Lonely Planet Japan (Travel Guide)

I've worked in Japan for a number of years and this book is well written and very descriptive of Japan. The detailed maps are fantastic and the information is very useful, even to someone who has been there over 25 times. My wife and I are planning another trip to Japan to areas we've never been and this book is one of the best travel books on Japan that I've read. I bought a second copy for my wife so that we can both read it at the same time.

Used this book on our recent trip to Japan in October. We were there for two weeks and planned our itinerary ahead of time using this book only. I must say I wouldn't travel anywhere without purchasing and researching these lonely planet books beforehand. The one thing I regret is forgetting this book at home on our trip! Luckily we had everything planned ahead of time, still would've been nice to refer to it from time to time. I will be buying lonely planet for our next adventures as well.

For someone who has never been to Japan or a country where the language and culture barrier is so large this book has caused me be less stressful about my trip to Japan. This is definitely a book that should be purchased before planning your itinerary because it contains useful tips and advice for things to do and places to see. It has a few outdated things like currency exchange rates and other small things but it's not a big deal. The only thing that would make this book a perfect 5 stars is if it had more detailed maps with smaller street names. Overall I would recommend lonely planet guides to family and friends.

Great reference book if you're planning to make a trip to Japan. Plenty of useful info around major cities. Some of the smaller towns might not be complete but offer insight if you want put it on your list of areas to check out. Contains fold out map for Tokyo. Gives guidance of what to do such as at a Onsen (hot spring bath houses.). Plenty of cities/towns listed to keep you occupied.

Ordered the new edition because I had misplaced my old copy, so I was quite familiar with Lonely Planet travel guides. The new edition is much better than the old one. My sole complaint is that the font is a bit small, making it nearly impossible to read without my reading glasses. Otherwise, this is the best travel guide available!

I bought this book 3 years ago and it's been my go-to guide for all things Japan! I've been there 4 times now and use this book for every step of my planning and travels.

This is an okay, decent, competent guide book. It doesn't miss much. It covers all the must-sees.That being said: We traveled with this book and the lesser-known "Japan by Rail." After a while we stopped looking at the Lonely Planet book, and finally left it behind because it wasn't worth carrying when Japan by Rail covered all the places and sights in better detail, with better organization, and the plus of detailed guidance to the train and bus systems that the Lonely Planet guide lacks.

Very detailed and insightful commentary on various attractions across Japan. This is my second Lonely Planet travel guide and I think they do a fantastic job of describing various facets of culture and cuisine. This guide has been instrumental in planning our trip to Japan!

J'ai réservé tous mes hébergements en choisissant dans ce guide, ravie! Il est très complet et très fluide de lecture. Par contre le Lonely Planet a tendance à ne pas trop se "mouiller" (ce qui fait aussi sa qualité..), ne pas hésiter à croiser avec des blogs de voyageurs et d'autres guides pour des avis plus tranchés si vous devez faire des choix de villes à visiter.

Molto valida soprattutto per la parte logistica e le recensioni di monumenti. La parte di locali tralasciata, ma questo uno lo mette in conto.Compendio per viaggiare in giappone.
