Thaïs

I read this book a long time ago, when I was in uni and loved it. I have the Romania translation and wanted to see how well does it sound in English. It's a lovely book.

A wonderful account, set around the 3rd century AD, of the struggles of the early Christians against the devil and the flesh. The abbot who it centres on proves to be overly ambitious in his determination to serve God.N.b. this edition is in the original French.

I read this book 10 years ago,,and I read it again just recently..I loved it first time,, and more so the second time. I don't wont to spoil anything in case you want to read it,, but definitely recommend it.
