Razer Basilisk Ultimate Wireless Gaming Mouse

I ordered this mouse in as it was the same design as the G502 that I very much enjoyed, but I wanted to keep my peripherals matched with my other Razer products, as well as my recent experience with the "updated" Logitech G Hub app was VERY frustrating and not enjoyable. I use this both for work and play at home for many games. The design itself is great and feels very nice to use with my preferred fingertip/claw grip. The biggest complaints about the mouse fall into this field for me though as I very much miss the 2 buttons on the left mouse button that are present in the G502, but are missing in this rendition, however this is not to be faulted against Razer as that is a different mouse, just something I'd love to see. The other complaint is the removable thumb paddle which is very short and difficult to reach without readjusting your grip. The last minor complaint is that the underside compartment where the USB dongle can be stored is a very cheap plastic door that I can see breaking or becoming lost after extended use. It would have been nice to see a more stable hinged or sliding door to house the USB when traveling. Aside from that, the buttons feel responsive and pleasant, and the scroll wheel resistance settings are much more preferred rather than just tactile or free spin. The mouse feels light and sturdy enough that I don't ever find myself thinking it feels cheap, and the grip texture along the sides of the mouse is comfortable and doesn't appear to be wearing off so far. As for the functionality of the mouse, the connection speed and response time is incredible! The mouse reacts as fast as a wired mouse with no hiccups that I've encountered so far. The 20k DPI is ridiculous to say the least and I could never see it being used by myself, but it's fun to see the point scream across my monitors at a mere jostle of the mouse. The battery life of my mouse when I first received it was dismal at best and I was very disappointed to see the battery life drop from ~90% to ~60% after sitting on my desk TURNED OFF for a few hours. I charged to full a few times and was still encountering the issue, so I reached out to Razer Support. They provided me a firmware update file, something that I thought the Synapse app would have done, and after following the instructions to update the mouse, it has been night and day difference! Now my mouse lasts MUCH longer even when left on, with a sleep timer set, while having the RGB brightness set to 30%. Between going from work to home, I use this thing for upwards of 12hrs a day and I can last about 3-4 days before needing to charge. Overall, I very much enjoy this mouse after the Firmware Update was applied and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the feel/style of the Logitech G502, but want to try out something different. I would love to compare the wireless G502 to this one, but I don't have the pocket money to do that. So take this review as simply a review of the mouse and G502 "fashion" comparison.

I have owned a few wireless mice over the years, most recently an older Razer Naga, with mixed results. The battery life on most “gaming” mice I’ve used before has been awful, and as I frequently forget to put mice back on their docks after 25 years of using wired mice, most of the time I’d return to the mouse only to find it dead, plug it back into the cable, and just leave it in wired mode 98% of the time. But so far, this mouse has never once died on me, even with the lighting left on, and even when I forget it. The sleep function works, and with its surprisingly good active battery life, it is never dropped below 30% power. The sensitivity is freakishly high, and I’m not really sure why anyone would need 20,000 DPI but it’s there if you have a use case for it. I like that it has the ability to adjust the tension on the scroll wheel and can range from extremely smooth scrolling to snapping steps depending on preference. Probably my favorite feature thus far is the optional “clutch” button on the side, which I remapped to F13 and use now as my Push-To-Talk key in discord. I have always liked having PTT as mouse 4 or 5, but it is nice to now have a “mouse 6” of sorts that is well positioned and not otherwise dedicated to something else like window navigation. Despite the fact I am giving this mouse a 5/5, it has not been 100% without issue. The wireless would drop out frequently at first, and the mouse would stop responding completely until it was plugged in, or the hub was unplugged and replugged, at which point it would stop working again within minutes or hours. Other users suggested this was possibly a problem with the USB port going into “sleep” mode, so I went and set every port I could find to never shut off, but to no avail. However, after trying a couple different USB ports, I found one that seemingly did not have this problem at all, and it has been fine ever since. As others have experienced this issue with this mouse, it’s worth keeping in mind that if you experience this problem, it might not actually be the mouse’s fault, even if it seems to be especially vulnerable to it. Overall, I am quite happy with this mouse. It’s on the expensive end to be sure, but it’s the first wireless “gaming mouse” I’ve used that actually functions as a wireless mouse for me.

04/27/20 UPDATE to new mouse. +1 For amazon making the replacement process quick and easy. Made the shipping label and got the new mouse ordered on the night of my initial review. +1 New mouse even though ordered on Thursday, didn't ship till 11pm saturday night and arrived sunday maybe like 1pm? So extremely fast turn-around. +1 This mouse works perfectly fine. Getting used to the size and weight was much faster than I thought. +1 Tested the battery life @ 10% lighting, on a static light blue color, and set the mouse to turn off RGB after 5 minutes of no movement. With off and on usage, and gaming in the mix, I got 4 days of battery life total, 3 comfortably, 4th day I felt like charging it. This was about what I expected and I am very happy with its current battery performance. +1 I have no trouble reaching and using the metal side mouse button with my thumb as my discord PTT. I have smallish hands and its comfortable for me. Not sure how people "can't" reach it. ? Had some issues with synapse not letting me change my mouse color when not on the dock, so I had to make a new profile and delete the original one, then restart the app. Works fine now, could have been me not being familiar with the software so I didn't knock a star off for that. 4 Stars only because of the bad QA on the first mouse. Now that I am putting time into this mouse I am happy with my purchase and for the most part my old PROS/CONS are basically the same. ---------------------------------------------------OLD INITIAL REVIEW--------------------------------------------------------- Currently given a 1 star because within 15 minutes of testing the mouse produces a High pitched "wet" click when clicking the LMB (could be because of the switch or sounded like unadhered glue?). Was there every 2-3 clicks and was a higher tone than the actual click so was really annoying. Plus the fact that I could hear it through my open back headphones made that particular mouse a somewhat bad experience. Also It would make the sound when just slightly wiggling the LMB and not actuating the switch. This was as of 04/16/20, should be getting the replacement on the 18th or 19th and I'll update once I've gotten some serious playtime in COD and BFV. PROS- - Comfortable, Easy to set-up and Synaps was easy to use too. - RGB set to 10% for the mouse seems to be peoples go-to for battery life/ visuals. - QUALITY- Razer always has my respect for giving a high quality feel to their products. Even if their QC fails them at times like mine. - Charging dock comes with the sticky rubber base in order to keep it from moving around which is nice. - Optional side mouse button is metal which is nice, and the switch for it is IMO the best feeling switch I've ever felt. Shame M4 and M5 dont feel like it. CONS- - Can't use mouse. - Would like to be able to have custom control over Color-to-Battery Life % on the dock. - Charging dock gets much hotter than I would have expected, I'll probably drop the brightness on that as well to see if that cools it down. - Personal Bias, not a fault of the mouse, I come from using a Rival 300 for a few years, so I'm used to fat heavy mice. Even though its supposed to be about 18% lighter, I don't really feel it. - Not a fan of the hard plastic they use for the pads, my Rival 300's pads glide much smoother over my new (2 months old) Corsair MM350 XL, the basilisk has a bunch of resistance almost like I can feel it getting caught on individual strands on the mouse mat. - USB dongle feels very loose in the dock when inserted. - As far as I could fine you can't set the additional side mouse button to be like a "M6" , it can be literally binded to any type of command imaginable. I could probably set it to flush my toilet, but it can't be its own standalone key.

I've been skeptical on buying a wireless mouse as my primary gaming mouse for years now. I finally broke down and decided to try this one, as a wireless mouse would be more ideal for my situation, and so far I'm glad I bought this. Connecting it with the Razer Synapse App was a breeze, and all of the lighting zones worked correctly from the start. The combinations of colors and effects you can have with the mouse (and the charging station) is really a great feature if you like having RGB lighting on your peripherals. The charging station, if you chose to buy that too, works really well. Placing the mouse onto the charger is quick and easy, and it looks nice next to the rest of the setup. Like I mentioned before, the charging station also has RGB options in the Synapse App, and can even let you know the mouses battery level with a light color while it's charging. The responsiveness, so far, has been great too. I haven't noticed a single drop in connection, or issue with the mouse lazer skipping at all. I've used the mouse on several surfaces (table, couch cushion, pillow, mousepad, carpet) and so far the lazer has been able to track the surface I'm using really well, if not perfectly. I'm actually impressed at how many places you're actually able to use this mouse on, without having to use a mousepad or something similar. Last but not least, the scroll wheel. The bottom of the mouse has small wheel you can spin up/down, that lets you adjust the sensitivity of the scroll wheel. You can have it click, with quite a bit of resistance. Or you can set it to be smooth, without any clicks at all. It's very satisfying, and depending on your situation (gaming, surfing the web) it can be very handy to switch between different settings on the fly, without any software needed) Out of the many Razer products I've owned throughout the years, this mouse is definitely one of my favorites. If you're looking for a solid wireless mouse, and like the multiple different RGB functions that Razer offers, look no further. So far I'm really impressed.

I really love all the customization. It does suck out battery pretty quickly, but you can just plug in the wire from the charging block and continue using the mouse as it charges. I find I probably should have just bought the mouse with its wire instead of the charging block, I hardly use the charging block. When wireless, it will occasionally disconnect for five seconds. I've had it for over a week, it's only done it once. I've heard other people warn about this, though. When it's plugged in, it doesn't do it. The buttons all move nicely, and my hand fits over it well. I can absolutely rip through Doom, now. The build is high-quality, but the plastic does pick up hand oil very easily and become shiny. There are some quirks with windows 10: if you have a dual monitor, the cursor will stick to the edges when you try dragging one window from one side to the other. Also, a similar problem happens when I'm trying to use sliders in Adobe Premier. My previous mouse didn't do this, so this is completely part of the Razer mouse software. it gets very annoying. I'm still trying to find a solution. It's still a massive leap from my previous mouse, but I do want to fix that bug.

I've gone through several mice for my gaming setup. I have an Xbox Razer Turret since my PC is hooked up to my living room home theater set up and do couch gaming It comes with a solid mouse. I guess it's the equivalent to the Razer Mamba. However I wanted more buttons on the mouse that I could program. Over the winter I tried out he Corsair Ironclaw. I liked it, a bit on the heavy side, but I liked all the buttons that I could custom program. However from the start I had problems with that mouse. I would reset and lose my custom configuration and also would lose connection intermittently causing stuttering. After 4 months I gave up on it. It was between the Razer Basilisk Ultimate and Viper. I Initially chose the Viper, loved the response on it and it was so light. However it only had 7 programmable buttons which I thought should be enough, but two were mouse buttons on the other side, which where difficult to get to. So essentially I was stuck with only 5 buttons,;which was less then my Turret mouse, although it was quicker and more responsive. It also felt a bit small in my hands. I don't have huge hands, I guess longer fingers, but I would consider them medium. So after 3 days I took back the Viper Ultimate and gave the Basilisk Ultimate a go. I absolutely love it. It's not as light as the viper ultimate, but lighter then the ironclaw. Almost the same weight as my Turret mouse. It was 11 Programmable buttons. It's quick and responsive, fits on hand perfectly. I have zero connection issues. The Razer app is easy to use, since I've had it for my turret there was zero learning curve. The battery life is outstanding. I don't run any RGB lights so essentially maybe charge it once every few weeks, since I only use if for gaming and use my original Turret mouse for everything else. Highly recommended.

I've bought this mouse not because my previous was gone/damaged/vaporated, but because the previous Razer Basilisk Ultimate is 5 years old and I've used it a lot :DDD No cons at all, just maybe the battery capacity becomes less after 5 years :D In general - perfect mouse.

Mi Logitech G502 le comenzaron a fallar los botones así que elegí este modelo como sucesor. El G502 tiene piezas metálicas para agregar al gusto y personalizar el peso y distribución del mismo, en teoría es genial pero en la practica sin tener conocimiento sobre como hacer el ajuste es algo molesto, el Razer ya viene con un peso predeterminado el cual es el ideal. Mientras que el Razer tiene un ajuste manual sobre la resistencia de la rueda al girar, el punto mas ligero no es lo suficientemente ligero para mi gusto, en cambio el G502 tiene un botón que ajusta una resistencia "normal" cercana a la mas ligera del Razer y hace el cambio a ninguna resistencia lo cual permite que la rueda gire por inercia lo cual es genial al navegar en paginas por internet, es un punto en el cual en mi opinión le gana al Razer y esperaba que también lo tuviera. El cable USB que incluye es muy suave , muy cómodo si no vas a usar el dock y vas a conectarlo directo al mouse. El dock es genial y muy útil cuando te acostumbras a colocarlo para cargar a la primera. La iluminación es genial, el software tiene muchas opciones, es tedioso si no te gusta meterte demasiado a los ajustes, pero genial si prefieres personalizar lo mas posible tus periféricos. Si tuviera que mencionar algún "contra" del dispositivo solo mencionaría dos. -El ajuste de la resistencia de la rueda debería tener la opción de cero resistencia. -La batería no dura mucho, si usas el ajuste de la iluminación a la mitad (intensidad), en ese nivel podría durar un turno de trabajo, la carga es relativamente rápida pero seria genial mas capacidad de parte de la batería. Si vienen de algún mouse mas económico es una buena opción, pero sugiero esperar a la temporada de promociones para conseguirlo a precio atractivo y vendido por Amazon, también sugiero invertir en una garantía extendida por si las dudas. Actualización: Debido a que es mi primer mouse de esta gama inalámbrico y con un dock hay un detalle que me atrapo desprevenido y puede que les sirva. A dos meses de estarlo usando continuamente empecé a notar que tardaba en habilitarse después de haberse apagado para ahorrar energía y al montarlo en el dock a veces no lo ponía en carga y solo se quedaba con el patrón de luces. Al parecer la memoria del mouse se satura y comienza a ciclarse o congelarse al hacer cambio de acciones (pasar de hibernación a activo o de estar en uso a cargando, incluso note que la batería le duraba menos) lo cual se soluciona apagando y volviendo a encender el mouse desde el switch en la parte de abajo , después de esto reacciona igual que el primer día de uso, ahora lo apago cada que me voy a dormir y lo dejo en su dock cargando.

I needed a replacement for my G502 proteus core which i've had since 2015 or so, I really needed a mouse with a similar button layout, specifically a thumb button as well since I use that alot for VOIP push to talk and I'm way too used to it. I have a g502 hero mouse too but the double clicking issue with logi has gone beyond belief at this point and I just can't risk buying another set of mice like it (I already RMA'd the hero mouse once) just failing with switches over and over, it wastes my time far too much. Granted, my old proteus core is still kicking but I needed another mouse for work as well. The basilisk so far, first day of use, these are my impressions: **The GOOD GOOD**: -Small -Lightweight (compared to g502) -Resistance levels are adjustable for the scroll wheel -Razer software allows on board memory usage as well, I don't really have complaints with Synapse. -Thumb button is fantastic, feels fantastic -Side buttons feel alright, I do like the feel of the G502 better but they're fine. ***The not so good good*** - Seems like the battery life might not be 100hrs as advertised, 1.5 hours of use drained almost 12% already though it is not in low power mode. This might not be ideal for long extended 15-18 hour gaming sessions which I really don't do anymore unless I'm on holidays or something, I'm testing the low power mode and will report again eventually. -no other issues observed yet. Overall: Well, I can't really complain, it's wireless, it feels good, it's responsive even in low power mode right now, the dock is magnetic so it's extremely easy to just latch on and leave (very big bonus). The thumb button is removable but it also feels fantastic as button concept is far superior to what the G502 had. Time will tell if the mouse holds up to my old logitech treasure, my initial experience with a Razer Naga over 10 years ago was absolutely traumatizing, the thing maybe lasted 6 months between double clicking issues and eventually the sensor just dying on me. This new Basilisk + the Synapse software seem to have redeemed my praise for Razer, they've come a long way but again, time will tell. If you see this mouse on sale, at least based on these first impressions, I'd say buy it with the dock. (it's currently $120 on Amazon US with the dock included which is why I purchased it). **Update April 30th** Only 2 days of use now, I realized my battery was draining over 10% an hour with 33% brightness on RGB and 1000 polling rate. I dropped the RGB lighting to 0 on the mouse and polling rate to 500 hz, now it's about 1% per hour of gaming time so it seems to be falling in line with the 100hrs of use at that point (note, this is not in low power mode which I haven't really tested well yet). I preemptively put a ticket in with Razer to see if I had a dud or not initially but it seems like if this actually holds at 1% per hour in current settings, it's plenty, i throw it on the dock over night anyways but at this rate it can last 4-5 days of playing without a charging it which is quite impressive. Update after a couple weeks of use: I'm very happy with this mouse, it is certainly extremely customizable. I previously mentioned I managed to get the battery life alot higher. Now after a full day of gaming, 15hrs + I'm barely even getting to like 81-85% battery which is fantastic. Charging it so mindless with the dock that I don't think anyone will ever worry about it. Overall my only complaint is that the clicking feels a bit wobbly, my logitech mice clicks are generally very firm and there's no movement of the click buttons side to side whatsoever, but otherwise, the mouse itself is fantastic, extremely comfortable and again the closest thing I could get to a g502, the scroll wheel has a nice feel, the rest of the button feels very good with each click feeling fantastic.

Chegou em menos de 10 dias, apesar de estar previsto para 30 dias. Muito ergonômico, bem leve ao meu ponto de vista, a bateria dura muito, fora que vem com a base que carrega. Voltando pra dar um feedback depois de muito tempo de uso, o mouse é otimo, mas tem problemas que me fazem nao querer ter comorado, o scroll de rolagem é terrivel nunca fu ciona bem, vc quer rolar pra baixo ou ora cima ele faz a funcao co.pletamente descontrolada, quando nao responde faz tudo ao contrario, da vonta de quebrar, fora que isso no meio de qualquer trabalho ou jogo traz um arrependimento extremo pra um mouse de quase 1000 reais

Honestly best mouse I've ever used! Battery life lasts days, it's so comfortable to the hand, it's not small not big just perfect size. I mean like what is there else to say it's just a great mouse and I would definitely recommend to anyone.
