From the producers of Soul Food comes this "warm, generous" (The New York Times) taleabout a Chicago barbershop where razor-sharp comedy never goes out of style! Starring Ice Cube, Anthony Anderson, Sean Patrick Thomas, Eve and Cedric the Entertainer, Barbershop is both a "sweet, life-affirming movie" (N.Y. Daily News) and outrageous, bust-a-gut fun!Calvin (Ice Cube) is a would-be entrepreneur with big plans and running his family's barbershop isn't one of them. But when he impulsively sells the shop to a shady loan shark, he soon realizes just how important the neighborhood parlor is to him and just how far he'll go to get it back!

Ice Cube starts a new comedy franchise
Barbershop was an Ice Cube production. It was an attempt to make another comedy series like he’d done with Friday, but more accessible. Barbershops are one of the foundations of every African American community. Men don’t just go there to get a cut but to socialize and hang out. Cube plays Calvin who has a wife and a baby on the way but whose behind on his payments to the bank which is about to foreclose on his loan. That puts him in a dilemma over whether he can keep his shop or not.The movie has a large ensemble cast. There’s Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer) who is the OG veteran barber who makes jokes and tries to dish out some wisdom. There’s Isaac (Troy Garity) who can’t get any business because he’s white. There’s Terri (Eve) who is an angry black woman. Ricky (Michael Ealy) is a former criminal whose trying to turn his life around. Jimmy (Sean Patrick Thomas) thinks he’s better than the others because he’s educated. They present the stories, the jokes and the drama of the movie. They also represent the sense of family and community that are formed in barbershops.

'Friends' meets 'It's a Wonderful Life'
If you wished 'Coming to America' had more of the barbershop banter, the armchair meaning of life and solutions to all of life's problems in a minute, then kick back at ' Barbershop'.It's a really great funny, engaging movie with heart.Calvin inherits his family owned business, The Barbershop. It's not until he sells it to a loan shark, Keith David aka Pastor Greenleaf, that he realizes what he thought was holding him back was what lifted others up.It's an amazing ensemble cast of people who genuinely seem to like each other.Even the characters you should rout against, warm your heart in comedic familiarity. It's the all purpose movie. It'll make you laugh, distract you from some next level 2020 crazy or,keep you company while you do chores.Just like a Frank Capra story, reminds you the best solution for feeling down is,being part of a community.Great movie on it's own or binging all 3 with Part 2 & Beauty Shop with Queen Latifah.

Couldn't make it beyond 10 minutes
I remember a friend telling me about 15 years ago how much he liked this movie, so I was excited when I saw it was available on Prime. I almost didn't make it through the opening credits as they were blasting some piece of junk "rap". (I will not call it music because it doesn't qualify.) I stuck it out for a few more minutes then gave up. I could only understand about 50% of the dialogue, which was not funny in the least. For the other 50%, I thought about turning on captioning so I could read what they were mumbling, but decided after the first 10 minutes that I simply couldn't take this rot anymore.

Another Ice Cube to go.
Another pretty good Ice Cube movie. he seems to turn them out like Tyler Perry, with no particular pattern in mind, just get some people together and make some money. My fans will come to see it. I was heartfelt because my father was a barber, and had his own shop about 2 blocks from our home. I have 2 brothers and a slew of cousins who also followed into the trade. The movie was like an enjoyable ensemble that played off the small screen atmosphere and didn't wander away from the central theme, which made each scene rather predictable, but the acting was fair and the true star of the show was the ever funny Cedric. It will come as no surprise that he held the movie together even as it began to unravel before the 3rd act, and his comedic presence saved the day.

Looking Forward To Its Next Sequences
I like this movie. It's not violent but does address real issues affecting this community that could be generalized and understood by anyone watching it. It does not rely on heavy stereotyping of its characters and their culture but does not turn its head away from some of the real issues facing these people. It's a refreshing plot that does not lean too much on "blackness". I'm no expert on black entertainment but this is really original compared with other black movies I've seen over the years under this genre.

generic comedy
Ice Cube went from the savage brilliance of NWA to become a mediocre / sometimes funny movie star, just to end up in his present role as shill for Donald Trump. The decline was slow and this movie falls somewhere in the middle ... it's not horrible, it's just kind of there.

Funny and warm
Funny and warm. This is a nice movie. Definitely has race as a central part of the movie - actually what's called "reverse racism" of blacks looking down at someone who is white. But it's done in a constructive way. There isn't an incredible amount of running around kind of action but it's funny, happy, connective, and keeps you on your toes. I liked watching it.

Funny and thoughtful
Thought provoking and culturally relevant, not afraid to discuss difficult topics within the community that wouldn’t be discussed today, good message wrapped in humour. Would recommend.
