These are some seriously sketchy looking cut off wheels, ...
These are some seriously sketchy looking cut off wheels, they just showed up today and I've not yet mustered the courage to use them. While some folks are complaining that they don't come with a mandrel, mine did come with a mandrel that is EVERY BIT as sketchy as these wheels are.I expect when I do use them it will be an exercise in pure terror.Unlike the photo for the item, they will not come with a label on them which says anything about their rated RPM, so do I trust the photo here on Amazon to be accurate? Maybe? Maybe not?Thankfully, I've flown airplanes, and if there is one thing you learn flying airplanes, its STAY OUT OF THE PROPELLER ARC!!!! Same goes for grinders and cut-off wheels, STAYOUT OF THE ROTOR ARC. Could save your life... Especially with these seriously sketchy looking discs. If I die tomorrow (hehe, you know, using my DIE grinder), I'll be sure my wife has instructions to reduce my rating on this item by a couple of stars. But if I live, I'll probably leave it at 3 stars, because... well, if they cut things and don't kill me... I guess thats a 3, right? I mean I did get a free unexpected sketchy mandrel that I'll probably always be afraid to use!(needless to say... Not recommended)

Nope. Not for me
som'n hokey in hicksville?Really now, who and where were these made that the mandrel size and the hole in the abrasive disc can be so far off? Should I even try to center the disc on the arbor by sight? And if I get it centered will it stay there once I put it into use? Or is it going to disintegrate and turn into some sort of shredder grenade?I have no pulled out the vernier to see which one is wrong. either the arbor is too small or the discs arbor holes are too big. My arbor appears to be zinc coated steel. has large straight-slot screw style head for mounting. Discs do indeed have a label as in the photo. States on the label 25,000 as a max speed. also states 3" x 1/32" x 3/8" arbor on the label.I'm betting the arbor is not 3/8" but instead some metric sized trash and made on the small size of that metric requirement. which means it won't fit a properly sized 3/8" arbor abrasive disc (like is happening here).Guess this project goes on hold until I get another mandrel. Maybe one made in the US with SAE sized arbor. But still need to measure these out to see which is not sized correctlyYou get what you pay for.

1/4" Die Grinder Mandrel & 3" Metal Cut Off Wheel Kit
These 3" X 1/32" cut off wheels are decently made and have worked well for cutting steel tubing and hollow 1/8" X 27 NPS threaded rod used for light fixtures. They are made by Cal-Hawk and came in a pack of eight along with a 3/8" mandrel with a 1/4" shaft. They are rated at 20,300 RPM and seem well balanced with no noticeable vibration when running in my die grinder at high speed. Considering what they cost I think they were a good value and would purchase again when needed.

Ate through the truck side panel like butter
This disc used with a die grinder will eat through truck panels like butter. I used it with an air die grinder tool to surgically cut out the useless rust and left the other still structurally sound rust as a scaffold to rebuild from after rust converting it.

Mandrel
Just received the mandrel and cut off discs. The discs are great, (hard to find these 1/32" discs). The mandrel is dangerous though. Item is described as the 1/4" shank, but it is really 11/1,000 smaller than the proper size in diameter. The mandrel won't lock up tight enough in the grinder to be able to tighten the nut on the end of it which is supposed to hold the disc tight. I even tried the mandrel on my older air grinder, and the disc just wobbles.

Three Stars
The mandril was a fraction large in diameter. Which made it difficult to fit into the die grinder chuck.

It's not the best, but its gooed.
It's good enough to get the job done. It is exactly what I was looking for. Quality piece for the price.
