No I don’t believe you can remove the grill to clean it

Does it move a lot of air?

I have this in my bedroom window and have it running 24 hours a day when I don't want to use the central air. It can cool the bedroom down rather quickly and keeps it cool overnight. Reversible to blow out hot air during the day.

Does this work if mounted vertically? Anyone done it and have pics/experience? Don't just regurgitate what the site already says please.

Yes. I have windows that slide from right to left and it works quite well. Actually I use them in two windows, one to bring in the night air, and one to expel the hot air.

Will this fan work with windows that slide horizontally?

I'm sure it can. Don't listen to the other answers. In the winter time I would take it out of the window and stand it vertical for a bedroom fan.
