Worked like a charm
The blade was sharp right out of the box, so it came ready to go to work. This tool also impressed me with how solid it felt. This is likely a tool that will outlast me. I used this to shave a door that no longer fit properly in the frame. The blade depth adjustment takes a little getting used to, but it wasn't hard to "get the feel" for getting the right cut.

Amazing Plane For The Price
My first impression with this Amazon Basics No.4 Adjustable Universal Bench Hand Plane was - Wow! It came packaged in form fitted high density foam, wrapped in plastic and coated with oil to prevent rust. All in a very sturdy cardboard box! The plane has good weight and the bottom was smooth and flat. This was the easiest plane to adjust. After loosening the thump screw that locks the blade, two thumb screws on each side at the top of the blade adjusts the blade depth and angle. Very simple and easy to use! The blade was very sharp out of the box and shaved through wood like a hot knife through butter. I was able to get this for under 18$ and let me tell you, it is every bit as good as planes costing triple or quadruple that price. This plane will definitely be a great addition to my shop and get a lot of use. For the quality and price, I highly recommend it!

Good planer for the price
I needed to plane a couple of doors and this looked like a good buy and it was! The blade is easy to adjust to take off the amount of wood you want. Also easy to clean. Not sure about sharpening as I haven't had to sharpen the blade yet - probably would just replace it, honestly.

Get. Convert to scrub plane. Success.
Just bought two of these and converted them into scrub planes. Did one with a radius of 5" and another (for heavier cuts) with a radius of 3". I opened the throats about 1/8" to handle large shavings using a die grinder and flat file. I sharpened the blades and let em rip. Both work amazing. Hardware is great in quality. Sole is flat enough for what I was using it for. Blades came sharpened but I edited their shape. Weight is good for scrubbing. I have big hands and the handles were just fine. Good stuff.

Will function as a plane but only after a LOT of work.
Firstly, the instructions tell you to make sure the sole is flat, I'm thinking "how bad could it be"? Well, the sole was not even close to being flat. It took me over 3 hours to get it flattened and useable. The shoe is also a casting and not smooth, in fact it was bumpy and oddly shaped. The mouth is misshapen and rough and not rectangle in shape. When blade is adjusted properly you will have a bigger opening on one side than the other. If you want to use it with a shooting board, forget about it, the sides are not even close to being 90 deg. In fact, from one side over the sole, it is almost 1/8" out of square. The blade had deep tooling marks on the beveled edge and was very rough on the back. Not sure about the hardness of the blade just yet because I haven't been able to use it yet other than testing. The adjusting mechanism is a joke, it can be adjusted to get the cut you need, but it is a real PITA to do. You have to loosen the shoe thumb screw and move the adjusting thumb wheels to where you think they need to be and then when you tighten the thumb screw the blade moves. So it takes several attempts to get it right. Overall, it will work OK with a good bit of work, but it's not a plane that I would want to use every day.

Amazingly good for the price
Works great, sole is flat (as per my straightedge), handles could be better. Pleasant surprise: reviews led me to expect an OK product, good for rough planing, but not up to fine work without significant filing. Perhaps I was lucky ;-) Adjustment with the double screws is easy and very stable. Blade came already well sharpened. Tightening is OK, but could be more user-friendly. My one complaint is that both the knob and the handle are undersized (and made of some synthetic material instead of wood, but that goes with the incredibly low price). I have smallish hands, but with the narrow profile of the handle, pushing the plane soon becomes uncomfortable -- I put a glove on my right hand to help distribute the pressure -- and with the small and somewhat low-lying knob, grasping it securely is uncomfortable. (I plan on replacing the knob.) Overall, a very high performance-to-price ratio and strongly recommended to any weekend woodworking warrior: it's not a Veritas, but then it's not $200+ either.

This product is precisely what it says it is .A plane
I nearly didnt buy this plane based on the reviews. If you have good woodworking experience and remember the old methods before power planers, this product is good quality for the price. The weight and sturdiness is good. The sole does not require sanding as suggested by a reviewer . The sole could be polished if you think it slides better but that would be because the blade is not set right. The adjustment is standard and all planes are tapped with a hammer for the finest adjustment. Factory blades are fine out the box but for a razor sharp edge you should invest in grit stones upto 20000 and know how to use them for blades chisels etc. This plane is very well priced and does precisely what it is designed to do in the hands of a woodworker. More expensive planes only include brass fittings and blade lateral angle adjustment lever. Further more you need many different planes for different jobs. This is a bench plane not a long sole jointer or a small block plane. Do not be put off by price if you know how to use it .It will last a lifetime.
