Number one best pocket journal in the world !!!
Perfect size. A man can slip it easily into his pants pocket. I carry it in a small purse. Nice and slim but lots of pages due to thin paper. No prob with bleed thru either with the ballpoint pen I use (a small one I keep in a Taxi wallet which I also carry in my purse). I carry my Moleskine Pocket Journal with me everywhere. I put a small date in the top corner of every page I start in this format: 4/14. Then, if I decide to record something I want to refer to later, I put the date and topic in a table of contents on the first page. Then I start keeping general notes at the other end of the journal to allow for expansion of the topic. I keep my credit cards and business cards in the pocket in the back. Now, about the issue of the spine. It's very sturdy but if you're worried, I recommend the Molecover(tm) made by the company with that name. Google it and have a look. I keep my Moleskine in one and they compliment each other in wonderful ways beyond description. Buttery soft leather, allows intended use of the journal's elastic closure band, thin so it doesn't hinder slipping in and out of a pocket. The Molecover has it's own pocket in which I put a few 3 x 5 index cards in case I want to jot something to be kept separately, e.g., a recipe or formula. I'm so happy with this system. ------------------------------------------------- Update: It's now two years since I started using this lovely little journal and I have to say it's my favorite possession. No kidding, it means a lot to me. Boooo to those naysayers who write reviews saying Moleskines are not sturdy or that the paper is not high quality and bleeds through. Lies! The Moleskine journal wears better than iron and the pages do not bleed through if you use a ball point pen like I do. The paper is very high quality and always accepts the ink, better than Levenger paper which I also use for note cards. A pocket journal must stand up to a lot of abuse if carried every day like mine is. It goes everywhere with me and I write in it every day. Imagine this - I write in it every day and it took me two years to fill it. It's so thin I didn't expect this. I thought I would fill it in a few months. I ordered a set of 3 and have just started on my second one today. The first one still looks brand new except for the writing inside. The cover is still smooth black, in good shape, the rugged (sewn not glued) spline still perfectly binding the pages. It looks like it would last another 100 years carrying it every day. Honestly this pocket journal is a bargain considering what you get for your money. Buy it, you can't go wrong!

Great daily-use pocket notebook for those who prefer analog notes
The Moleskine Classic Notebook provides an authentic experience perfect for those who prefer an analog note-taking format. The characteristics that define any worthwhile notebook include simple portability, lasting dependability, and a sensible price tag. The Moleskine Classic Notebook encompasses all of these features into a seamless, functional product. The small design allows the notebook to be stored and transported by almost any means. With 3.5”x 5.5” dimensions the notebook fits snuggly into pant pockets without feeling bulky. Backpacks and any standard bag pocket offer more than enough space for easy storage. Due to the reduced size, the notebook can be easily withdrawn from storage and held in one hand for jotting down quick notes and reminders. The notebook offers a compact, durable design perfect for a to-do list or jotting down information. On the outside, the notebook comes with a hardcover and sturdy binding eliminating any worry about falling apart. Sitting down with the notebook in the back pocket puts little stress on the structure and shows no sign of overtly creasing. Inside, the paper falls on the lighter side weighing in at 70 grams per square meter: suitable for dry writing utensils such as pencils or ballpoint gel pens. Using fountain ink pens results in slight see-through, but not enough to hinder writing on both sides of the page. Compared to other similar products the Moleskine pocket notebook provides solid value at a sensible price of $10. The majority of pocket notebooks fall within the $8-$20 range depending on the brand and material quality. Considering the robust nature of the Moleskine notebook, $10 is a small investment for a product with a life expectancy of 6+ months. The notebook includes more value-added aspects such as an elastic band that firmly holds the notebook shut; an internal accordion pocket for additional storage; and a braided, satin bookmark to keep track of your spot. Overall, the Moleskine Classic Notebook is a perfect choice for those seeking a reliable, pocket-sized notebook. Whether jotting down reminders or writing a to-do list, the notebook provides a great format for your daily note-taking needs.

Portable, Practical, and Professional
I am an IT professional, and throughout the course of my day I am bombarded with technical information, numerical details, and tasks that need to be attended to. I am also required to record my work notes for invoicing purposes. Clearly, I need to keep written notes, or risk losing my mind. I'd previously used larger spiral-ring notebooks, but I had a habit of forgetting these and wasting time to backtrack and find my notes (lest billing time come around, and I find myself unable to tell the client what I was doing all week!). The primary appeal of this Moleskine notebook is its portability - it fits easily in my pants pocket, and its hard cover keeps the paper in good shape. The paper itself is of high quality, and feels good to write on. I've used this notebook every day for the past several months at work, and it has held up well. It is also suitable for the crude doodles that I occasionally produce when I'm bored at my desk. I am not a fan of the elastic band included on the cover, but this was easily snipped away with scissors. Of course, being a pocket-sized notebook, there is not a ton of width per page, and this requires a degree of brevity in my notes. I have been forced to write my notes a bit more concisely and have developed shorthand for common terms ("ø" means that I rebooted something, for example), but this is to be expected from a pocket notebook, and is not really an issue. Overall, I would highly recommend this notebook for any professionals who always seem to need to jot something down. Artists, dreamers, and creative types may want to opt for a larger Moleskine notebook.

PERFECT on the go notebook. (Now they're going to change it, huh? ; )
After ordering (1) other and seeing a 2nd both advertising White paper, but having v Yellow, I bought this. THIS notebook is perfect. It has noticeably whiter paper, (white enough but Not bright white) for contrast with my words. Lines are there, but they're faint (perfect)...just right for guiding w/o later interfering with what's said. Just noticed this morning I love how smooth the outer hard moleskin cover is. Imagine a tacky / grabby outer cover...pain in the butt putting in and retrieving from many pockets. I love getting an idea on the go and not wrestling with the notebook, losing time, maybe losing the thought. All the lost thoughts are the best you know. Strap holds covers together. Holding up so far, but light use so far. Ribbon no doubt will be v useful. Now to fill it with a great novel.

Hard to choose a favorite, but I have.
I like these books a lot, but they're not my favorite. I prefer another brand called "Markings" by C.R. Gibson. I just like them better. Moleskine is a GREAT product but it just comes down to preference for me. One reason for me being partial to them is the rulings on the pages. On the "Markings" books, the top header is more prominent which makes for a cleaner look and more room for inputting things like titles and dates to your writings. Also, I like the paper better too in the "Markings" books -- it just agrees more with me. [Wow, I kind of sound like a snob haha!] Lastly, I like the taller slimmer book as opposed to the shorter fatter Moleskines. They're very very close in size, but the "markings" just seems to fit better into my back pocket. Moleskine books really are great, it's hard to find something to complain about having not used any others, unfortunately, I have used others and I just like them better. Both "Markings" and Moleskine both have rear pockets, great quality pages, perfect pocket sizing, great durability, and look great and inspirational for writing. I can and will recommend this product with all of that in mind! It deserves 5 stars, but I give it 4 because of how I feel toward another in it's same class.

Worthwhile once you learn how to use a journal.
People aren't paying 10 bucks for these tiny journals for nothing and neither am I. I will say that for prose writers or for anyone that is trying to get a better value, go for the bigger-sized versions, though i don't recommend the cahiers at all. They are not worth the money. I write poetry and have been working on an epic poem that is not all 'short.' much of it has been jotted down in one of these tiny moleskines. It's amazing how much they can hold, but there are 192 pages. The main thing about any journal is learning to utilize space. I've been using journals for creative purposes since I started out in architecture at virginia tech ten years ago and i think i'm just now getting the hang of it. I really believe it's about as much of a trick as learning to utilize line breaks in poetry. One more thing: if you're using a fountain pen that's of good quality, it really doesn't take more than 20-25 seconds for the ink to dry. As for claims about bad bindings, I don't know what to say. I set one on top of my car and drove off, thought it was gone and came back to the same 55 mph road that I had taken off on two hours prior. I found the journal in the road. The cover was partially torn away and was extremely scuffed but the binding was fine. I'm guessing the bad bindings were flukes. Just my opinion. Still have the journal. Repaired with some type of black tape they use to conceal wires. Update: If carried in back pocket, the binding will fail. The bindings are otherwise adequate, but they do age. I suggest either finding a safer pocket or trying the soft bound version of this. I have not tried the soft-bound one and did not want to, but will. A month of getting sat on every day will ruin any I suppose. Sorry for doubting claims of other reviewers.

MoleskineといえばHard! Black! Pocket! Ruled!!!
