Effective feedback on form during certain core exercises but is a little pricey
I discovered this contraption in physical therapy after herniating a disc in my lumbar spine. I had to strengthen my deep core muscles to stabilize my spine and alleviate symptoms of the herniation. This item helps make seemingly easy exercises much harder and more effective by providing feedback on your form. I felt it was so effective, that I bought my own to use after I was done with physical therapy. Highly recommended for those who want feedback on correct form and real results. My only complaint is that it seems kind of expensive for what it is. I've seen manual blood pressure measurement kits significantly cheaper, and this is pretty much the same concept with a pad rather than the arm band. I wasn't able to find a more affordable alternate brand though, so I bit the bullet and paid up.

Awesome product used at PT
This was part of PT that helped overcome a lifelong back problem. Ordered one on 11/2 for home. It arrived quickly. Pump was missing a piece so it leaked. I called manufacturer (thinking maybe I wasn't using it correctly) and they promised to send a new one. Called again 3 weeks later...out of stock. Replacement is perfect.

Ditch the BP cuff and go with the Stabilizer!
Love this product for therapy stabilization training for neck and lumbar exercises. Also nice that the price is half of what it used to be. The new gauge is color coded at 20-30 mm, at 40 mm, and at 70 mm Hg to coordinate with levels needed for stabilzation training. The gauge also goes from 0 - 200 mm Hg, unlike BP cuff, which starts at 20 mm and goes to 300 mm. The tubing is twice as long as a BP cuff, making it much easier to place in position for visual feedback. The larger gauge also helps here. Ditch the BP cuff and invest in one of these! My first one lasted nearly 10 years, (started to leak), and traveled all over the country in my suitcase, so I would def say it is durable. Only con is that because of longer tubing, it takes longer for air to stabilize in the tubing at the right level. Be patient with it.

Professional product at a reasonable price
I was proscribed to attend out patient therapy for back and hip pain. Among the techniques they taught me was to use this product. I got the name of it and searched on the internet for it. This unit is the very same they use in the therapy program I attended. It is elegant in it's simplicity. Being a "visual" learner -- it is so much easier for me to see the progress I make learning to control certain muscles by how the dial indicator moves. For the narrow purpose I wanted it for, it is excellent for long term visual indication of the effectiveness of training certain muscles of the abdomen and back. I would recommend it to anyone with the needs I have.

When you get good at holding the needle pointer steady
If you have lower-back weak-muscle problems, this simple device might be your cure. Use it to retrain weak muscles and to gain greater control over them and some you didn't know you had. Simple to use. Inflate slightly,. place it under the small of your back while you are on the floor, then tense your muscles ever so slightly while watching the feedback dial to keep steady at one number, Count 10 Mississippis and then tighten a little to move the dial pointer up five points and count again. Repeat about four times and then reverse coming back down. The numbers are irrelevant, serving only to show that you are holding your muscles steady. When you get good at holding the needle pointer steady, then try to hold it steady while you slowly draw your knee to your chest. Good luck with that move, but you'll be far better at it then on the first day.

BUY THIS BUT READ FIRST-Your back will thank you!!!
There are many bad reviews for no reason. First, since this is a medical device, you NEED TO READ THE MANUAL. After that you can follow the book for recommended extra exercises. The book alone is worth $15 and has the same stuff my PT recommended. This device was originally $240 and worth it if used properly. Some people keep squeezing the pump up to 100lbs of pressure and wonder why it leaks. Follow the manual for operation and exercises and you can use it twice a day for two year without incident. Any medical device put in the hands of a "Google Doctor" individual will fail fast if used improperly. If you can and will read the owners manual, you will be very.happy with this quality made (Austria) medical device.

doesn't hold pressure
some of the exercises are very precise and need only minimal movement of the needle, but it is nearly impossible to know you are applying the right pressure because this device can't hold its pressure at all.

Solved my long term lower back issues
For all the reviews that say this leaks... the 1st one I had (which I got from my physical therapist) did begin to start leaking air. I've had this replacement for over a year now, and it has held up fine. I'm sure it will eventually begin to leak (after all, it's plastic). When it does, I'll simply replace it. In my opinion, $45 is a very inexpensive price to pay to be pain free from sciatica and lower back problems. I had lower back problems for over 30 years, and have tried almost everything. This simple piece of equipment finally gave me a long term solution. I did have a minor flair up last summer, but pulled out my stabilizer and used it. After a couple days, I was pain free again. Now, I try to make sure I use it at least once a week for maintenance. I highly recommend.
