy to hear it :-) I did not even open the CD that came with the device, since other reviewers said it was useless.

This one worked the first time. I'm very happy
After buying the ones that were half this price from Amazon. Or off eBay. Or off TikTok shop. None of those worked. Of course Amazon's packaging these days are hit or miss. I don't know why you would put a delicate piece of electronics in a paper bag and hand it to a guy in a big brown truck thinking that it would work when it got here. But this one was well boxed and I haven't had one problem with it. I still have some CDs that I've had from the '80s and they work perfect in them. No I don't have a mullet. But I did just go see a RATT tribute band and a Def Leppard tribute band in the same night. They were awesome and it really took you back in time. But as far as this goes it's a good buy if you need one it works

CD player works; included CD is trash though.
The player plugs in and works just fine. HOWEVER. The included media suite CD isn't installable, won't work on Windows 10 or 11 anyway, and should go straight into the trash before you waste your day trying everything under the sun to get their media suite thing working. Your regular Windows Media Player will play and burn CDs just fine.I see that another user has put up directions that used to work to install the software, it but that is no longer possible on Win 10 or 11.

Slow but Reliable External Disc Player
A little slow, but reliable so far and has been able to load and read a variety of music CDs, movie DVDs, and some old software discs. I've had it for a few months now and I'm happy with how well it has worked, although it looks very light and the disc drawer seems fragile, so I'm a little worried about how it will hold up over the long term. But so far so good!

Built Solid
It's built fairly solid, so it doesn't feel flimsy when operating it. It comes with anti-fingerprint plastic over the top and along the sides. This is easily peal-able or I'm sure it would be fine, left on. Similar to many units on Amazon, but this is a Dell DVD +/- RW.

Easy Plug and Play
I got this for my dad who is up and age and struggles with technology. He was able to start using it without needing to spend an hour on the phone with me, so I think that means it's super easy to use out of the box. For that, I am thrilled. It means I get that hour back to maybe actually accomplish something.

Easy installation.
Our new desktop computer didn't have an DVD drive. We ordered the Dell USB DVD/RW drive. So easy to install and watch DVDs from our grandchildren other DVDs. I highly recommend it.
