HyperX Alloy Origins Core - Tenkeyless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Software Controlled Light & Macro Customization, Compact Form Factor, RGB LED Backlit, Tactile HyperX Aqua Switch,Black

I've had this keyboard for three years and I use it for everything. It is my daily driver for both work and recreation. I've had many keyboards from old IBM heavy clackers, to dome-switch Dells, to gamer-y RGB mechanicals (from another brand), to hand-lubed custom swappable keyswitch types, and this HyperX Alloy Origins Core is my overall favorite to date. It's very solid, reliable, has a consistent smooth and lightly tactile key action (I got the aqua switches) and pictures don't do it justice. It may look like just another black RGB keyboard but the feel, weight, minimalistic design, and lighting quality in-person all feel premium. There is a little rattle from the space bar stabilizers but that's nit-picking and can probably be solved with lube. The well-placed rubber feet and heavy weight keep it from sliding around. The braided USB cable is removable. The TKL is my favorite version of this keyboard not only because it strikes the right balance between size and the keys I most use, but also it's understated appearance with the TKL's black on black HyperX logo. With the bright, programmable RGB lighting it can do wild gamer style but can also pull off looking clean and professional. The keycaps that come with it are not PBT but they are high quality. They have a smooth texture and show fingerprints to some degree but they do not wear down. The font is clear and not obnoxiously gamer-y. Again it hits a balance between understated clean and gamer glitz. After years of constant use, the WASD and spacebar keys still look and feel as good as the rest of the keys without the uneven wear and glossiness that commonly develops with other keyboards. One of my favorite features is the look of the backlighting. Many premium mechanical keyboards do not have backlighting and ones that do often have unevenly lit keys or fonts that have hotspots that just look cheap to me. Not this keyboard; it has the most evenly lit key fonts I've seen. And this keyboard can go bright when you turn it up. The included RGB software is ok. I had no problems with it but understand others have. Good news is you can download up to three different custom lighting profiles into the keyboard itself, so you DO NOT have to have the software running to enjoy custom lighting, animations, or macros, if you are into that.

This is a really solid tenkeyless keyboard. The build quality feels premium and the aluminum frame gives it a sturdy, durable feel. The keys are responsive and satisfying to type on, whether for gaming or everyday use. The compact size also frees up a lot of desk space, which I really like. The RGB lighting is bright and customizable through software, and it looks clean without being distracting. This is my second HyperX alloy keyboard and would definitely recommend. The sound is nice, not too much as some other mechanical keyboards. USB-C cable connection is a nice upgrade from the previous HyperX keyboards. You won't be disappointed with this.

I bought this with the HyperX blue switches to replace a Das Keyboard Pro 4 with Cherry MX Blue switches for work (I am a programmer). I loved the Das, it's a solid workhorse and the clicky cherry blue switches are so satisfying, but it's huge and I wanted something smaller so that I could position my keyboard directly in front of me without pushing my mouse way off to the right. Feel - When I got this keyboard, I put it next to the Das to compare the HyperX blue switches to the Cherry MX blues. There is a slight, noticeable difference. I would say that the cherry blues are _slightly_ crisper, but the difference is negligible. The HyperX blues are still plenty clicky and satisfying. I got used to this keyboard very quickly. I probably wouldn't have noticed any difference if I didn't have them side-by-side. No complaints here, it's a joy to type on this keyboard. Noise - Yes it's loud, that comes with the territory. The volume is comparable to the Das... however... I read other reviews that complained about "pinging" and didn't know what they were talking about. This wasn't a problem with the Das even after years of use. However, in the past few days (after a month of using this keyboard) I noticed that some keys, particularly the Tab and Ctrl keys, make a "pinging" noise after being pressed. It's not as loud as the normal clicking noise of the keys and it depends how snappy and hard you tap the keys, but it's there. It doesn't really bother me but I could see how it might grate on some people's nerves. You could always just turn on some music. :) Design - I love the compact form. There is no wasted space around the keys to needlessly take desk space. The key layout is the same as what I'm used to minus the number pad, no funky layout to make it more compact or cram in extra keys. The spacing feels slightly different compared to the Das; I guess the keys are slightly closer together? Not a big deal, I got used to it in maybe a week or two. It lacks USB ports to plug in other devices, but this wasn't a big issue for me. Like any other mechanical keyboard it is a bit tall and I highly recommend getting a wrist rest like the Glorious Gaming wrist rest (don't forget to get a TKL size). Lighting and software - This was low on my priorities, but I have to say the RGB lighting is cool. This keyboard is VERY BRIGHT. It has 4 brightness levels other than off (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) but even on the lowest setting at 25% it is quite bright. However you can dim the brightness to whatever level you want with the software. The software, despite all the complaints in other reviews, seems fine to me. It gives you a lot of flexibility for layered colors and effects that are very cool. I have no problems with it other than I wish it allowed you to load the settings from your keyboard to tweak them after you save them to the keyboard, but it does look like it has profiles that you can save and load in the software. Summary - This is a fantastic TKL layout mechanical keyboard that I would recommend for work or games. The blue switches are comparable to Cherry MX blues. However, if you can't stand the "pinging" noise on some keys then you may want something higher quality.

The first thing I noticed when I pulled the Hyperx Alloy Core Origins out of the box was the weight. The thing was HEFTY. This just screams quality to me. Usually keyboard around this price range are not made out of metal and if they are it's only on top while the bottom of the board is plastic. This is not the case with this one. The whole keyboard is metal. The frame is very sturdy and the hyperx aqua switches are pretty good. Coming from cherry mx reds, using these aqua switches was a great improvement from my older corsair board. The keycaps that come applied on the board are okay in quality, but there are some better one's out there as far as durability is concerned, but at this price point I am not going to complain. Just buy yourself a good set of pbt keycaps for around 15 dollars. Hyperx sells those as well which is what I replaced the old caps with. The lighting and RGB is extremely bright and has 5 brightness options: Off and 4 levels increasing in intensity. This board outshines by a huge margin my older Corsair k70 lux. I would have given this hyperx and this keyboard a 4.9 out of 5 stars because although I am in love with the board the software is close to being complete trash. I read other reviews prior to purchasing that the software (Ngenuity) was bad, but reviewers tend to exaggerate some things. Not with this though. The software always crashes whenever I attempt to customize the colors and profiles of my board. It occurs randomly every few minutes or so and if it does it erases and undo's all of the customization that you have input into the app. Not only that but you would have to keep the program running to have it save the profiles. Like I said this would have been given a 4.9, but since that's not an option I think giving it a 4 would be lying to the customer who wants to buy this next. Excellent product!

Update: I am changing this review after having had HyperX replace the keyboard and a lot of heavy use with no further issues. It very much seems that they learned their lesson from this, and the software is now available for install outside the Microsoft ecosystem, which was far and away my biggest gripe. It also now works flawlessly. I have to hand it to HyperX, they learned their lesson and pushed hard to fix it. I should not have left my review at 1-star for such a long time. This now gets a solid 4-stars from me. "Take a step away from membrane keyboards!" they said. "You'll enjoy it!" they said. I did. Until I didn't. See, for the most part, I love it; mine's got the HyperX Red switches, and they feel really nice, other than I would've liked a little less resistance on the keypress for typing and stuff. The RGB is pretty, the keys are stabilized well, overall the keyboard made the first two weeks very pleasant. And then the problems began. At first it was minor, one press in ten, the 'c' key wouldn't actually register. Then one time in 5, then one in 2, and then it would take several keypresses to actually get it to register. "Surely the switch has failed." I thought. So, I rang up HyperX support, and they had me troubleshoot the issue, and lo and behold, it's a simple fix, a driver update via their NGENUITY software. Great, easy enough, except many people start getting a sinking feeling when you talk about peripheral hardware and driver failure in the same sentence. Fast forward a month or so, and all of the sudden, I press the 'm' key, only to have nothing happen. I press it again; it works. A fluke? No, now it only gets one in ten presses, if that. Alright, I'll just update the drivers again right? WRONG. Because now NGENUITY can't see the keyboard. Restart? Replug? Nothing works. Alright then, uninstall NGENUITY and everything will work great, surely? As it turns out, this is just one layer of the failure onion that HyperX, a generally reputable division of Kingston, has created. So let's approach this layer by layer. First off, we have keys randomly failing due to driver issues. This begs the question of what the he** the drivers are doing that individual keys can fail and leave all other functionality unaffected. What is going on under the hood that permits this. Then we have the NGENUITY software, which at first glance, isn't all that bad. It's at second and third glance that it gets really bad. Now we have another key failure, but now NGENUITY can't tell the keyboard is there. The logical option is to reinstall, but HyperX decided, in their infinite wisdom, "Hey, let's make this install exclusively through the Microsoft Store. That definitely won't make the software a complete pain to troubleshoot.". Well, funny story, you can uninstall it, but thanks to Microsoft's garbage "store" software, it, in my case at least, cannot be reinstalled. It just throws error 0x80073D05 ad infinitum. Normally, if you uninstalled something and then couldn't reinstall it, you'd just purge every mention of it in your filesystem right? Well in this case, you can't. Store apps are kept in a hidden file that it appears even administrator accounts can no longer grant themselves access to, so as much as I'd like to simply purge everything associated with this software and have another go, I can't. Even if NGENUITY worked, I wouldn't have a way to install it. So now I have a keyboard that has, in my definition, failed. Keypresses go in, letters come out. If letters don't come out, the keyboard has failed. Somehow, HyperX has made great hardware, then kneecapped it with awful software that installs through a worse platform. I'd love this keyboard, but it doesn't work, and I can't even blame the keyboard for it. Hardware failures I can understand, a certain number of units are going to be DOA, that's life, but software rendering hardware unusable? That's just sheer incompetence, nothing less, especially when you're pushing unstable versions of software to customers who already have the hardware, which then renders it unusable. This has really degraded my confidence in HyperX as a whole, and just as Razer's DeathAdder and Logitech's G502 left a bad taste in my mouth over their hardware (thus, leading to me looking elsewhere for a new keyboard), HyperX has demonstrated an egregious level of incompetence I've never encountered.

My first mechanical keyboard was a fantastic hit (for me). And it took me about 3 years to kill it. You know you've spilled quite a bit into it when swapping out the keys doesn't fix issues. So, once I determined that there was just no saving the original, I hopped on Amazon to see if it was too late to get a next-day replacement. Most of the mechanicals I saw were already past the 1-day threshold and then I saw this one. First, it's tenkeyless - and even though I don't ever find myself using that keypad, it's still tough to imagine giving one up until you've tried. But I loved the footprint, there was a refurbed model at a great discount and I squeaked in to next-day delivery with like 26 minutes to spare. Final verdict: I don't miss the ten-key pad at all... in fact I LOVE the tiny desk footprint. On top of that, I got the red (linear) keys and the typing action is very solid. The keyboard uses aircraft-grade aluminum on both top and bottom, so it's got incredible weight and doesn't slide all over my desk when I'm deep into some intense FPS'ing. And here's the cherry on top: the keys sit well above the keyboard's top... so, if you drop some crumbs or similar, a 3 second burst of canned air has it looking brand new again. Coffee or soda is probably going to be an issue but any fluid is going to have no problem draining immediately off this keyboard, whereas many of the mechanicals I've seen have switches inset into channels that block fluid runoff, so it's at least a potential help. If you're looking for a rock-solid mechanical with excellent key-press action, and don't need the keypad, I think this is a fantastic choice. I work and play on this keyboard and have no complaints about how well it performs. FWIW, I'm not using the software that adds support for more lighting schemes and macros, but I hear it's sort of a mixed bag with folks who do.

This is my first mechanical keyboard and I now understand why they are preferred over membrane variants. I went with the aqua keys and they are wonderful for both typing and gaming. I've had the keyboard for about two weeks now and it's really great. I've heard a lot of complaints about the software, but I've had no problems whatsoever with using it. It's intuitive and functional enough that I set up my keyboard in just a few minutes and haven't had to use the program again. The backlighting works well and is quite vibrant. The keys feel wonderful and responsive. I was initially worried about tactile keys being annoying for gaming, but after using them I couldn't recommend them more. Some people mentioned the cheap keycaps, but I haven't had any issues personally with them. My only complaint is that if you're a heavy handed typist like myself, there is a faint metallic ring when hitting the keys. It isn't loud and doesn't bother me much, but I'd be happier if it wasn't there at all. It's a minor gripe overall and isn't worth deducting a star for. Most of the time I'm typing with headphones on and can't hear it at all, so it hasn't bothered me much. If you like to type in a quiet environment though, it might annoy you. Edit: 8 Month update: Unfortunately, the W key on my keyboard stopped working yesterday. Fortunately, the customer service is so excellent that they shipped me a replacement and I'm typing on it today. It's hard to complain about a one day turnaround. Fantastic.

So I bought what I assume is a returned item from Amazon WH. Cost me $57 instead of the $79 for the it is currently showing for. The keyboard looks new. Not a single scratch. It has heft and it is constructed entirely of this smooth aluminum metal. Very rigid and nice construction. Lighting is very bright but you can adjust it. Brightest keyboard I have ever owned and I have own at least one of all major brands. The red keys feel very good. Cherry reds give less resistance from my experience though. At 57 dollars this keyboard is a steal. The issue I ran into with the keyboard and why i assume the keyboard was return is with the software update. So the keyboard is plug and play. But to access hyper x’s software to adjust lighting and create macros you need to update the software for the keyboard. This can be done through hyper x’s app made for its keyboards and mice. However, I was not able to download the software update which essentially made customizing the keyboard impossible. Something was glitching with their app. Tried resetting keyboard among other things without success. Finally i found the stand a lone driver for the keyboard and it allowed me to update the software which in turn allowed me to customize the keyboard. Keyboard works as advertised now and for $57 I’m very satisfied with the purchase.

There is a reason this is so highly rated among YouTubers and other reviewers and you will soon realise that when you use it. The keyboard is much heavier than you think. Superb build quality and for the price is a steal. I bought the Aqua switches and love the feel of them. It is not the quietest keyboard and that isn't a bad thing. What I mean is that if you have been using your office keyboard which will have come with your PC, they are quiet but they are also rubbish which is why they cost £10 and this costs more. I hate using my office keyboard now after buying this and I am giving a lot of thought to getting a mechanical keyboard for the office now. The software you download from HyperX's website makes configuring the keyboard colour pattern easy. It comes with a nice thick braided detachable USB C to USB A cable. My only gripe, well 2 of them actually, is that it comes with ABS keycaps which are fingerprint magnets. I purchased the HyperX Pudding caps which are made of PBT and they don't display the fingerprints now. My 2nd gripe is that it is in an ANSI layout meaning the keys are slightly different to the UK ISO layout. Not an issue if you know your keys but just thought I would point that out. You can replace the keycaps with an ISO layout but I haven't done that yet. Overall cannot rate this keyboard highly enough and I don't think you would be disappointed in your purchase.
