Chicago P.D.: Season 2

+++ Warning, this contains a minor spoiler from season one, but no major season two giveaways.++++ The second season of Chicago PD follows a very similar format and tone as the first season. It alternates between cases from the intelligence unit (which is the focus of the show) and the main beat cops Burgess and Roman (played by Brian Geraghty) Burgess' new partner since Atwater was promoted to the intelligence unit. It is mostly, but not exclusively, a case-of-the-week type procedural which also crosses over with the "parent" show Chicago Fire, and a couple of times through the season with episodes from Season 16 of Law and Order SVU, which is also a part of the Dick Wolff production machine. In fact, in the crossover later in the season, a case that continued one of the SVU storylines from a decade earlier was brought to a conclusion. The events of that crossover would have ramifications that lead into season three, as one of the characters is at a major crossroads as the season ends on a cliffhanger. The acting and writing on the show are very good. The writers do a great job redeeming the character of Hank Voight, while still leaving him with a very hard edge. Of course, the show has a very large ensemble cast, and while not every cast member gets an in-depth storyline or even character-centric episode, the writers do a good job balancing the cast and making all the characters interesting. While season one really focused on the character of Antonio, this season, the focus is on Erin. We learn a bit more about Lindsey's background and meet her mother, played by Markie Post, who as some will remember was one of the leads on the great 80s sitcoms, Night Court. This season also introduced the character of Will Halstead played by Nick Gehllfuss (who has a small recurring role on Shameless before this) who would go on to play the same character (although written differently) on Chicago Med which would premiere the next season as another Chicago-based spin-off. Interestingly, Brian Tee who would also be hired for Chicago Med played a completely different character in one episode this season, which made it a bit surprising that he managed to get cast as Ethan Choi since the shows are pretty good about continuity. For those who get the DVD set, the extras include behind the scenes featurettes for some, but not all of the episodes (similar to what are included in the Chicago Fire DVD sets for seasons 1-3 of that show) and then the episodes from Chicago Fire and Law and Order SVU that were a part of the crossovers so you can see the entire story even if you do not watch the other shows. Overall, I would say if you like the first season and are a fan of Chicago Fire, you will probably like this season of PD. On the other hand, if you did not like the first season of PD, and/or the weekly procedural drama format does not appeal to you, then it is not likely that this is going to change your mind.

I watched it from the middle of season 2. I instantly got hooked. So I kept watching. I downloaded the NBC app and started watching all of the episodes from the beginning of season 2 and got hooked. the first episode I watched live with episode 11. Since i watched the first episode that I watched I was in love with Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush's Character) I started becoming in love with the cast as they had so amazing acting skills. I followed the cast on social media. I love live tweeting with them. I even got my grandpa hooked on the show. Now we watch it together every week. This show has such great stories with such great writing. The end of season 2 with Sophia Bush. Oh my. She was freaking amazing. She excelled the whole storyline. Now in Season 3 it got so much better. There was so much more action and it was such better stories. My favorite episode is the Jay centric episode, I love how it portrayed him. It made me fall in love with Jesse Lee Soffer. Such a good show. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Law and Order! IT makes you fall in love with the characters and started to care if they come home or not.

This is such an engrossing show. Every episode is full of drama, good intelligence action and a backstory involving one of the main characters. Hank Voight is one marvellous character. As tough as nails with some questionable tactics he has a loyalty to his team that is tremendous to watch. We all know he'd take a bullet for any of them. Erin Lindsay played by Sophia Bush is complex and we learn more of her history during this series. Her struggles with her mom and the familial relationship with Voight add to the Intelligence Unit action. And you don't want to miss the season ending. Trudy Platt who mans the desk downstairs of the station plays a pivotal role in linking the upstairs Intelligence Unit and downstairs uniformed crew. She adds depth to the show due to the compassion she provides which can often be lacking in such shows. One aspect of this series I particularly love is how they do episodes combining other Dick Wolf shows, Chicago Fire (naturally) and Law and Order (SVU). The episodes involving the SVU crew is outstanding and watching the dynamics between Olivia Benson and Voight is worth the price alone. Two superb characters working side-by-side was fabulous. Can't wait for season 3.

I'm enjoying watching the show with no commercials. Arrived early.

Great series of all three that....

When I bought this I had just seen a few episodes on TV and liked the show. Can't get into too much about the show itself as there are many reviews on that. What I will say is that networks are all over the map these days, and streaming is great but also confusing at times. When I bought this I wanted to catch up and watch things in order. I couldn't find the entire season anywhere except on Prime, and they wanted extra to watch each episode, and I decided it was cheaper to just buy it outright. If you want to binge watch, you can set it to play all episodes, and the added bonus of a crossover episode with Chicago Fire was nice as well. Maybe that was in season one...or maybe both I don't remember at the moment. Picture and sound are great, even if only standard DVD. Not all streaming services or OTA carriers of ion are surround either, so to me the sound is an improvement.

I noticed some people have commented about how they never got the other part of the crossover episodes but I do have mine. I'm not sure why other people don't have it on theirs. I haven't watched all the DVDs yet but I watched a couple of them and they appear to work fine including the crossover episodes. It looks good. Glad I bought it as well as season 3. A lot of good episodes in season 2 especially 2.7 and the crossovers involved in it. I'll submit a review on season 3 after I watch them.

This box set was not compatible with my Irish dvd player. It was formatted for the US. I managed to play it on my laptop but obviously this is not as good or what I wanted. I love the show but it's getting progressively more far fetched!

I bought this as a package with season 1 and 3 which amazon Uk told me were bought together however, this is unable to be viewed in the U.K. And can only be watched in America and Canada. I am not happy with this as I paid £24 for something which is now no use to me!
