Great Product!
Highly recommended. Excellent quality.. Little heavy though. The plastic ones are lighter. I travel extensively in the US and overseas. I normally and drink bottled water but when not available I don't worry about tap water. My kids have been to Costa Rica and China (one year) including back country trips with the plastic versions and avoided getting sick. I pack in my canoe for lake and stream water filtering.Spoke with customer support and they were really helpful.I only wish it would remove fluoride...

Careful when filling from non-tap sources
This seems like a very easy and quick way to cure your water, however my concern is filling up the bottle. If filling from a creek/river or other non-tap source, water may get on the outside of the canteen, potentially infecting whatever may come into contact with it, especially absorbent material such as your clothes or even hands. I haven't used this in virus suspected waters yet, but if I do I would likely filter the water though my Katadyn pump and then into the Grayl just to make sure no water splashes about the outside and inadvertently contaminates me. You definitely would not want to stick your hand into the creek with the bottle to fill it up and then press down on the top with your wet hand and wipe the bottle dry with your sweat rag.

This is a very nice water purifier
This is a very nice water purifier. The only down side is that it can't filter salt water but it doesn't really matter to me because I would drink salt water anyway. Overall this a very durable filter and purifier and I would definitely recommend it to anyone!!!!

Solid overall...
Solid, but the fit at the initial mating of the filtering sleeve and the outer sleeve was not well sealed, so if you push too aggressively the water to be filtered in the outer sleeve will slip by the seal and leak...However by making sure the initial water level is 1/8th to 1/4 inch below the line on the inner sleeve I'm able to get a solid seal and the filter otherwise works as expected. They claim a 30 second push for the travel filter, I have found it to be more like 45 to 60. Again not a huge deal, and the result is well filtered and tasty water regardless of the source I've pulled from so far...(mainly taps, haven't taken it to the field yet)

A great backup after the plastic gets empty
A great backup after the plastic gets empty. Simple, bullet proof, and an essential. Only potential issue is its weight, the stainless version, so maybe I purchase an outer made of polypropylene but I'll trade a little weight for durability and reliability any day.

Best travel filter, finally a plastic free option!
LOVE this filter. I used it in Brazil where the water can be somewhat sketchy. I highly recommend it. Filtering takes less than a minute and the water tastes clean and I can rest easy knowing that any chemicals or diseases in the water have been filtered out. I used the orange filter while in brazil but am also going to purchase the green filter ("trail") for traveling around the US since it can filter out heavy metals and chemicals that contaminate water supplies. I'm so excited that someone finally made a stainless steel filtering bottle!

Know what is does and does not do!!!!
I have owned this filter for over a year now and cannot be happier. I have used it on week long camping trips to the heart of the Adirondacks, simple day hikes, at my office in NYC, and on international travel to India. My happiness stems from the fact I did my research before purchasing the product and had a very clear understanding of what it is and what it is not. So lets take a look at some of those factors:What it's not:1) GROUP FILTER! A camp filter for multiple people it is not. When I take a camping trip that I know I will need to filter water for a larger group I opt for another filter. I think you would get a bit tired filtering water for a large group using this filter. The output is simply not enough to handle a large group. This is meant for an individual or two people at the most. As I do a fair amount of solo camping/hiking that works for me.2) Lite! If your always worried about the amount weight you carry in your pack, then this is not your model. Please notice that I said MODEL, Grayl has an ultralite version that is made of plastic vs stainless steel. That model drastically cuts down on the weight. No matter how you look at it, the Legend is heavy, but it is also bullet proof. I do a lot of international travel and wanted a filter that could take the abuse of modern airline travel. I would rather lug around the xtra weight knowing the product is not going to chip or crack. But that is me, I am also 235 lbs so carrying the extra weight does not bother me.3) EFFORTLESS! It is by no means an effortless filtration. Guess what folks, you need to press down hard (well not to hard) for filtration to be completed. Although the grayl follows the mechanics of a French press coffee maker, you will need a bit more effort than that. As the filter gets older, you will have to press even harder. The plus side of all this effort is a filter that takes care of bacteria, viruses, particle and metals. If you want effortless go with a UV filter, but you are not getting the same degree of filtration. While UV removes viruses and bacteria it does nothing for removing metals, particles or removing the bad taste from the water (mmmm the taste of warm pond water). What it is:1) FAST! When I am on the trail and see a body of water it takes me exactly 1 minute to start enjoying clean filtered water. In the meantime, my fellow hikers are still working on attaching the hoses to their filters. It seems silly but when I am hiking in 90 degree weather I want my water ASAP! I carry the Legend on the outside of my pack so I have immediate access, and can start getting hydrated quickly!2)BULLETPROOF! The Grayl's beauty is it's simplicity. With only 3 main components , I don't have to worry about pieces breaking. Believe me I have seen a fair amount of pump style filters go KAPOOT in the field because some small plastic pin broke. I use to use the aquastar UV filter, but you had to be sooooooo careful as to not break the bulb in the field. Give me the durability and reliability of stainless steel any day.3) ADAPTABLE! Until someone hires me full time to do product reviews in the woods, I still have an office job. The form factor of this filter allows me to use it in the woods AND the boardroom. It looks sharp and fits nicely in my office bag. In the airport or hotel I can easily filter my drinking water on the go, try that with some of the competitive filters. I can also change the type of filter based on where I am going to be traveling. For a hotel room in Huntsville Alabama, I go with the tap filter.....off to India I slip on the heavy duty filter.4) Double Duty! I like any piece of equipment that does multiple things. When I go hiking this replaces not only my old fashion pump filter, but it also replaces one of my water bottles as well. I still travel with a 32 ounce Nalgene, but have replaced my second Nalgene bottle with the Grayl.5) Last but not least the folks at Grayl are amazing. From answering questions or providing support, they truly went out of their way to help me and make sure I was happy. So I hope this review helps people make a decision, but again and very happy with my Grayl.

Five Stars
A great water filter for traveling. It even went through airline security packed in my suitcase without question.
