Beautiful and informative
This is a museum book about a particular (very large) exhibit. Many many beautiful photos, interspersed with essays about various aspects of how Oribe's style influenced arts in Japan. The essays are written by different people, and they overlap a bit in content. This is not entirely a bad thing, because for a layperson the scholarly language used and the history they assume you know makes the essays hard to understand at first. By the end you'll have learned a lot, though, if you didn't know these things before. This is a relatively new book, so the scholarship includes recent archeological findings. You often have to flip back and forth between the essays and the various photos they refer to in the book, but that is unavoidable in a book with this many pictures. I did sometimes wish there were more detailed photos of various parts of certain pieces, since specific details are mentioned in the essays. But overall beautiful, and a treasure trove of information.

I was very pleased with this book
My wife and I lived in Japan near two of Japan's 'Old Kilns' in Tokoname and Seto. I was very pleased with this book.
