I did a ton of research on SUP racks and finally decided on the Yakima one. My board is 12 ft long and I was looking for a rack that 1) was easy to get the board on and off and 2) would be secure enough for long distance highway travel. I am very impressed by this rack. it attached to my cross bars without any difficulty. It is extremely easy to get the board onto the racks since they have a nice roller ball system. The straps are also easy to maneuver over board and into secure latches. I really like that the whole unit locks and that the straps have a place to be tucked away. I just returned from a 16 hour round trip drive and couldn’t say more good things aboug the carrier. My board was secure and did not budge. I reached highway speeds of 80-85 at times and did not have any problem with the board. I would highly recommend this rack to anyone with a SUP

The Thule SUP rack has the famous “straps won’t feed through” issue that’s pretty well known... so I went with this set, and MAN are they good racks. I can install them, lock them to the vehicle, drop 2 boards, lock those and tuck the straps in 6 min flat. They are super easy and ridiculously sturdy. Obviously they have foam strap sets that are 1/5 the cost, but you never feel 100% confident that your board isn’t going to catch some wind and backflip off your car with those. These are for FAST loading and you complete peace of mind.

Excellently designed product! 65 got my hard board on roof easily. Rollers help for sure, the way strap functions is genius. Throw strap back, load board, throw strap back over board, pull through lock mechanism, done.

Held tight for 1000+ mile journey on highway. Of course, I used secondary secondary ratchet straps and front tie down given distance and 75mph speed, but rack itself performed well. Would definitely feel comfortable driving around town with just the rack straps.Install was very quick and easy with the factory crossbars on my Subaru Outback. Less than 10 minutes to install, and less than 5 to remove. Solid product thus far. The built in rollers are a cool design feature.

Would have liked to be able to use but the crossbars (ordered separately) did not fit

Used the rack now more than 3-4 times.Pros:- Easy install on the cross bar- Extra strap is tucked in neatly- Roller helps guiding the SUP greatly and assist greatly in loading the SUP if you do not have enough upper body strength.- Keep the SUPs in place during driving even without locking the straps.- Easily fit two SUP > 11ft in length and upto 30 inch wide- I could load and unload two SUP under 5 minutes.Cons- Noise level is high if the rack in up during highway driving. You can clearly hear the noise.- It is a pricey investment but worth the hassle of using ratchet straps, if you are by yourself.I don't have pics to post but the rack fits and looks great with SUP on. I highly recommend the product.

This rack is awesome!! Easy to install and solid and easy to use. I replaced the Thule SUP rack with this one. What a difference! The Thule doesn't work well on round bars and isn't near as solid as the Yakima. Yakima didn't make an SUP rack 5 years ago so my choices were limited at best. I feared that someday my boards were going to fly off the Thule racks, but now I have no worries. The Thule racks are UGLY too. The Yakima racks look sleek and now my van is fully Yakima accessorized.One other thing is Yakima has great customer service. I had a Yakima Swing Daddy hitch rack and the a few things had broken, and this is after 5 years. I took some photos and e-mailed them to customer service. I couldn't fix the problems with parts they sent. Within days, I had a brand new Swing Daddy (a $500 rack) on my porch. The whole process took less than a week. Kudos Yakima!! I won't deal with anyone else.

I went back and forth between this and the Thule SUP Taxi.Both:Utilize a "roller" to help with loading board number 1.Carry 2 boards.Locks for both mounts and straps.Seemed relatively easy to use.Have great reviews.SUPDawg:Has metal cable in strap to prevent slice-n-theft (not fool proof, but still better!)Area underneath to feed ends of strap into so they don't flap around.2 rubber covers on each strap to place on board.Front tie down.I carried 2 boards. A Mystykk (10'0" x 31.5" x 4.5") and my husband's Scout (11' x 32" x 4.7"). The bands scooch in to get tighter on the opposite side from the roller. This is great for thinner vs wider boards.Took a 35mph corner too fast (closer to 50) and pulled over to check boards. Found top board was slightly askew. After that I took corners and turns like people you might hate... slow down, almost stop, turn. Clearly indicating though!! haha.Note: The top board seemed to have some play. It seemed to be susceptible to a side push which made me a little nervous. We tried a yoga mat but it was too slick (it was a cheapie/freebie), so we wound up cutting a quarter off of a pool noodle and slicing that in half to put under either end which seemed to help some, but not completely.What info I needed to make my decision that was not readily available and so I "took a chance" anyway:Highway driving. I drove this thing from the Houston, TX area to Panama City, FL. About 660 miles to my Mom's place. I had no idea what the speed rating on this thing was. On the way there I kept it at 65. Sure this added some time to my trip, but the boards stayed put.When I came back however, I was more comfortable and picked it up to no more than 70.At both top speeds every time I stopped, I got out to check the straps and to push the top board forward. The backward shift seemed more evident at the 70 speed than the 65.There was ZERO noise from unit, except ocassionally when the front strap ends would flap. My hubs had that in a nice knot for me.Front strap - waves a lot in the wind when behind big vehicles but remained secure. Was hard for me to tighten without actually sitting on the hood of the truck b/c of where the clip/adjustment buckle is at. My husband said we should get a caribiner instead. The strap attaches using a "Y" knot (I think that's what it's called - where you loop the strap through itself).On the way to PC since the board straps were new, it seemed like I had to continue to tighten them slightly due to a minuscule amount of stretching. This may have been only my perception. On the way back I did not have to tighten the straps more than once.Other notes: My husband is 6' and loaded both boards for me before leaving Hou and before he flew out of PC. My son and his friend were supposed to help, but we just left them on the top. I'm 5'2 and would probably need a stool to load. My board was much lighter than my husband's and he said it was "easy" to load on top of his. He did say the rollers were helpful.No place for paddles. dangit! I may purchase an attachment to be able to put them on the top. Ours are adjustable so it wasn't too bad but I wanted to note this. We did carry 7 people to the beach a few times and then during the drive we had a mastiff in the back who needed the space.Remember to take the valve cover off of the 2nd board. You may want to lay something soft under that space. We noticed when I got back home (TX) that my husband's board had a dent in it from my valve which did not have a cover on it.I feel secure with my purchase and will use it again and again!Note in the pic how my board has shifted back somewhat.I love questions - please feel free to ask!
