Does the job!
As fire season has become more problematic, I have obtained several Airthereal air purifiers for throughout the house. They have good features, performance, and appearance and can often be found at a good price. This one in particular does not have all of the features of some of them (no wifi, air quality sensor, UV, etc.), but in exchange it is inexpensive and more importantly, the replacement filters are very inexpensive. This air purifier can move a lot of air, but in night mode it is very quiet (audible, but totally tolerable). Since it doesn't have a lot of features, it is simple to use. I typically use night mode every night while sleeping. One downside is that the night mode light does stay on and can seem bright to those sensitive to that kind of thing, but i have it covered with a post-it note (and the button still works through the paper).During the day, I'll only run it if there is a specific need, and usually on a timer so I don't forget to turn it off.I like having more capable air purifiers for other parts of the house (for example the AGH550 with air quality sensor to respond to cooking and other stimuli), but this one is simple and perfect for bedrooms, plus the filters are way cheaper.

Quite, Clean Air all day!
I got this air purifier because I suffer from allergies. Especially at night or when i’m sleeping I get really stuffed up. I bought this unit about a month ago & for the cost comparison to other units, it’s exceptional. the design is sleek & doesn’t stand out in a room, it’s very quiet, and the filter is like one i’ve never seen.i move my unit from room to room depending where i need it. but the reel test was at night. It blows out super clean, fresh air! I haven’t woken up once feeling stuffed up. Also the clean air & the soft white noise it makes, i sleep thru out the night. before i would wake up 2/3 times.I even put it in the kitchen when i’m cooking & it helps to eliminate any lingering food smells. It’s the best!! I would definitely purchase another unit. other comparable units were about $300 and didn’t look great or only came in black.

Good filtering, but not of odors.
Below are my impressions and tips for use of the Airthereal APH230C, and formulas for how I calculated which purifier is sufficient for my needs. I did not receive any incentive or discount for purchasing this unit. I like to give detailed reviews because I have been helped by the reviews of many.My perception after 5 days: I breathe more easily and deeply, for sure. I do not think the filter does a good job on smells: the wool smell from some blankets was just as strong after several hours of filtering on high. The little bits of carbon which are supposed to absorb smells sit in little half-filled honeycombs behind the HEPA layer. I suspect the amount of carbon is simply insufficient. Higher end brands often tout the large amount (weight) of carbon that their filters contain; I now see why.My parameters/needs: My healthcare team told me to get a HEPA air purifier in case my chronically elevated mycoplasma pneumonia antibodies are due to environmental factors. I am sensitive to smells (for ex the smell of wool in summer). I need the unit to be as quiet as possible (electric white noise machines make me irritable; mechanical fan noise, less so). Finally, as a massage therapist, and given the aerosol spread issue with coronavirus, I have been researching air purifiers for my workplace. I purchased the Airthereal APH230C for home (no pets, no smoking). It is my first air purifier. I wanted something without UVC because I read it generates toxic ozone. I received it July 2, 2020.Sound: Per the manual, Sleep mode<24dB; Low<30dB; Middle<40dB; High <49dB. Sleep mode is quiet even by my standards, but of course it filters very slowly. The middle setting at 12 feet away is OK for me to concentrate near. On High it’s all a bit much, so I use that when leaving the room. How I calculated my purifier needs:From my reading about coronavirus and speaking to AustinAir customer service (they are much more expensive, and louder, but have a metal housing and longer lasting filters), one normally desires 5ACH (Air Changes per Hour). This means that all of the air in the room passes through the filter 5 times per hour (every 12 mins). For covid prevention, based on a blog post by an epidemiologist giving estimated numbers of particles inhaled during speech/sneezing/coughing per unit time, you’d want to reach at least <10 mins, i.e. > 6ACH, and ideally 5 mins. The CADR indicates how much air the purifier can filter per unit of time (at the highest fan setting, I assume, unless the manufacturer gives you the CADR for each fan setting, which would be nice). Its units are either CFM (cubic feet per minute) or CMH (cubic meters per hour). You can find unit converters online for ease. All this assumes that the CADR given is accurate (I don’t have any devices at home to measure this).Using CFM units:Max Square Ftage the purifier can handle = CFM * 60min/ Ceiling Height in ft / desired ACH.Rearranging the formula:Actual ACH the purifier will produce= CFM * 60min / Ceiling Height in ft / Sq ftage. The unit is rated at 60W. Per the U.S. Dept of Energy calculator, operating the unit 24/7on High in New York State would cost $89.35/year based on an average Utility Rate of $0.17/kWh.The housing smelled of plastic out of the box. Wiping the housing (not the filter!) down with a damp cloth (and letting it air dry thoroughly) decreased the smell substantially, but the unit smelled of plastic for several days when in use because you can’t get inside the back portion where the fan is. I highly suggest that the manufacturer consider wiping down the inside of the housing as much as possible before assembly makes it unreachable. After several days of constant use (in an adjoining room) the plastic smell is gone, but it was oppressive to me and depressing and I could have easily given up and returned the unit if email customer service had not responded within 24 hrs on a business day, suggesting that I run the unit for a week nonstop.I covered all indicator lights with one or two layers of white electrical tape to get rid of a blue halo on ceiling. I can still see which lights are on. The unit makes a little ding-dong noise when you turn it on/off or change the settings. The light indicators also shift. I’d prefer that future models make the least noise possible and the dings are eliminated. The indented hand grip in the back is comfortable. I find it easy to move the unit from room to room until I figure out what filter to get for the other, larger rooms. I do not have compromised strength or hand dexterity.I have not purchased replacement filters as yet, but all the complaints here about supply are dated to the start of the pandemic in the U.S. when many supply chains were disrupted.I am still researching purifiers at different price ranges; many are much more expensive at initial purchase, but not that much more expensive to maintain. For the rest of my apt and for the workplace, I will likely get a more expensive unit of a different brand with more CFM capacity and similar sound and energy use profile (<=50 dB, 60Watts approximately, called C****) , but for my bedroom, where I can close the door, this one seems adequate. I will update in a few months if that changes.

Works well
I purchased this air purifier over a year ago, and have had it running continually since then. I usually have it on the the #2 setting. The high setting is fairly loud, so I only use it when I want to push more air through. The night setting is very quiet, but I rarely use it, I just keep it at the medium setting.I have dogs and every few weeks I vacuum the filter. It really collects a lot of dirt and dog hair!I try to change the filter more often than every six months since it gets pretty dirty. One of the reasons I bought this is because the filters are not that expensive compared to some other brands. The room I have it in is fairly large, so I have it next to where I sit to watch TV.

Product quality, warranty and pricing sold me!
I am a thorough and thoughtful shopper, comparing features, design and pricing. I finally decided on this unit and am very glad I did because it appears to be a quality product. It is quiet and yet it moves a large volume of air. The HEPA filter is large and thick with several layers. It takes air in through the large front area and disperses clean air through the top of unit. The description on Amazon states it has 2 year warranty but the warranty inside the user manual states it is a 4 year warranty and if you register within 30 days they will include an extra year and that makes it a 5 year warranty. I really feel that this is the best deal so I am buying a second unit today. I am making this review on my own volition and have not or will not receive any compensation from this company.

Very loud Fan
This is the second time purchasing. The first one is really quiet and works perfectly but this one has a very loud fan. Returning and hoping to get another one that is quiet.
