Good option between fish glue and hot hide glue.

I'm new to using this glue; I usually use hide glue made from flakes. This is almost the same, and a good deal more convenient. It has about the same open time.

I needed hide glue for a few guitar projects, but didn’t want to be bothered with weight and mixing the pellets. This stuff is basically the same, but premixed. That said you do need to bring it up to temp before use 130- 140F. It also has a limited shelf life of about a 20 months. All that is a fair trade off for the ease of use, glue quality. Dry time and functionality is on par with regular hide glue.

Ive been building and repairing guitars for longer than ill admit to. This is hands down the best there is. Very smooth, consistant, and easy to work with. No surprises. With hide glue, the viscosity and workable time are dependent on temperature. Without actually timing it, i felt like I had more time than other glue's I've used in the past. There are a lot of other hide glue's out there, Old Brown is better.

The Old Brown glue works. Reassembled a Danish modern rosewood chair flawlessly with heated (~140 F) glue. Considering that there were twelve, joints that, by their nature, have to be assembled simultaneously and swiftly clamped, the working time was adequate. Cleanup with water was effortless perhaps because the finished surfaces had been lightly waxed. The results are very good. A feature of Old Brown glue is that the expiration date is stamped on the container in the gap left when the label was wrapped around the container. This user missed it which is why he had to edit this review. The big advantage to a soluble glue (like hide glue or Old Brown glue) is that it seems like no glued joint lasts forever -- not the robust Titebond, white glue, epoxy (a fools errand, indeed) and the whole spectrum of gorilla products. When it comes time to open the item up and re-glue it you'll benefit most from a soluble hide glue or Old Brown. A syringe and alcohol (first check if the finish will tolerate your alcohol and stay away from "rubbing alcohol" which may contain oils) or water applied carefully to the joint will eventually weaken the hide glue and ultimately (could take days of regular reapplication) free the joint. [A dead blow mallet and a light touch is handy when opening joints.] The alternative is hours picking out dowels or, heaven forbid, making a fresh double tenon. Even though Old Brown works as it should and is undeniably handy., this user is likely to go back to cooking hide glue so it's "fresh" at each use -- no use going through the sheer terror of a complex glue up & clamping only to discover that the packaged glue had expired...

Gerstner sells their own hide glue, but it's about three times the price of the smaller Old Brown Glue bottle. I figured the smaller bottle would do what I needed, and it did, though barely. This glue does require heating or it's almost too thick to squeeze out of the bottle. I warmed a couple cups of water and put in the whole bottle, which worked OK, though I think next time I'd empty the bottle into an open-top container and warm that to make it easier to quickly dip a brush and spread the glue before it starts to cool. (I've read since that baby-bottle warmers work well for the purpose.) Love the fact that you can reposition the glue with a bit of heat and moisture. I used a damp rag and small clothes iron to make a couple adjustments to my work.

Flooring entire house with old brown glue. It’s a bit easier to use than regular hide glue, comes with the nozzles to make glueing joints easy, and is completely non toxic to my knowledge. In a world with so many foods and materials that cause cancer, it’s nice to know the floors you walk on are all natural. I’ll be sealing the unfinished oak with tung oil, the same oil that the Chinese used to seal wood on their ships for centuries. The customer service is top notch, and I like to support a small family business that really cares about their clients.

Ready made hide glue from a well known name. Best stored in the fridge then put irequired amount nto a suitable container to be healed in a bath of just boiled water to heat through. If you require a glue that can be reversed then you can't beat this.

Ideal for repairs to old furniture. Currently working on early 18th chairs and this grips strongly as described. Just need to heat it in a mug of hot water (I replaced the water with more hot after 10mins or so). So far holding up really well

Good product, when container warmed in hot water. Matches well with old glue.

Next to worthless in cold climates, the second it touches a workpiece it goes colder than a witches tit. I'm sure it's great in warm climates but with no means to warm up my workpiece it is unusable.
