RMG/EMTEC Studio Mastering Tape 900 Series/ 1/4'x2500' 10.5'

It is sometimes hard looking for new reel to reel tape trust me I know. I was looking for tape for my beautiful Technics RS-1500 and was out of luck. Then I found these. The reels the tapes come on are nice solid aluminum with a brushed look the way it should be. And the way the reels are connected? They are not glued or held together by plastic or welding, they are screwed together with stainless steel screws. Now that is quality and I haven't even gotten to the tape. The tape is professional quality high-density chrome. You remember on your old cassettes, if you ever had them, that if the decibels were to high the tape couldn't take it and you would hear a hissing sound? We all know this peak point is raised by tape quality and thickness. Of course you can alter the amount of input into your tape deck and eliminate any chance of feedback from the tape itself. But we have all had that time when songs or recordings change and they are way off the decibel chart. When that happens you know you have to restart that song or you will get some lovely static mixed into your recording. When I used this tape I recorded a few of my favorite songs onto it at 15" per second. At the first song I altered the decibel level until it is to my liking and went for it. But the next song was much louder and the needles in the VU meter hit the end of the red zone. Thinking this was horrible I rewound the tape and pressed play. To my amazement the recording was perfect. All of those high and low notes were spot on and it the parts where the VU meter maxed out I couldn't hear any difference. This tape is some of the best you can find on the modern market and I wouldn't suggest anything else unless someone you know tried it first. Coming from experience no matter what speed you record at be it 3.75" 7.5" or even 15" per second this tape will sound amazing and is fit for master recordings. On a sub note you know CD's and mp3 are digital audio made up of dots and dashes of sound which make a bumpy sine wave. Try putting you favorite songs from CD to tape to make it analog and I guarantee it will sound smoother. I hope this review helped anyone looking for good tape.

I have 14 reels of this tape I've used to record albums at high speed with for those times I want to sit down, turn on my Revox and actually LISTEN to music (versus background music while engaged in other primary activities). Several of my older tapes were turning sticky and would gum up my recording and playback heads so those I got rid of instead of going through the hassle of trying to dry them. The tape is quality material, the reel itself is solidly made, and the sound is superb. I couldn't be happier. Glad I looked on Amazon to see if they had 10.5 inch reel tape. It's pricey but reel-to-reel sound is on the high end and makes it worth it!

This was the second tape I purchased from The Recording Store. Excellent tape but, unlike the first one, this one was shipped on a plastic reel. However, Tom from The Recording Store apparently was unaware that RMG has mistakenly shipped some of these tapes on a plastic, instead of metal reels. He assured me that The Recording Store always ships their tape on metal reel and agreed to send a metal reel to replace the plastic. If that happens, then I will increase this rating to 5 stars. For now, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt and make it a "4".

I am writing this review, but can not review the sound quality of the tape at this time. I will update this in the future. I will focus instead upon the build quality of the reels.The reels are truly beautiful. They are perfectly true and solidly built! Materials are top notch. No expense was spared in materials or manufacturing.

If you need a 10.5" reel of audio tape this is it. Not just because you're likely to have a hard time finding newly manufactured tape, but because it's great tape. It has good saturation characteristics allowing reasonable overdriving without gross distortion. It's new so there's no "sticky shed" problem as well as appearing not to have much, if any, back-coating (which after years of storage equals trouble). Finally, and most importantly sonically, is the highs are clear and present and the noise floor is low. Thank goodness this is still made and is under the PYRAL label presently.

It works as I expected. Good quality material.

Tape arrived in excellent condition. Fantastic sound at 15 ips and 7.5. I will be ordering more for sure.
